We dig the new intro/outro with the drone and the zoom through the house. That was a cool touch. We are a Fluval Spec family too; choosing to specialize in nano tanks. Can't wait to see what creative ideas you have in store for the new Spec 16. Keep up the good work my friend.
For the whole video I was thinking "where could I put this tank if I were to get it?" This tank looks great and I know it'll be good seeing as so how good the spec V is, especially the stock light you get which is perfect for low and medium plants. Sadly I don't have anywhere in my room to put it at the moment, perhaps I could find space when I get around to decorating and cleaning the room up.
Yo, pectec, your theme tune is the best there is. Please consider making a video of just the theme tune. Your vids are also the best there is, you're always on topic and you're a great speaker as well as having a good sense of humor. I'm probably your biggest fan!
I love this , I just got one . But was wondering if you could do a video on water changes. Now I have tanks so I do know how. Just what or how do you move the lid off for a water change. Any ideas....
I think it's kinda designed for the filter area to be in the back and the floating part towards the front for fancy display purposes. I like the wood style tile flooring. I have half tile and carpet, I'll eventually get the tile wood, minor maintenance and looks great. My grandpas house has real oak floors in his 70 year old house which I sanded and stained like 10 years ago.
Very nice aquarium! I own the Flex 57 liter and Flex 34 liter from FLUVAL. I'm thinking about buying the FLUVAL Spec 16 Gallon (60 liters) too. greetings from Germany
Thank you for your review, I started with a 4gallon BioOrb halo for our betta but we. Want to expand. We looked at BioOrb but they didn't have long enough tanks as their flex only comes in like 10" length. Was comparing the flex and the spec here, you sold me on the spec with the improved light. Although I wish it had a bubble like the flex because it looks cooler lol
Hi Steve, for a new aquarium East's the best-way ro set it up as established for new fish? Not having another tank iin my house are there Certain chemicals or ideas you have ? For setting up a proper tank cycle. So the fish won't die when I add them in?
I.now have two of these and I absolutely love them. It’s great to have the two viewing aspects, front and side views. I’ve got some very happy fish and they’re easy to aquascape. So, I now have two Spec V’s, two Flex 15s, one Flex 9, two Chi’s though both have been modified with different filter and lights, a Flora, and two of the Spec 16s. I do have other brands of tanks, but I really love the filters in the Flex and Spec lines. They’re just so easy to maintain. Can’t wait to see what you do with yours.
Hey Lelani. I just bought one of these a few days ago and I haven’t set it up yet. The main thing I’m unsure of is if the light is strong enough to grow plants. I want to make it a pretty heavily planted community tank and I don’t want to set it up and not be able to exchange it or return it. Is your Spec 16 planted? How’s the light?
Lelani Dixon hi.. I’ve just got one of these and the found the pump is quiet noisy. I’ve checked and it’s been fitted correctly and isn’t touching any sides so isn’t vibrating off the glass. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!
I do the floss to speed up photo time. Normally I don’t use it past setup. I still run this tank. I have a playlist that’s all updates if you want to see what it’s like now.
I now have one. My only disappointment are the lights. They cannot be used with a timer as they will not come back on. The best workaround is to use the fluval digital light controller and dim them to 1% output overnight then ramp back up during the day.
I bought this tank for my black orchid butterfly crowntail betta after watching this video! However, I’m still new to the aquarium community and hoping you can help. I bought a small heater that fits next to the pump since crowntail like it warmer, it’s set to 80*. I put a filter pump sponge on it as well but just a bit because I seem to be having issues with the top water settling and causing oil buildup , maybe you could provide advice on that. I also added 4 Marimo balls (no real drift wood, and black substrate). I just did a 50% water change 3 days ago and my water is just a tad bit cloudy. I used API’s Quick Start and Stress Coat. It’s not super cloudy like I’ve seen in some RUclips videos. But I’m just wondering if things are filtering enough. I just used what the Fluval Spec tank came with in the filter. Any advise is SUPER helpful thank you so much!
Nice un boxing, I was looking at one but was on the fence, now I think it will be my birthday present....lol, I'm glad you went thru it with a fine tooth comb❤️
Well I'm glad to be proven wrong. Someone posted one of these (without a pic of the retail box) in an aquatics group asking if anyone knew anything about the new Spec. I said it was the 13.5 gallon Evo. I even scoured the Fluval and Hagen sites and couldn't find anything about a new Spec. But here it is! Slap me and call me Samantha.
I got my Fluval XII from watching your In boxing Video with your Daughter. Then I got the Fluval Flex 15gallon, now I gotta get this one. I have a Extra Light from my Fluval EVO XII so I can put the Light in the top and convert it to Saltwater....Thanks!!
hello, good evening, in Mexico this 60-liter fluval spec aquarium is not marketed, but if the fluval evo is marketed, my question is if I buy the fluval evo and ask for the fluval spec lamp separately, do you think it will fit perfectly?
