One of my absolute favorite things about this series so far is every time Johnny and Aoife decide to rewind for manipulative purposes, they blame Max as if Aoife isn't the one pushing the buttons.
@The Professor well yeah max does tend to remind people of their cringey past and they were ok the middle of before the storm so they were quite angry at her any way
GPA is grade point average as Johnny indicated. A 4.0 means you have no grades below A. A 3.0 would be equivalent of getting all B's, while a 1.0 would be equivalent of getting all D's. An F is scored as 0. Things like B+ or B- would be 3.33 or 2.67 respectively. All grade numerical equivalents are added together and then divided by the total number of grades to get the average. Also, AP is Advanced Placement, an honors level class.
Only 10 minutes in and already there have been obscure references, cool T-shirt ideas and hella interesting game theories. You two are always so entertaining!
I love watching Aoife and Johnny do these videos. They have so much fun together and have such great conversations, I just make a cup of tea and laugh for the whole video whenever one of these is posted. Thanks for making my day guys :D
I have really enjoyed this Lets Play and Before the Storm's segments. It does suck that there's only two episodes left. Once all the episodes are done, It'd be really cool to see a Let's Play with similar games like Firewatch, The Walking Dead Telltale Series, or Night in the Woods. Seeing you both take on Cuphead would also be interesting.
"To be fair, Max is probably the worst out of all of these[people]". Man, you guys really have it in for the girl, don't you? Max isn't faultless, but she's definitely a better influence than Rachel, whose relationship with Chloe largely comes across as a drug high. Having natural chemistry with someone doesn't mean they can't be toxic for you, and for as much as Rachel helps Chloe *feel* good in the moment, that rush usually comes at the expense of Chloe actually dealing with her own problems constructively.
You two are honestly so funny lol. And it's not because you try hard or do stupid stuff, your humor is so natural and I seriously can't get enough! Please never stop doing Let's plays!!!
I just noticed at 35:50 when they're breaking into Wells' office, them placing the explosives and hiding is a lot like the beginning of BTS Farewell when they're destroying the dolls!
I love love LOVE that the two of you also know all the words to that Bright Eyes song. My Bright Eyes days are behind me for the most part, but I still knew all the words myself watching this. Ah, emo memories.
Being super late to the game makes it so much more difficult that I didn't see these let's play sooner, but what gets me at the end of the episode is both max and chloe's reactions. Max's reaction out of fear and guilt of abusing her power changing the past . But chloe's reaction of smiling seeing her best friend after 5 years even though they lost touch just shows how much chloe still cares for max that's why this game cripples my emotions
My absolute favorite lets play of Life Is Strange and Before The Storm. Even after years and many watches of these videos I always find myself coming back to them for a re-watch. They always give me warm nostalgic feelings and memories.
Re. 'Release the kra-can!' who doesn't have those dumb rituals/in-jokes... when I was growing up we used to announce that a meal was ready by yelling "Come and geeeeeeeeeet it!" in the style of Flanders and Swan's 'Reluctant Cannibals' and, from the same, if someone said something contravertial you'd just look at them and say "Have you been talking to one of your mothers agan?" Or to bring it up to date, who _hasn't_ done a 'Force Gesture' when approaching an automatic door...
I just realized, David is the "poor man's" Batman... He's looking into other people like Batman He's stalking people like Batman He has surveillance over the whole place like Batman He's distant from everyone like Batman He also has a lair like Batman (a really cheap one called Garage) But, He's not rich He has military training He doesn't get an Alfred He doesn't have the girls (on his side at least) It's basically what would happen if someone tried to become Batman.
I feel like the ending of this episode is kind of a turning point. It's so brutal and suddenly you realise this isn't a fun hipster teen detective game.
It could be that Frank is so angry in life is strange versus before the storm because he's bitter about Rachel. He was in love with her. It could be that he places some of blame of Rachel's disappearance on Chloe.
