I have yet to hear a version of this song that doesnt slap, I want to keep it that way...Ciara kept up that tradition.
Ciara is having such an amazing year. I'm happy she got to cover such an amazing song, showing off her versatility in her artistry and the tones of her voice. CiCi is truly that triple threat. The slayage here >>>>>>

I absolutely love this cover. He lower register is so seductive and sultry. I love the dark quality and intensity of this video. She will always be my queen
+Tomisin Olagunju "so seductive and sultry" my thoughts exactly!

She took a song that was dark and made it even darker this version is haunting

Perfectly said yo, I didn't even watch the movie yet 😅😅 I just pulled out sicario and that was the first commercial that played. The song caught my attention quickly. I was hoping it wasn't Ariana grande 😅😅

+Jacob Evans what?
+Noah Lamar This is a cover song from the Rolling Stones. Big Vietnam Era song. I mean this is good and everything but if you really want to hear an amazing version of this try looking up the original.
+Jacob Evans and what makes you think I never heard the original?
WOW…. Ciara take a bow, this is AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL
Kudos to all involved , the production is incredible and she really took a classic song and made it her own . Amazing cover for real
When I listen to this song, I can't help picturing in my mind a story about a pure soul on the brink of siding the dark side because it got tired of being constantly trampled by others.
EXACTLY!! So spot on!!!
She. Did. This. Song. JUSTICE.
Ciara. You are phenomenal.
HANDS DOWN!!!
+Ain't No Sunshine the rolling stones version is still really good, she just added a different vibe to it. she did a good job with it though.
+the gamer dude
Well of course it is. love the group. deeply love the song.
+Ain't No Sunshine (claps) amen!!!
Nobody can do this song justice. Rolling stones couldn't even do it justice for its meaning to so many but they are tied to it because they wrote it.
I am a classic rock fan, including the Rolling Stones... In my opinion, this cover is a beautiful version of theirs. It's so different, powerful, and infused with so much talent. Way to go, Ciara! This ROCKS! 🎸🎼🎤
yes!
yea to me she did justice to original song
+Ali Saad hater
+Ali Saad your dump just shut up your irrelevant You Mad you trash and ciara is Way more stop being a hater lol
Its a great cover; the slower tempo of the song still conveys the sense of loss and desolation of the original.
If I were asked to describe this song in one word: Haunting.
Bloody brilliant take on a classic! Love it.
The original is more upbeat

Wooow, I'm absolutly blown away by this! I LOVE the Rolling Stones original and never expected this cover to be that good. The way Ciara turned the song into her own style to make it sound modern and totally different, but still dark, haunting and beautiful as the original, and (unlike most covers) AUTHENTIC.
Rolling Rock get blown brotha
Hm, interesting. I listen to the original a lot too and I actually didn't like the cover at all. Just my personal taste probably but i feel like this cover lost all that energy the original had
Her humming at the beggining is all i need.
Agree
That’s exactly what catched my attention…. My granda, may she rest in peace, used to hum when she was in her bed, not able to move… and then I started to do the same whenever I felt sad… God I miss her!!!
@@alexishernandez2419May she Rest in Peace 🤍
Ciara's voice has mad range.... wow! She is so underrated
Not at all underrated. People know her name.
Yeah maybe but she need to work on High notes when see trys to Sing very High the Voice is Almost gone...
Why the most angelic voices are usually the best for expressing our darkness emotions ?
Because we live in a fantasy land of happy, which are lies!
This is really great. I love covers that somehow transform the original instead of trying to replicate it, and that's exactly what this is.
+Kevin O'Connell Im by no means a Ciara fan but its nice to see someone on youtube who isn't so condescending and appreciates originality. I like the original as well but some people cant see creativity when its right in front of them. This is definitely a good cover.
This is indeed one epic cover. Gave me goosebumps from the moment it started playing at the end of the movie " The Last Witch Hunter "
First thing I did was look it up, and best part is not being disappointed one single bit. People bitching about it have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. It's more about boosting own ego's and being stubborn instead of realistic and appreciative of art. This for me, is art.
+Athena A. that the same thing i had done. its truly the phenomenal cover. It has much pain and anger then original song.
+Charzey um... anyone? no... ciara is awesome in this song. every word has power behind it. she has a unique voice. so no, not anyone could've done this cover.
Charzey
Ciara has a unique voice that stands out in this song.
I don't understand that argument. Yes, someone else could sing it, and it would probably be good too. Your point? How could that possibly be a critique?
This is sick, like I love this rolling Stones song and this version is just so dark I like it
+Giovana Duarte riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight?!!!! omg. yes!
+Giovana Duarte Same here, I love it when you blend music together you wouldn't think could match up...but then BAM! Eargasm Repeat obsession
+pcarebear1 Exactly when you blend styles like that it can be a disaster or itcan turn out like this song a beautiful eargasm!!
Great comment! I totally agree with you too, Giovana!
It's incredible how much this woman has evolved as an artist since her first album. Hands down
If covers are your thing, then ig this is an improvement
I'm a fan of classic rock and tbh she nailed this. The original is good and all but I always felt it was to upbeat for the lyrics. This version matches the context!
Agreed
Believe it or not there are many songs that had their instrument arrangements tempo and chords changed to make them "more commercially viable" per label oversight and wants. Another song that was meant to be much darker than it actually is, is Tom Sawyer by Rush. if you can find a dark metal cover with a EDM twist (one used to be on RUclips till it got pulled by copyright/trademark issues by the label not the artists themselves) you understand a bit and start seeing how many other past songs were "tampered" with by record exec's.
I can't stop playing this song I love how she slowed down the music you can really see the darkness truly in this song good work ciara keep up the good work 😊😊😊
This is a COVER of the ORIGINAL by the ROLLING STONES
+Exile On Sgt. Pepper Street i know i just loved how she slowed
darkness? stop with bullshits dudette, this is pure music majesty, nothing to do with crap darkness ;)
+barbagiggia lol well i just feel like they she put as like brings a more dark feel to lol
+barbagiggia this song is based of the darkness of war
I imagine this song playing as a villain's tragic backstory is being remembered. As she reminisces on what brought her here, she destroys everything in her path, smiling wickedly as she vanquishes the hero.
That imagery is perfection 🖤✨
this is so freaking accurate
I saw an amazing edit of a villain with this song and it was bomb . I mean it was so good on her , the song perfectly fits villains as we see their life . It was an edit of azula from avatar.
It was used on Hella's edit but It's titled My heart is black.
Hela , MCU
she has done this song justice. unlike a few other covers out that havent put the emotion into the song.
I do like Vanessa Carlton's version :)

