- John 12:43
For they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.
Breakdown
This passage is meant to show us how much sinful pride we truly have deep inside of us. To admire the glory of man more than the glory of God is dangerous. Seeking to be held in high esteem by man will soon compromise the faith. Fear of being hated or disowned will have you dismantle your faith before man. Fear of the Lord and how he viewed you wasn't enough to refrain you from seeking the approval of the world. Man will exalt you to the point of misconception. Instant gratification will have us forsake christ for a moment in time to miss an out on eternal glory.
Today's devotional
We should understand by now the social risk we willingly chose to serve Christ no matter what the circumstances may be. Is it more important to be glorified by man or to seek the glory of your lord and savior-the same one who gave his life as a sacrifice for your sins? Will do more for recognition from the world, which is guaranteed to betray us at some point. The world has yet to make any sacrifice for us that can even come close to what Christ has done for us, yet we still feel he needs to compete for our love. This shows us how disgusting we are as humanity. We treat the very one who created us as a show pony. When it's convenient, we claim him and show him off when it's not; we what nothing to do with him. Instead of giving christ our all in, he is more than deserving of. This passage shows us our pride and selfishness in a light most try to avoid. The Bible clarifies that if we deny Christ before man, he will deny us before the father.
But whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.
