  • To celebrate World KC Day, NKCF has invited one of the leading experts on keratoconus, Stephanie Watson, to share what she has learned as medical director of the Corneal Service at the University of Sydney and professor of Australia’s Save Sight Institute, where she leads researchers analyzing information collected through the Keratoconus Registry.
Professor Watson received her medical degree at the University of Sydney and her research doctorate at the University of New South Wales for her work in dry eye disease. She completed advanced training in cornea surgery in the UK at Manchester Royal Eye and Moorfields Eye Hospital. She maintains a busy surgical practice at the Sydney Eye Hospital, specializing in corneal transplantation and crosslinking.
Dr. Watson also mentors what many consider the world’s top keratoconus research team. She has published more than 200 articles on topics as diverse as quality of life for KC patients, to crosslinking techniques, to the use of stem cell therapies for corneal disease.
She has received numerous prizes and awards. Most notably, in 2022, Queen Elizabeth awarded her the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) the country’s highest recognition of achievement, for her services to ophthalmology.
    Moderator: Dr. Karen Lee OD
