- Do my loyalties lie with Lego DACTA, Lego Mindstorms or both? Find out in this thrilling installment... The monorail system has taken up a lot of time but I want to get it right before building on top of it. Stay tuned for the end where I unbox a pretty rare item just for this build.

I am not sure what I love and enjoy more? The build or the controls? All great stuff. Loving this series.
Controls are kind of my thing 😅, it's definitely content you aren't likely to find elsewhere. I kind of expected these videos to max out at a thousand or so views each but so far they seem to be doing much better than that. Plenty of comments as well, which makes it all worthwhile. I just make the videos I want to make and then it's up to the algorithm to "giveth" or "taketh away" 😅
Cool to see the integration of all the different platforms!
Sometimes I still think I should have stuck with the DACTA Control Lab but I think the remote + RCX + NXT solution is much better for many reasons. It's also more expandable once I integrate more things into the build. For example a claw to (pretend to) unload the hopper wagon using another NXT controlled by bluetooth commands.
This feels like true BPB episode with all the crazy controls for the layout! Fantastic!
And then to delete everything and replace it with a single RCX and IR remote lol
Hey, there's an NXT in there too 😅
Looking fabulous! The use of Dacta tech is just crazy cool! 😎
Well it was 😅, I've used the DACTA Control Lab for tons of projects but I think the remote + RCX + NXT solution will work much better in the end
I just love how this diorama is going, pretty hyped to see the final result!
Thanks! I really didn't expect these videos to do well but they seem to have found an audience, I'm hyped to see the final result too 😅
@@BatteryPoweredBricks Heh, I found you for your train videos and that stuff some months ago, you insipired me to make a red maersk locomotive, you probably have seen it, anyways, what I want to say it's that I just love your channel and what you do in general!
Ah ok I recognize you now, thanks!
Welcome to the black NXT club! I've never seen the inside of one-- I was not brave enough!
It's just 4 screws away 😁
I love the monorail so much, it reminds me of the old Roken-Boks toys
Thanks! I wanted those so bad as a kid! Even when I saw the display at Toys-R-Us they often didn't even work. We've talked in our discord a few times how cool it would be to combine Lego GBC, RC and Mindstorms to create a Roken-Bok layout out of Lego 😁. Maybe one of these days I'll give it a try
I really like what you did with the gaps in the trans blue in the station!
Pretty sure I've seen it used before, I think it looks better than having them all along the sides without the gaps. It feel like something Lego would do in a set as well
I like the yellow tiles on the supports.
Nice diorama! A solution for the LCD is to use solder iron on the black flat-cable on the board side. Set it at 200°C
I feel like I tried that years ago but I don't remember having any success. It also seems like one of those repairs that will work for a while but will just break again. Like repairing XBOX 360's with a heat gun. The swaps made sense for me, some battery compartments are just beyond salvaging and I don't care to mess with the old fragile screen cables. If I can put two together into a perfectly functioning unit that's what I prefer
Loving the progress, gives me inspiration for my own attempts. Keep up the great work!
The inspiration goes both ways 👍
Wow looking really good!! I am sure the deal shall be altered yet again 😂
Also cool pickup on the black nxt box. Im glad you got to splurge a little!
I'm a regular Darth Vader over here altering deals 😅
Hes back again, trying to lead me astray from the righteous path of trains and my 8W calling.
*Han Solo shrug*
the screen can usually be fixed by resoldering the capacitor on the daughterboard
I've heard this many times and tried it on a few boards years ago. It was actually shown on camera in my second video on the channel. In my case the LCD ribbon cable was always to blame.
It would be great if we could get an episode all about Mindstorms
Some of my older videos focused more on Mindstorms. I hope to eventually make videos about the old Mindstorms sets but have never had the time to devote to such a project
Awesome work
Thanks!
@@BatteryPoweredBricks Vintage LEGO is Best LEGO. Keep up the good work
Looking pretty epic! What if you had the yellow supports under the tracks facing outward with some kind of tile decorations?
I considered it, but I think I like the octagonal pieces on their own. Feels fitting for Aquazone 😁
So wait, is that IR link sensor the same as the IR receiver sensor? Because back when NXT stuff was still sold, I bought the IR receiver for it so I could make remote-controlled Mindstorms robots. I don't think I ever even thought about using it to SEND signals... But it'd be neat if the two were one and the same, as it just struck me recently how rare the HiTechnic sensors are since I couldn't find any on Bricklink - at least not any I could afford. I guess I figured anyone serious about Mindstorms would be buying them, but I guess that also means those who wanted them were serious enough to keep them, so there aren't many for sale...
EDIT: Oh yay it is a bi-directional sensor lol. That's pretty astonishing actually, really opens up possibilities for more than 3 motors at a time and even for PF remotes acting as remotely-mounted touch sensors. Can't believe I never knew that. Well now I wanna build robots again...
I couldn't remember if the IR Link sensor was bi-directional but was so glad to figure out it was. It can send and receive RCX messages and send PF commands but I don't think it can receive them. I have an IR Receiver sensor as well if I ever needed that functionality. So glad I picked these up in a lot on Ebay like 8 years ago, they have been invaluable. Mindsensors make some very useful sensors but nothing like the HiTechnic IR Link
Nice! Will you use inputs to confirm the track switch is in the correct position before sending the train?
Still working this out. I have 2 inputs left on the NXT I could use but the pneumatic switch has been very reliable so far (after increasing the pressure a few PSI). The only time I have issues is when the IR message is missed. I think I'll just have the NXT confirm it got the message to the RCX or else the RCX will just send the message again
I do not want a monorail I do not want a monorail I do want a monorail F... what did just happen?
There's a 4D Brix seller in Germany that prints monorail track 😁
@@BatteryPoweredBricks That is a fact I'm sadly aware of 🤣
What is you outro theme?... it sounds familiar
It's Starmachine2000 by Wintergatan. It's linked in the description towards the bottom. Very happy they allow the use of their music on RUclips! I've used many other songs in videos as well 😀
