I think it is important to note that taking Step 3 is more than just strengthening the application. It also qualifies one for an H1B visa (although only few institutions sponsor this kind of visa for residency) to avoid the two-year home-country physical presence requirement for some exchange visitors with J-1 visa. :) Of course, another option for J-1 visa holder is the waiver.
Hey Dr Ralf
Does step 3 score matter?
@@Badheeb Hello! At the end of the day, it depends on what your plans are and it might depend on the PD preference as well. No straightforward answer. It's something good to have if you can take it already. (By the way, I'm not yet even matched but I got this answer based on the webinars and videos that I have seen so please take my advice with a grain of salt).
Hello dr.ralf can you please tell me how to avoid the 2-year home requirement?
@@amjdso9031 Hello! Pass Step 3 and aim to match in a hospital that sponsors H1B visa. :)
If you got matched in a hospital that sponsors J1 only, you can try applying for the Waiver of the Exchange Visitor Two-Year Home-Country Physical Presence Requirement. You can read up on that online too. :)
@@ralfmartzsulague375 Dr. Ralf did you match ?
i know you probably didn't talk about it because it ranges widely but visa costs are a very real thing and have an impact in cost. just thought people should also be aware and factor that in.
The USMLE is the hardest medical test in the world and one the 20 hardest test overall in the world.
Getting into the US for medical resindecy is expensive, hard and takes a lot of effort and time. That's why many people prefer to apply
to easier places/countries.
BUT, if u get into the US health system, your life is done!