Sometimes the villains were once heroes too. It just so happened that nobody saved them when they needed to be saved so they became the monsters we all taught them to be.

I LOVE this! I don't on the norm listen to mainstream singers, so when I clicked on this out of curiosity, I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY. Powerful, haunting and vulnerable all at once. This is STUNNING. I am musically oriented to a large degree and this gave me chills, goosebumps and all that good stuff after the fourth listen. Also an artist and I got about twenty art piece ideas one after the other. Putting this on repeat! Thank you Ciara!
As a huge fan of The Rolling Stones, I have to say this was well done. It respects the original while giving it its own unique twist.

@@tamasvarga315 I love the original song and I really like this version . What about you?
mistress of all evil i like the original a bit more but i like this version too
You think they'd let her? This is just "movie soundtrack" music. It's not the sort of thing that has any value in terms of market data, and the only reason it exists is because while it's not very marketable by itself, it's enhancing the marketability of another, even MORE lucrative project, namely the movie it's a part of. If people didn't associate "Dark Fantasy" movies with violins, sweeping orchestral scores and epic, passionate vocals, you can bet this would just be another hip-hop song because that's what they would have told her to make. Besides, this sort of Evanescence-like 'Gothic Rock' is not only a trend that has passed, but there is absolutely no way anyone would support an African-American artist trying to do this sort of music. _"Black people don't like this kind of music, and no one wants to listen to a Black person except other Black people. We'll be losing money by letting this happen so maybe you should just twerk somewhere instead,"_ is what they'd say.
It's the reason why all pop music sounds the same. It's the reason why all the Black musicians are stuck in this rut of hip hop and R&B, both of which have been reduced to shells of their former selves. Your opinion of what makes quality music doesn't matter to the people who make the record deals. My opinion doesn't matter to them either. The heads of the music industry are all nothing but peddlers of a hollow, counterfeit thing that they try to pass off as art, but it has no passion or inspiration behind it, only a mechanical, built-to-order combination of notes that are solely meant to gather up sales. I'm sure if Ciara came to her manager talking about wanting to do something else as dynamic as this he'd just laugh in her face and probably tell her to perform some sex act on him like literally every other manager in showbiz is doing these days.
God, the entertainment industry makes me sick...
@@ravencortenbach1672 Oh I agree, I like this version a lot more than the Rolling Stones version. I'm not insulting Ciara, I'm just saying the music industry that's taking advantage of her and countless other artists is awful.

