- Foreigner in India searching for an Indian SIM card traveling in Maharashtra since data means mobility on the streets of mega cities like Bombay. I meet the local Don while walking in Andheri East and he helps me navigate the busy streets of Mumbai looking for that elusive Airtel data. I didn't know what a Don was but they sure have an interesting job description.

Yeah I want but hard to use for videshi without Indian bank so no gpay, no amazonpay. And most places where I get accommodation is cash only.

Unfortunately videshi cards for online payments are rejected since a year or so. For me cc did not work with Indigo and Airtel. It's been tough, mostly paying with cash and sometimes card.

It's very genuine issue. We have done great job in generalising online payment but only for localites. Govt should pay due attention to this problem all tourists face and come up with a solid solution ASAP. This will do marvels for our turism sector.
I agree. There are other countries that complicate a little like Brazil where I had to go to a local office to get a temporary "citizen number" to pay on their ebay alternative but then it was ok. Chile no issues and I ordered quite a few things online while there. When I got the error from Indigo while booking my flights, the only time ever in my 20 years of flying, mastercard kept a hold on the amount for 20 days before I got it back. That really gives India a bad reputation but I'm sure it will change soon like you say.
Indigo has a bad reputation for sure. Its target audience is people on budget. Aviation sector also needs to improve you are right. 😅 I hope they care about customer feedback too as Indian middle class grows. Air India will improve exponentially I am damn sure in coming 2 -3 years.
I'm pretty much their target audience ha. Well I ended up flying the last stint with Air India but I booked through a third party which I normally don't like to avoid cc issues. Great thing about AI is that they still offered a free inflight meal so it all ended up being a win.

I think buddy u should try UPI payments or barcode scanner for as little as 5 rs and at any road side eateries every one welcomes online payments. I am not sure how u would make a payment
