Been playing the medium light Earthwoods for over 10 yrs, but I gotta say the aluminum bronze were my favorites in this shootout. Might have to buy a pack next time I need new strings
Phosphor bronze strings sound the best sounding in my experience of acoustic strings. I'm yet to try the new Martin titanium strings though which I'm excited to try
I found that too, generally I use Medium Gauge (13s) Gibson Masterbuilt Premium strings on my acoustic but those Coated Phosphors in the video sounded pretty cool too.
Doug Payne yeah I'm similar I use either Martin lifespan or Gibson strings, usually 13s on like a dreadnaught and maybe a hybrid on a 000 size. I used to use elixir strings however I find that now my playing style has changed I prefer strings that have that older more played in kind of time. Sorry for the ramble😂
Thanks for this - I was not aware EB did coated acoustic strings! This also further confirms my status as a phosphor bronze kinda dude - may have to try out those PB Everlasts next restring day...
I liked the Earthwood Phosphor Bronze over the 80/20 Bronze, but the opposite for the Paradigm series as the Phosphor version seems too muted in the Paradigm
Nice string comparison demo! I must say I was worried when I saw this video because I have not liked a number of your recent comparison videos (with all due respect). This one is much better because you hear the exact same part for every string set (exact same riff--notes, for same amount of time), rather than switching between sets at random points, where you rarely if ever hear the same notes being played for each set. I applaud the change.
The Earthwood Phosphor Bronze in Medium Light are my favorite strings set for acoustic. But for me they rust and loose brightness too quickly, had to change my strings every week, so, i do not use them anymore. Now i'm using D'addario's Phosphor bronze and they last longer without loosing the brightness and rusting. Soundwise, fresh Ernie Ball vs fresh D'addario i take Ernie Ball any time of the day, but on the long run, D'addario just work better for me.
TheUnspeakableOne I recently restrung my Yamaha FG800 with those exact earthwoods. One week later the B and high E string are already showing discoloration....bummer as I love the sound. I’ll try the D’addarios next.
Cool video. Definitely some serious dedication to do 8 string changes for the cause. As for which strings...they all sound good. I don’t think it really matters. Put them on and play! If I HAD to choose...I’d go with the regular old phosphor bronze.
I can definitely say i prefer Aluminum bronze and 80/20. Love the earthwoods 80/20, Paradigm 80/20, and Aluminum bronze. Im curious what each daddario string sounds like even 85/15
I'm looking to buy the phosphor bronze earthwood set (rock and blues) to replace the string the guitar came with (i got it off amazon Donner is the brand....probably a Chinese guitar....) not a full modification of my guitar but I figured the strings would he the best first step
I personally love aluminum bronze, got intrigued as Andy McKee uses the same set but eventually found out that they were literally amazing, especially for free style acoustic guitar stuff. 🙌🏼
Haha a demo where the string changes took longer than recording. Tell Ernie Ball to get their electric strings coated! Damn Elixir 10-52 are always sold out.
Even through my crappy $17 mono bluetooth headphone I can hear some clear difference! Love the punch of the Aluminum ones, need to look into a few of these sets this year.
I was given a fender acoustic for free...decided to put on the paradigm strings and they sound so good and rounded on this guitar. But every guitar is different
When you buy whisky they attempt to let you know what you are getting. There doesn't seem to be this with strings. It was great to hear this. I'm going to re-listen a few times then go buy new strings (hopefully they will all be available in Scotland)
Yay you played Pearl Jam. (And insert every rock band who played a semi ballad in the 90s/00s) Awesome shootout. Must've taken a few hours between all the changes and tuning and what not
I had a read something on the internet about increased fret wear with coated string use. Just wondering if anyone else had seen that article or if there was any proof to that. I understand it doesn't make sense, but lots of things don't make sense.
Personally I think 80/20 bronze sounds like crap in general. But those 80/20 earth woods were on another level. In my personal opinion. I play the Paradigm Phosphor bronze, and I like them a ton.
Yes i needed, some time to get away, I needed some peace of mind, some peace of mind that'll stay. So i thumbed it, down to 6 in LA. Maybe a greyhound could be my way...
Phosphor bronze all the way. The coated ones weren't half bad. Definitely not digging the 80/20's on that guitar, and the Aluminum Bronze is just harsh.