Hi great review! Like to get your advice of choosing between fluval spec va edge. Specifically, Which one has a better filter and overall maintenance? I’m only running fresh water fish (goldfish for example). Thank you!
This is the main reason I want one....that and the lighted hood. From the dimensions he stated, it comes out to about 19 gallons--so if that's correct, it's 16 gallons not including the sump area. My current shrimp tank is 10 gallons but the heater and sponge pre-filter take up quite a bit of room. And of course it looks nicer without those in the tank!
Awesome, as usual. I am pretty much set to get one ... lol. You are one of my go to guys for reviews/info. You are very real in your presentations and I am drawn to that. Thanks for everything brother. I cant fathom why anyone would give you thumbs downs but thats a whole different topic ... lol. Thanks again Sean :)
This tank has been on the market for over a year and there still isn't much out there about it. What I'd really like to see a comparison of the Spec 16 vs. the Sea EVO 13.
I am not able to control the light with a timer. Once its off it can only be turned on by pressing the button on the light. Definitely a bad thing for planted tank. I'm not sure if I have a faulty unit.
Good morning, do you know exact dimensions of the light fixture for the spec 16 I would like to upgrade to a saltwater light but would love to keep original lid if possible. Thank you and happy aquariaism
We have the saltwater one (Fluval sea I think) and it’s light is the exact same size. I’m out of town or I’d go measure it. But I wanted to let you know that actually make a sw friendly light that fits perfectly if you interested.
Great looking tank, I'm a little worried about the part that hangs off of the base though - won't that compromise the glass? I thought all four corners of the tank had to be supported.
OK but with this style, when you remove the filter media - doesn't it dump yuck as you remove it to where it simply goes back into the tank? How do you clean this filter system?
Excited for this to make it to Amazon, I have a gift card to spend :) I was just in the process of setting up a 10 gal plant/shrimp tank and this would look about 100 times better....especially considering I have a 12-year-old aquaclear for a filter and still need to buy a light. Is the pump noisy? Obviously I could buy another one if so but if I spend 200 I wouldn't want to do that....
Hi, watch your videos a lot and enjoy them! I am in Western Canada and have been trying to find an AIO freshwater for a planted tank. I do not really care for the Flex with the curved belly. I thought I did but saw it set up in a store and did no like it as much anymore. Anyway, the Spec 16 is not available in Canada and not even in US right now I don't think. I don't want to order a Waterbox and spend hundreds on shipping and exchange and wait for six weeks! I am wondering if I could remove the light on the Sea Evo and replace it with a Plant 3.0. Even if I have to remove the lid and either have no lid or have a glass lid cut. Thanks for your opinion! Lori
Just found you on here, i enjoy the special effects lol ! I won a Fluval 5g in Rae's Aquatic's new year auction and I love it. So does my betta, Tao! :) Light so strong that even with live plants I've got algae going on. Very attractive tank. Looking fwd to see what you put in your 15 g!!
Looks nice. If only they made this in 20 gallons. Regardless, this would make a nice alternative to the Evo for a marine setup...with different lighting of course. Can't wait to see what you do with this tank!
Why is this tank not sold on Amazon and why have I not heard anything about it? Usually there are tons of reviews on Fluval products when I look online.
Stephen Sanders you know I’m not sure. I guess they limited their release to stores because I barely saw them online. I have just started seeing it on the shelves at my local fish store. So maybe there will be more out there soon.
I went ahead and purchased the Spec 16 from SaltwaterAquarium.com...It was $199.00 but I got $20 off + free shipping. Still a lot of money for me but I love the design and could not find anything better. Also, I have a Fluval 2.6 Spec and felt they are good quality aquariums and I like the "all in one" modern design. I like the Fluval 5 gal but I wanted something bigger. I am replacing an Aqueon 13 led widescreen aquarium (their light is low end and its narrow).
Hi. I enjoyed the video thank you. Would you mind answering a concern/question I have about the aqaurium. Can you place the aquarium light on a timer so it comes on with all leds?
D RK I just bought this Tank in the UK and it doesn’t work on a timer. I have tried digital and also Amazon smart plug with no success. I have contacted Fluval and they may be sending me out a new light. Did you have any luck?
Michael James that’s so odd mine works fine. I don’t know if there is a bunch of difference in the UK plugs. I know they are shaped differently but I wonder if something else is different between the two.
pecktec I have hope for my replacement being OK with yours working. I suspect there was a memory issue where the lights forget the last mode; switching back to off when the timer comes on. Seen all your videos and I know how much Fluval gear you have lol, love your tanks , thanks for the reply.