haha same.
This song truly represents Paint It Black in its darkest of light. Its verses describing the eyes of a Marine who comes home from Vietnam.
*"I see a Red Door and I want to paint it black."*
Coming home after all he's been through and wishes it was black, for it deserves no color.
*"No colors anymore, I want them to turn black."*
Colors that express different emotions, but black is all he feels. Emptiness.
*"I see girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes, I have to turn my head until my darkness goes."*
With his anger, sorrow and the despair that lingers within his heart, he turns away to avoid all contact.
*"I see a line of cars and they're all painted black."*
A line of cars that are black usually carry the dead, in this case, his fallen comrades to their final resting place.
*"With flowers and my love, both never to come back."*
My guess here, tossing flowers and surrendering love to them as both would never come back to him.
*"I see people turn their heads and quickly look away"*
When Vietnam veterans came back home, dead or alive, many people turned their heads in disrespect or without regard.
*"Like a newborn baby it just happens everyday."*
Losses in Vietnam were heavy and people just became somewhat immune to it as if it never really mattered to them.
*"I look inside myself and see my heart is black."*
As days pass on, he looks into hisself and sees his heart turning black, succumbing to the horrors that he brought home and the feeling of emptiness quickly taking over his soul. Darkness is all he feels at this point...
*"I see my Red Door and must have it painted black."*
With all the disrespect received, the hate thrown and uneducated statements followed by deaths of his brothers in arms and the hell that he walked through, his red door of his own home is desired to be black as the exterior of a coffin.
*"Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts, It's not easy facing up when your whole world is black"*
In his mind, he believes that if he simple just goes away and not face the facts of what he had done, such as the burning of huts and accepting his fate to the onslaught of politcal slander in view of the public, he won't have to face up for his world is all but black. Emptiness, similar to the casket in which he wishes to be in.
*"No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue, I could not foresee this thing happening to you"*
As he looks on to the sea and near the shore, it is green, he cannot see it going blue as he looks farther into the horizon as you mostly do in most places. That and not forseeing this happening to anyone else meaning he wouldn't ever think of this happening to anyone else other than he and those who followed him into battle.
*"If I look hard enough into the setting sun, my love will laugh with me before the morning comes"*
Purely my guess: Looking hard enough into the horizon of the dusk, love will laugh in mocking fashion before the morning comes. The Devil laughing at his current situation as he enters into a severe depressive suicidal state and of instability, mocking him as it all slowly turns black into night.
*"I wanna see it painted, painted black. Black as night, black as coal. I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky."*
Its as this point that all of his flashbacks from the war had taken its toll on his sanity. His heart filled with eternal emptiness, sadness and hatred eventually driving him to his end. Desiring everything to be black around him. Black as Night, Black as coal. The sun to be blotted out from the sky, as in the doors of the casket shutting upon him for his desire to live has reached its end point.
Now, picture another line of cars, all painted black and his spirit, sitting on top of his casket, seeing girls dressed in their summer clothes. People looking away as if it was just another day. His Spirit turns away then looks at the sky, the sun blotted by a thick black cloud with patches of darkness throughout and a chilling wind as they near his own final resting place. Then as they drive away, fading to black... for it is all painted black.
This is my take on the song itself, Paint It Black, made by the Rolling Stones as one of their war protest songs from the 60s. The instruments here truly make it the song's essence: A depressing and dark song that expresses what the lyrics describe. But that ending with the background singers, truly grasps just what our heroes went through and received coming back.
Phoenix Yakumo The song was about someone who lost their lover in the war.
Phoenix Yakumo great breakdown
Jesus, the song really changes when listening to it after reading this
@King Me Well, its my take on it since I can relate to it more than any other possible event, especially since the timing of the song during Vietnam. Since also, my old man says roughly the same thing~