Good demo, but one thing was missing. As an acoustic player I was curious about picking individual strings both with the pick and finger picking..... fancy changing strings again eight more times?..... ;)
2:25 Silk & Steel
2:38 Earthwood PB

this is really helpful, thank you
Para dime
Pretty sure it's ""pair I dig'em""
if you had a bag of them you'd have a
para dimebag!
i'll see myself out
Its actually pronounced as paradigm
Stooopid I can’t believe you have done this
Will Dad actually notice me? He’s been out getting new strings for 20 years. When will he come home?
Dude this is one of the best sound videos I have ever seen. #ernieball give this guy some love. I will be running silk and steel from here on out.
today on speartson gear
I like the aluminum bronze they were really bright!
Been playing the medium light Earthwoods for over 10 yrs, but I gotta say the aluminum bronze were my favorites in this shootout. Might have to buy a pack next time I need new strings

Fluff you do some serious comparisons and I know these have to take forever. Thanks for the effort
They sound like strings! Nice work Fluff. Thanks for letting us know!
I really like the Aluminum Bronze and the Silk n Steel. Been using both for a few months now.
Lots of work dude! Respect and thanks!
paradigm 12-54 for me. Awesome job!!!
I would have to agree. On that guitar the coated strings sounded the best to me.
Surprisingly, I liked the silk and steel second on that guitar.
in my opinion the best strings is the first
George Papagiannakopoulos me to
Yeap me too.. I think the first one coz ma ears feel comfortable of its treble
Exactly
Thanks for this - I was not aware EB did coated acoustic strings! This also further confirms my status as a phosphor bronze kinda dude - may have to try out those PB Everlasts next restring day...
I usually use the Earthwood 80/20 bronze alloy strings.
GREAT TEST i like it was all done back to back.
I liked the Earthwood Phosphor Bronze over the 80/20 Bronze, but the opposite for the Paradigm series as the Phosphor version seems too muted in the Paradigm
Ernie Ball Earthwood 80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings is my choice or i use daddario exp 11 another great set of strings
Nice string comparison demo! I must say I was worried when I saw this video because I have not liked a number of your recent comparison videos (with all due respect). Yes please do a bass string shoot out im always looking for good quality bass stings
The Earthwood Phosphor Bronze in Medium Light are my favorite strings set for acoustic.

When are you gonna try different gauges?
it would be nice to have a comparison between mahogany back and sides and rosewood B & S.
I'm looking to buy the phosphor bronze earthwood set (rock and blues) to replace the string the guitar came with (i got it off amazon Donner is the brand....probably a Chinese guitar....) not a full modification of my guitar but I figured the strings would he the best first step
update i dont care for the sound of the rock and blues. I am going to go with the earthwood acoustic string medium
Great review. I'm going with 80/20 Silk and Steel. How about a 12 string comparison? I have an Epiphone DR212.
I personally love aluminum bronze, got intrigued as Andy McKee uses the same set but eventually found out that they were literally amazing, especially for free style acoustic guitar stuff. 🙌🏼
Nothing like that 2146 sound. Paradigm Phosphor Bronze its the most similar. Thanks so much for your review.
The bronze alloy sound amazing.
On my ears the best is aluminium bronze and paradigm phosphor bronze.
I am a D'Addario guy, but these sets sound awesome!
My personal favourite set was the last one you tried!
lets be honest we only look for 3 things
-Budget Friendly
-Lasts Long
-Great Tone
So what's your choice?
Haha a demo where the string changes took longer than recording. Tell Ernie Ball to get their electric strings coated! Damn Elixir 10-52 are always sold out.
Ryan Bruce Imagine being a roadie for bands that bring at least a dozen axes, like Metallica or Aerosmith 😣
nah id rather work at mcdonalds
There are coated balls out there.
bdwitt66
they use tools and are used to it. Also it's really not bad with electrics.
Kaledonia23 titaniums aswell
Would you do the same but compare 12 strings? Like Elixir and Daddario and Ernie ball and Martin and others?
This is the episode I needed thank you so so much your the best!!!
Even through my crappy $17 mono bluetooth headphone I can hear some clear difference! Love the punch of the Aluminum ones, need to look into a few of these sets this year.