2:07:48 Did anyone come back to watch the flashback sequence in Episode 3, since it happens earlier in the same day as Farewell Episode? Notice that Chloe and Max have the same jewelry but different t-shirts and clothes. This is maybe due to the flashback happening in the morning when they are having breakfast, so they may have been wearing pajamas if Max had slept over, though this is not referenced. As referenced in Farewell, the camera Max picks up to use is Williams, and is given to her later that day in Farewell. Max doesn't make any reference to moving to Seattle in 3 days in the original flashback, however it weighs very heavy on her during Farewell, even though it only happens a few hours later.
Usually, I try every option to see which outcome is better/what max would do, but there is no way in hell I would even think about testing throwing the bone in the road
Episode where Buffy can read minds is called Earshot. Not-so-fun fact: in the US, its airdate was delayed for weeks, as it was due to air the same week of the Columbine incident. No, I didn't need to look that up; I'm just that big a geek. We were devastated when there was no Buffy on Buffy night, but once it aired, we understood the need. I was a solid B student and had a 3.4 GPA, lo these many years ago. 3.2, in college.
2:04:15 - I have a theory inspired by this scene, but it is based on nothing but my own thoughts. I can see that Chloe's increasing bitterness drove a wedge in the relationship between her and Rachel. Rachel was, after all, still popular at school and I imagine that there was some conflict on that matter for them... as I think Chloe only had Rachel, but Rachel had a larger social circle and thus a better coping mechanism... and it now feels like her partying with the Vortex Club and her affair with Frank seemed like passive-aggressive actions to spite Chloe's increasing selfish rage.
It's so hard to get a bead on Rachel because in BTS we see such a brief and turbulent snapshot of her life and only the very beginning of her relationship with Chloe and then in this everything we learn is through other people's eyes. Was she just using Frank and Chloe for her end goal of escaping Arcadia Bay? Or did she really have feelings for one or both of them?
Sadly I think rachel was just using frank and chloe. rachel clearly never spoken a word to chloe before randomly asking her to go on a trip with her. rachel just knew chloe had the same interest of leaving so rachel used chloe for that specific reason. Chloe definitly loved rachel more than rachel loved her.
YAYYY its finally here ... im too lazy to go play again the life is strange after i played before the storm ... to get more emotional in rachel scenes but now here we are you are doing it for me and i enjoy watching it ... wow thanks you so much aoife and johnny
Well, specifically, the game seems to subscribe to the "Many Worlds" theory, in which every possible outcome of a decision or an event plays out in parallel timelines. The theory that Max's power is to step between parallels ignores the obvious visual indications that she is actually manipulating time: events rewind around her, and she basically froze time to save Kate. To me, it's clear Max isn't just stepping between parallel timelines, rather, she creates a new timeline every time she rewinds.
you guys should really do Telltales the walking dead serie, from the very first game up untill the most recent one. your comments would be perfect for that game :D. please do it, or at least consider doing it, it would be fun to watch:)
Probably not actually the only one who DID get your 'full moon... total eclipse' reference, but totally did (still do that with jaffa cakes to this day)
At 2:02:17, the letter Rachel wrote to Franck looks like the same one chloe used to repair her car in episode 1 1:23:29. I wonder if there is any meaning behind it.
I just realized something in this episode; Chloe calls her mother mom in Before the Storm... yet in this episode she tells Max: "Go downstairs and show Joyce"... so canonically, does Chloe become more distant from her mother during Before the Storm ? However, I can't remember if in Ep 1-2 she refers to her as mom.
Yes, indeed. I do need to check in their BTS playthrough; I'm pretty sure that Chloe refers to her mother as "mom" when she talks to Rachel; if she didn't then I blame Max for rewinding time and making me remember stuff that I shouldn't :p
SoyBatman I think she says mom in BTS but maybe it's because Rachel isn't very close to Joyce? I mean, Max is like a second daughter to her so it makes sense to call her Joyce in her presence since to Max Joyce is someone close to her, while for Rachel is only Chloe's "mom". I see the same conflicts between them in BTS and LIS, especially if in BTS you don't take the "be extra kind to Joyce" route
Wouldn't she all the more call Joyce "mom" with Max? I guess the thing that puzzles me is that in no situation would i refer to my mother by her first name, at best it would be a Mrs. Doe for administrative papers. But other than that i don't really know. Also as you say, if you're really nice to Joyce there is no reason to be distant. That being said we don't know what is canon yet.
another Line "Chloe, Dont Be surprised if one day i up and leave Arcadia Bay" "she wouldn't leave without me okay?" this tells me Chloe forgot about that line
For the GPA thing (to keep it simple), 4.0 is exceptional like you guys said. Max's 2.8 isn't too bad, but she's pretty average. And about Chloe's 1.7....she probably did her homework once a week, let's leave it at that lol.