Same as Bon Jovi's livin' on a prayer. Maybe someone can sing it the same way (it's not an easy thing to do) but in my head it's connected to Bon Jovi. And so on. I will check the covers you mentioned tho. Thanks a lot!
now this is a cover, keeping the lyrics and understanding the rift of the song but changing the song completely but still in good faith of the original. Such a dark james bond twist is such a great take on this song. Fits the lyrics, perfectly
Idk why, but this sounds like it could be played in a Bond film.
Because it is good. :) and black
Agree
Or some other Twisted metal game like it played for TM Black
Idk why but doesnt this sound like The Rolling Stones
This sounds like it could be used for a movie about an awol cia agent.surviving in an apacoliptic world
This rendition is incredible! Can’t believe this is the first time hearing it
Thanks to mafioncé...ciara is so underated
Might wanna watch the movie too ...
Ikr?!?.....and I got here on accident! 🤷🏽♀️
When I was in high school I had the 45 vinyl. It was and still is one of my favorites.
Oh yeah, I'm nearly 75 now, and truly impressed by the quality of the covers I hear now days.
This is not the only, dig around there are some really good covers down that "Paint it Black" rabbit-hole.😎
@@bubumic2971 what’s the movie called?
I desperately want great female singers like this to start singing more rock songs.
It's a great cover but it's a pop version of a rock song
The original song was pretty up beat, fast paced and poppy also. It just came out before pop was a thing.
They would just need to get the great writers to write this genre of song for them instead of what they are given.
Maybe they should make rock songs then
Me too
Coming back to his. After being screwed over by everyone I cared about. It makes me want to embrace that darkness I have inside of me and just burn it down
When I first head this version I had NO idea it was Ciara. This is how she should sing. This was amazing.
weirdgirl5685 I agree . This suits her. It just works. And I love it!
Omg same. I just told my boyfriend that.
weirdgirl5685 agreed
I had to verify it was the same Ciara! This was beautiful
I don't care if her normal style is not to my taste. I can appreciate this great cover, and accept that she prefers to normally do something different.
Though this was an AMAZING cover.... I’m still waiting for CC to bless us with more dark, magical music 🖤🖤
This song feels like it's made for villains.😮 You know those who became villains after a tragic story or something.😅
I mean the original song is about a guy who goes through depression because his loved one passed away. Because of this, seeing something cheerful makes him sick and he wants everything to reflect his mood.
@@vDeadbolt Oh I see. I didn't know.
I WILL SING THIS SONG WHEN I SLEEP 😴 🛏 💤 (me looks in my heart me realizing it is black)
It _IS_ a villain-song. Haven't You watched Lucifer?
@@Ulvetann This song is a cover. This song was never meant to be used as a song for villians until it got covered.
I swear she ate this cover up
This one is amazing, Ciara KILLS it. I can't get over how much I love this song and Ciara singing it.
Takes really guts to cover a rolling stones song and she killed it
She didn't even mention it in description. It really hurts when you know that there's a lot of people who think that she made it and someone like rolling Stones just made cover. Bad news, rolling Stones made it.
@@booogiman you dont know who
Writers
Keith Richards, Mick Jagger are?
Looks like you were just looking for a reason to throw some shade to me. Had to hate on it. Needed her to have done something wrong so that you could insinuate low key hateraid and people would feel like they were wrong, fake or disloyal for liking it at all because she 'stole" it without giving credit
FOH
You dont even know who the Stones are let alone really care about their work
I think you just dont like Black People and your looking for an excuse to spread hate on us
we see you .....
@@studiohq Did he deleted some comment?
@What to Play? - No, you're just witnessing some asylum-level blame projection. Pierogi merely complains that there's no overt nod to the Rolling Stones' original piece, and from this simple RUclips comment we get to see a reaction that is becoming all too common today: a painting by StudioHQ of a shadowy, diabolical, hate-filled enemy that lives only in his/her mind. From Pierogi's comment, StudioHQ somehow deduces that Pierogi was personally insulting him, and that he hates and wants to discredit Ciara for making this and anyone who likes the song, and that Pierogi is subsequently a racist.
Folks, if you've ever wondered if brainwashing is real, study StudioHQ's comment and decide for yourselves. There's some seriously twisted shit going on here for someone to make such absurd leaps. All I know is I'm seeing this sort of thing more and more.
dude not everything is based on race. she did make a cover of the song without giving credit to the rolling stones and we would be saying this if she was white, asian, black, mexican, etc. you can’t blame fair criticism on someone hating or being racist
where the HELL have I been for 4 years???
Same here
Right?!?! This is sick!!!
@Akanishi lol
You all was missing in the Matrix
@Ingenium im from hrvatska(Croatia)
Absolutely great song and this is the only version that I play. Far above the rest.

She Did justice to the song❤
Ciara welcome to the dark side. Now would be so kindly to drop another villain song like again. WE HAVE VOTED
...and put it back on Spotify
@@stephaniesmith4770 it is on spotify
This is honestly fire. Jackie era was a time of experimentation for Ciara. She needs to explore alternative pop and RnB again. I can tell she was confident and secure during Jackie.
@@AnaLuiza-px3fu We know .... but this cover >>>
@@concamon1364 it's a terrible cover
Omg that first humming took my heart away
The vocal control 🔥🔥🔥
Should go down in history as the best cover of all time.