What would you guys stock in one of these? Or what standard tank is it most similar to, as the flex 15 is very close to a 10 gallon, I would imagine this would be about the same, but I know next to nothing about these tanks or their reputation
Nice review. I dislike those touch LED buttons... water messes with most of them, if not alone, then on wet hands. When do you think they will do a tank with CO2 built in too? Take note im calling it as of today haha
The Secret History Living in Your Aquarium That would be cool to have a full set of co2 included but its up to you on how much you want in your tank, everyone has different water properties and conditions. Its all about demand I guess, how much people would by a kit with a co2 set include?
Hey Pecktec glad to see you doing more and more videos :) One quick question I wanted to ask about this tank; do you think the piece that holds up the tank underneath is stable enough to hold 16 gallons of water? I was looking at amazon reviews of the evo version for example, and quite a few of them had problems of leaks, and even glass cracking under the tank, possibly because it's not entirely supporting the whole bottom of the tank frame. If people were having problems with it leaking and breaking with the Evo 13 gallon, I'm skeptical about the 16, having the same design, doing the same thing. I really wanted to get this tank for it's all in one features and overall design, but my only worry is that bottom frame that doesn't support the whole tank. Do you have any ideas that could make me have peace of mind in buying and having this as my long term tank? Thank you for all your time and dedication in the aquarist hobby. :)
Just commented on another video but now i see you gave a small update on your Spec 5g. Happy to see it is still running great with the light that was provided. How did growing the monte carlo go for you without having any c02 ?? Trying to make my Spec similar to yours. Great video and keep up the good work ! Cheers
Right on. Ive had people tell me that it wouldn't work in the Spec but yours was booming ! How much Excel were you using and roughly how many hours of light if you don't mind me asking?? Really want to get this tank right.
I bought this tank love it but was wondering why the water level is so low in back where the pump is the tank part is full but the back is really low did I do something wrong in setup? I put filter floss in the empty side and under the filter because my shrimp were going on the back of the tank 🙄 did that mess something up??
Nope you did fine. As it evaporates it seems to so up in back first. All their tanks do that. Just top it off or do your water change to fill it up as it gets low.
I'm having a hard time picking between the Fluval Flora 14.5, the Fluval Flex 15, and the Fluval Spec 16... Can you opine and help me out? haha, thanks! :) (Your videos are awesome!)
@@cosmic1504 saltwateraquarium.com but its out of stock there now. Nice tank but im not thrilled with the internal filter. I have since bought a Dennerle scapers 10g and will swap out soon. Lmk if you want it and we can make a deal
Hey man, question: with the lights, which setting is the best for growing plants? I see there is the first setting, white only, then the second is white and blue, and the third is moonlight. Should I use white only, or white and blue?
looks good. But its anoying that you cant put it 180° turned to have the filter on the left side. because then you have no hole to bring the wires out of the back.
I just purchased one of these 16 gal. Specs I also purchased an internal 3D background 2x 18 x 22 do you think it’s a mistake to lose that much water volume from such a small tank?
Are you in the UK? I keep hearing people over there are having issues with it. They must have made them differently there as this one is no different than my other lights. I wrote USA Fluval rep but he didn’t know what is up with that either.
@@pecktec first, thanks for your Reply :) i´m from Germany but it may have something to do with the EU plug. the timer works to shut off the led but it won´t work to turn it on again because once the Connection is cut the led cant remind its Setting and stays off. Maybe there is some work around, i´ll Keep searching for a solution. have a nice day
@@Covu_WoW I just got one of these tanks. As you said, the light will turn off with the timer but it will not turn back on after that with the timer. I planned to use this tank as a planted tank. It's useless without the light on a timer. Fluval needs to address the issue. I've emailed them.
Your videos and reviews have probably sold a lot of these aquariums for Fluval. They should change the name to the Fluval SPecktec in your honour:)
I'm in Switzerland so your giving the dimension in metric was very helpful for me. I hope you will do it also in the future.
He actually did it at 2:39

Nice, i love the all in one tanks for the simplicity of the filter and i think i want one lol.
Thanks first you got me to buy a Fluval edge; then a 30 gal rimless; now I gotta get this one too; LOL thanks Bro:)
Cooleo ikr. I swore I was done with this..... But this tank looks so cool... 😐

I crashed my drone so it was my most expensive into ever.

Congratulations on the tank , hope you have a great vacation
Can anyone advise on the best placement for filter floss in the first empty compartment?
Thanks for this, did you ever do the next video? Is it best to wait until cloud appears before introducing the floss ?
I do the floss to speed up photo time. Normally I don’t use it past setup. I still run this tank. I have a playlist that’s all updates if you want to see what it’s like now.
