Above all, when he saw his family was threatened by Trump's DOJ, he rose to defend them by cooperating against Trump. Other people like Ted Cruz would not have done the same. Trump insulted Ted Cruz's wife and he said nothing. Trump also insulted Mitch Mcconnell's wife and he did not defend her either.

They have ceased to be in the Judicial branch and have begun to invade the legislative branch, because they could under McConnell's packing the Court with lifetime Justices that have become a Republican weapon rather than a separate branch of government. Hopefully, they will, after the reaction of the country to their activist Republican position rather than being a tool of the Federalist Society, Republican, Roman Catholic Supreme court with justice be damned and political policy prevailing.

by law thomas is REQUIRED to recuse himself. even the mere hint of impropriety demands judges to recuse themselves. will thomas do what's required by ethics and the law? NOT BLOODY LIKELY! we already have 5 supreme court justices who committed perjury to get on the court. i wouldn't expect them to stsart acting ethically or legally now. we'll have to wait, and wait AND WAIT some more to see if ANY law will ever be enforced against trump!
two legal principles come to mind - 1) if you want justice go to a brothel. if want to get screwed go to court. 2) the chomsky quote - lawyers are paid to tell us the law doesn't mean what it says. the law is ridiculously and needlessly complicated. equalism says "complication divides. simplification unites." complication in the law exists to create ambiguity. and ambiguity in the law invites, no, almost always results in corruption and favors the privileged, the criminal and the unethical rich.

Your connectionism to the political spectrum is valid when judges render biased decisions when judging a defendant (especially if that defendant is a minority) they're not fair or impartial. Biased decision-making process is the death of jurisprudence.