This is a great order to compare the strings. The paradigm PB and Aluminum Bronzes sounded the best
You did Ernie ball, can you do Daddario, Ghs, or Dr?
Paradigm is pronounced (pair-UH-dime). Hope that helps.
Yes do bass stringe
I think my personal favorites would have to be the Eatrthwood phosphor bronze alloys.
I was given a fender acoustic for free...decided to put on the paradigm strings and they sound so good and rounded on this guitar. But every guitar is different
thx from the swabian highlands gemany, u´re a big help for me as a aged beginner thanks a lot
I thought the Paradigm kind of edged the others out. I do like coated strings, in general, though, for longevity.
Well, i just ordered a set of the aluminum dealios. Shall see how they go
i like the Paradigm Phosphor Bronze
Perfect video for me right now, I was planning to switch from Cleartone Acoustic to Paradigms, I didn't know which one to get
Which one its easy to bend?
Pls answer
When you buy whisky they attempt to let you know what you are getting. There doesn't seem to be this with strings. It was great to hear this. I'm going to re-listen a few times then go buy new strings (hopefully they will all be available in Scotland)
Nice playing
Yay you played Pearl Jam. (And insert every rock band who played a semi ballad in the 90s/00s) Awesome shootout. Must've taken a few hours between all the changes and tuning and what not
What happened to the electric guitar string comparison?
Guitar dependent as well...but for this one I prefer the silky one...then the paradigm 80/20
Your audio is amazing! What do you use to compress and mix your voice?
Have you heard anything about coated strings causing more fret wear than regular strings?
Troy Berry doesnt make any sense
Stainless steel though ...
I had a read something on the internet about increased fret wear with coated string use. Just wondering if anyone else had seen that article or if there was any proof to that. I understand it doesn't make sense, but lots of things don't make sense.
Troy Berry Sorry, I didn't want to sound arrogant, I am no string expert either.
Imagine dealing with the truss rod as you keep doing on putting on those eight different brand of strings. The neck would go nuts.
Im dying to know how you got the nickname "Fluff" or did i miss the vid that explains it? Rock on!
More JCM 800 please !
Personally I think 80/20 bronze sounds like crap in general. But those 80/20 earth woods were on another level. In my personal opinion. I play the Paradigm Phosphor bronze, and I like them a ton.
Either the first earthwood or the first paradigm
paradigm 80/20 bronze,
out of the strings in the video, I thought those were my favorite too, Stringthrower. 😁
Very helpful
Yes para Dime. all the strings sound the same to me. 🤔
Great video!
I was unaware that Ernie ball did strings for any guitar other than Electric Guitar 🎸😎
Yes i needed, some time to get away, I needed some peace of mind, some peace of mind that'll stay. So i thumbed it, down to 6 in LA. Maybe a greyhound could be my way...
Acoustic bass strings please
bass strings video please
Brother, I’ve been a D’Addario whore for ages. But, I rather enjoyed listening to the slight differences between strings. Thanks for the great video!
Aluminium Bronze has a vintage Sound Character
Phosphor bronze all the way. The coated ones weren't half bad. Definitely not digging the 80/20's on that guitar, and the Aluminum Bronze is just harsh.
What? 8 different acoustic strings? Didn’t know they made coated acoustic strings either. Aluminum Bronze because they aren’t as bright.
Second set! All the way
I preferred the first set 👍🏻
Whats the smallest guage?
Phosphor bronze just makes a superior acoustic string. Accept it.
Paradigm Phosphor bronze sounds best to me
Shout out for changing strings 8 different times for this video.
Eathwood 80/20 for me
It's pronounced "Pair-a-dime"
Awesome
The first one is the best
I only run Elixir on acoustics bro, always have, always will
Bass strings shoutout!!!! Pretty please with sugar on top
BASS
Can I djent with these?
Hey, I am Mark Stockwells Son:))
Ryan the String Thrower!
Ala the original, “Hobbit” cartoon
DO BASS!!!! Plz
K
Thx
Good demo, but one thing was missing. As an acoustic player I was curious about picking individual strings both with the pick and finger picking..... fancy changing strings again eight more times?..... ;)
Para dime?
Right I spelled it wrong. Sounds good here.
Dygmn?
I thought the paradigm 80/20 sounded good
Ernie Ball sounded best for my ear
Bass!
