- Today we tackle the job on replacing the front lower rear arm bushing that tends to go bad on the 2nd generation Lexus IS. This could cause problems on tire wear if not addressed. Figs designed these polyurathane bushings to prevent unwanted movement in the front wheels, thus preventing unwanted tire wear.

That new one looks leaps and bounds better than the original one. Nicely done!
Correct except for tightening the 22mm nut and shock bolt. Both should be done when the vehicle is on the ground.
With the poly bushings they rotate on the center so do not need to be tightened in poition, a much better design.
Thanks for the video! Really helpful! Removing the tires and bracket is definitely a must if you're working in the garage imo, just frees up space to break loose the spindle nut and to torque it back down.

Has he noticed a difference in tire wear?
I’m actually thinking about getting one of these because in my Lexus IS, the tires in the front wear out. The inner edge parts of the tires. These supposedly prevent this wear and tear.
Man....! I have a 2009 is250 rwd.....it only has 150k miles and I normally keep my Lexus IS for 10 years or 250k miles. I have never had a major issue with the car. I need to replace all 4 struts and I was told I need to replace the control arms because the bushings are bad. Well, as seen in this video you don’t have to replace the control arm just the bushing because there sold separately. Sad thing is most places I took my car don’t know that. I even took it to Lexus and they wanted me to buy the arm and the bushings. By the Lexus has 5 different bushings for my car. They told me they didn’t know which on to sell me until the alignment was done. I went online and purchased the bushings. Talk about getting the run around over a simple part to repair your car.
So did the new bushings help? Which ones did you replace, brand and hows the quality ect?
Dee Lee I replaced the bushings with factory parts sold by Advance Auto Store. My car drives like new again. I couldn’t be happier!
thanks for the reply ,I dont think Advance auto parts sells Factory parts . the OES. might stand for original equipment standard? meaning its simmilar but not exact?
However was that the only repair you did? if you did anything else it might add to the effect.
how have these USRS bushings help your tire wear? I only got 22k out of my pilot sport A/S when the warranty calls for 45k. such bs lol. just wanted to see if it is really worth it.
I think i need this replaced because of this weird noise that sounds like the ball joints are bad. Is that a sign of the bushings being bad and if so is the front bushings changeable in a similar way?

They look so nice, I lowered my IS on rsr springs about a month ago and I barely started hearing a clunking sound in the front, do you think if I change those would it help stop it?
What would happen if the mount is installed reverse?
Does this affect caster if bent? My caster is off and the lexus dealer told me that i bent that part. He had called it a "caster bushing"

I didn't notice anything other than stiffer proformance in handling

urs looks like simple...
bigboymarket you could technically do it yourself in the garage as long as you have it on jack stands on both sides and take your time so you don't hurt yourself but I'd say it's a 2 hour job on average for most shops. Also would need an alignment right after

IamAnoobiecheez it should tbh. It's mainly to prevent unwanted flexing in the suspension while driving

I own a 2005 Lexus IS300 and I recently installed Megan racing lowering springs on it, and ever since I have installed them the trac off keeps flashing and the abs light just stays on? Do you know what can cause that?
Dilshad Sindy maybe a sensor is broken or the axle could've been damaged during install. Should check your sensors behind the wheel hubs

Dilshad Sindy I've seen this happen to many people. I think it is a regular response from the car. I could be wrong tho

@ @@michieff: two reasons: 1) IS models are notorious for front inner tire wear often due to MIS-alignment to begin with hence d'reasoning for swapping out the OEM lower control arm bushings for firmer ones, and 2) if ya don't do this swap carefully / gently it could mess up your existing alignment, especially if you have to touch strut bolts - see @2:03.

I think folks are saying that it does need an alignment but that's misleading. If it's been a long time since your last alignment, then yes it's probably good to get one, but the replacement of the LCA didn't cause the misalignment.

Example 1: Yesterday, you got your car aligned with old LCA bushings still on car. Today, you installed new LCA bushings. Your car won't need alignment. If your car was aligned with old LCA bushings, it'll still be aligned after installing new LCA bushings.
Example 2: It's been a long time since you got your car aligned with old LCA bushings and, therefore, may be out of alignment due to normal "wear and tear". If it was out of alignment with old, it'll still be out of alignment with new bushings.
Bottomline. What I was trying to say in above post was that the bolts removed to change LCA bushings aren't the same bolts that are loosened to fix alignment. And, there should be no reason to have to loosen or remove bolts that affect alignment when changing LCA bushings.

Do we only install it for the front 2 wheels or are we able to install all 4 wheels? What do you recommend?
Front only as that is where the issue arises (front tire wear)

Far as I know the 3rd gen uses the same front suspension, only the rear changed from the 2nd gen. All IS trims use the same supension.

I did it just to support it. Just in case those LCA being unbolted may cause some shift in the subframe or engine.

Dee Lee it’s suppose to correct it. As long as you get a good alignment done afterwards

@@_JTPR_ How is that better? Not trying to be argumentative, I really don't know. I have started to read up on this because I just swapped out front tires on my IS350 after only 18K miles and would rather not do that again.
It seems to me that the RR-Racing bushings restrict travel more, to keep toe in check while braking and steering. Is it just a matter of driving style and feel that should determine choosing between RRR and Figs?
@@BoilersRock for one figs has many different options from street to track or replacement to solid joint. The performance ones are what I recommend because you have better steering stability through turns. The rr racing bushings don’t last for one and they are noisy after 10k. At a performance shop I always use figs bushings now because of the synthetic material that is soft for easy driving and stiffens up in cornering. This is all because of the synthetic materials used. Rr racing is just reselling a different brand. Figs was engineered in Colorado
@@BoilersRock you can defogger a solid spherical joint replacement but it will be a bad ride you kinda want the best of both worlds and rr racing doesn’t give that. But whatever you pick I highly suggest making sure the bolts are tightened on the ground to prevent the bushing from twisting. I also use silicone past on the sleeve to keep it nice and quiet and insure it doesn’t cease over time

@@beau8302 Bushings makes you disconnect the lower control arm from the steering rack/pinion. That is why
@@2ZZGE100 Lower Control Arm has no connection points to the Steering rack/pinion. Unrelated.
Only thing required to replace the LCA bushings is remove the 5 volts as shown in this video. The step where he disconnects the strut is completely useless too and not required.
Therefore, that's why an alignment is not required either, unless it just needed one before. But the replacement of the LCA bushings didn't cause the mis-alignment.

What kind of grease do you use?

Will this fix a 2007 Lexus is350 caster? Mine is off by 1.2 I hit a curb pretty bad and slightly pushed my wheel back

No this will help you with your inner toe wear... the car will feel better when braking but it won’t help with caster... installed mine today and got an alignment today

You are saying your whole wheel seems to be pushed back so put the car on a lift and check the arms , joints and everything else... if your whole wheel seems shifted back then you definitely bent something