Good size tank, I just picked up a Fluval Spec V yesterday. I like the last scape you did in your Spec V...
I now have one. My only disappointment are the lights. They cannot be used with a timer as they will not come back on. The best workaround is to use the fluval digital light controller and dim them to 1% output overnight then ramp back up during the day.
I keep mine on a simple timer and it works great. So if yours isn’t doing that it’s broken.

I want one... thanks for the video.
Thank you for your videos and you are an awesome person
So how loud is It? I have been looking for something that size for my office, but I hate pump noise.
Any ideas for better pumps? Or are you happy with your spec 16 stock pump?
I think the sponge prefilter in the pump should be removed.
@@pecktec thank you!
Nice!! Can't wait to see it set up.
Nice tank. I'm sure the final result will be epic. 🖖
Thanks, really helped me set up!
Awesome Review. I might attempt to make a 40b off this design 😊.
Like the drone footage at the front and end!
I crashed the drone shooting this. So this intro was $800.
Oh, no!
I can't find this tank anywhere online??? Any help?
Just commented on another video but now i see you gave a small update on your Spec 5g. Happy to see it is still running great with the light that was provided. How did growing the monte carlo go for you without having any c02 ?? Trying to make my Spec similar to yours. Great video and keep up the good work !
Cheers
lukeisit1 it does fine without it so long as you have a good amount of light on it.
Where the hell did you buy it? This tank is almost impossible to find anywhere, except in Germany. Fluval do not even list it on their website.
oVerDriver I bought it from saltwateraquarium.com and I found it on fluvals website but it was more expensive.
I'm having a hard time picking between the Fluval Flora 14.5, the Fluval Flex 15, and the Fluval Spec 16...
Can you opine and help me out? haha, thanks! :) (Your videos are awesome!)
Can't wait to see you scape it, and see what fish you stock it with
Is it possible to use the light with a time clock?
Mine works. I’ve had UK viewers that say it won’t work for them. I wrote Fluval ask about it but haven’t heard back yet.
@@pecktec I'm in the US and my light won't work on a timer either. I've also contacted Fluval. If there's some trick to it, please let us know.
I just picked up the Evo 13 to upgrade my Evo 5 and my lfs also was selling the spec 16 for $129 and the Evo 13 for $127
Chewy's Bro Aquatics $2 for 3 more gallons!
TheGolemHunter yeah but i wanted the light for coral
Chewy's Bro Aquatics where is this fish store you speak of?
Great review. Nice manageable size nano. Have a great vacay💦
Hey Pecktec
just bought one of these tanks, do you know if the fluval Led Lamp Timer will work with this light?
where did you buy it from? I can't find one anywhere online.
@@cosmic1504 saltwateraquarium.com but its out of stock there now. Nice tank but im not thrilled with the internal filter. I have since bought a Dennerle scapers 10g and will swap out soon. Lmk if you want it and we can make a deal
Great videos man. Thanks so much
Hey man, question: with the lights, which setting is the best for growing plants? I see there is the first setting, white only, then the second is white and blue, and the third is moonlight. Should I use white only, or white and blue?
White and blue, plants grow best in the daylight blue kalvin spectrum
@@MsCooties thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Can't wait till you aquascape this tank!
looks good.
But its anoying that you cant put it 180° turned to have the filter on the left side.
because then you have no hole to bring the wires out of the back.
You could drill one yourself but I see your point.
Snoekvisser1972 for sure thats the way to go ... but then they could leave it without the ugly breakouts 😉
Yes, maybe they should have added a reversible or two way lid if that makes sense. Sorry my native language isn't English.
I just purchased one of these 16 gal. Specs I also purchased an internal 3D background 2x 18 x 22 do you think it’s a mistake to lose that much water volume from such a small tank?
Not if it gives you the look you want.
Could I use this for saltwater aswell? I was thinking of the fluval evo 13.5g. Does it matter?
Nick Palma just go buy the Evo the light is the main difference.
Great video Sean. Does anyone out there know the dimensions of the base? I've searched online everywhere I can think of.
I'm in love with this
I won a Flex months ago. It is still empty. The pump was very very loud.
That’s strange. Mine wasn’t loud at all.
Another great video
Great video as usual 👍🏻
hey pecktec :) i would love to know how you put this light on a timer. doesnt work for me at all.. good review though!
The Fluval/Hagen said they WOULD NOT replace my light. So much for standing behind your product. Don't buy this tank!
Maybe it works with a dimmer?! That's what i want to try out
Can it be a salt water tank - is the light strong enough to grow corals
Just get the Evo
What is the tank in the back ground looks a deep tank
Are you sure you gonna be able to fit that in the house? ;) Looks awesome! Thanks for the vid! 👍
I hope they make a salt version!
