I think without the limitations of first-person, you *might* have been able to squeak out a Super Teleport and Tunnel Transport to grab that initial cache before the monsters got to them? Tunnel Transport is my go-to answer for resources that are widely separated from my main base, since it can easily do so without having to jump through weird hoops like I would with the water vehicles. Alternatively, a smaller Tunnel Scout and then picking up a hammer to reinforce the walls (since monsters can't emerge through reinforced walls, but you can still manually mine them yourself later). Could you explain and/or make a video explaining how you're fixing the laser weapon bug in first-person? It goes by so quickly in these videos that I can't quite work it out, and I'd really like to be able to use a better weapon in first-person mode. Also, as cool as the Insectoid helmet is, playing as a miner with one of the lit helmets would really improve the viewing experience; it was fine in the caverns where the lava was properly lighting up everything, but any time you moved to the darker, more closed-off caverns, it suddenly got rather hard to see what was happening. Anyway, great video, looking forward to more!
Oh, on the blaster bug, I found out that if you don't have the blaster in-hand then if you hit the X key then it will swap your equipped tool to the ACTUAL blaster you are carrying. Also, the tip of bringing a helmet with headlights did occur to me when I wasn't able to immediately identify which walls were hard rock and not solid rock. So good ideas all around.