I actually sided with David, although I was with Chloe all the way. From the very start I had a hunch he was not a bad guy and I did not want to have a ruined family on my hands, since I was afraid it could really swing David against me.
I can only assume those who hurt Pompido are either serial killers in the making or seeing how it changes the timeline in another playthrough. Do you think we're maybe seeing a Frank that's like this because he's finally been pushed too far with the students of Blackwell along with Rachel being missing. He finally seems to be chasing down money owed which he was pretty slack on. Maybe we'll see in Episode 3 signs of him and Rachel and reasons why he might not be too warm to Chloe. Maybe he saw her as holding him and Rachel back. Their whole relationship makes me feel sadder about what happens in Before the Storm with Chloe and Rachel because it means that at some point Rachel either breaks it off with her but they stay friends OR she's cheating on Chloe. I was thinking on the box of stuff that you find in Samuel's room, could it possibly be lost property of things he's found around campus? I think it was certainly meant to be a red herring but it does look like a lost property collection to me. Solid Jaffa Cake reference!
I hurt Popmidou because I wanted to piss of Frank as much as I could. Still, it somehow helps you with the later interaction so we ended up as friends.
You guys totally rock Arcadia Bay! I loved your playthrough of Before The Storm, it's sooo good. And I totally agree, Before the Storm really is bound to make you value Amberprice a lot more. Rachel and Chloe do make a lot more sense than Pricefield. Although, come to think about it, I'd love to see what would happen if Max were to meet Steph. I can't wait for you guys to play "Dark Room" and "Polarized" (you're absolutely right about Max for sure!) and of course for "Hell Is Empty".
No, no, no. Max and Chloe are such a better match than Rachel and Chloe. Rachel and Chloe are TOO alike to be a good couple. Max and Chloe have enough similarities but also enough differences to make a great couple, and their strengths and weaknesses support each other
Joyce is so GOOD. Not perfect, like losing William obviously fucked up her up and left her with no confidence, but the morning sequence with Max was so sweet.
Ok, so even in video games, I'm compelled to say De Moon De Moon, Hello bunny, just like I do in real life. And then they go and get weird with de moon.

"I don't want to choose wisely, I want to choose Chloe" - Aoife 2017 . YESSSSSS love it!!!
this was me but it took me 2 episodes to accept it. i even gave Warren a chance but realized Max and Chloe need to be together lol
timestamp please?
Y.C. E. I loved that!
akhil thakur its near the start of the video like within 5min

One of my absolute favorite things about this series so far is every time Johnny and Aoife decide to rewind for manipulative purposes, they blame Max as if Aoife isn't the one pushing the buttons.
"Ready for the mosh pit, Shaka Bra" is one of the best lines in the game, what you talking bout!?
@The Professor well yeah max does tend to remind people of their cringey past and they were ok the middle of before the storm so they were quite angry at her any way
"I don't want to choose wisely, I want to choose Chloe"
Eurogamer, you definitely need to make this a shirt :D
Will never get sick of this game
Johnny's theory about Max warping between realties aged really well. It literally is her new ability in Double Exposure.
Watching in 2024 and playing on Series X, to get ready for the new game of course.
I just realized that after possibly kissing Chloe, Max puts on the same outfit that Rachel wears when she first kisses Chloe.
DoctorWeeTodd its not that shirt btw
I love watching Aoife and Johnny do these videos. They have so much fun together and have such great conversations, I just make a cup of tea and laugh for the whole video whenever one of these is posted. Thanks for making my day guys :D

Isaac And to be fair, they seem to pick the choices that make her seem like a shittier and more manipulative person...
You two are honestly so funny lol. And it's not because you try hard or do stupid stuff, your humor is so natural and I seriously can't get enough! Please never stop doing Let's plays!!!
LETS GO TEAM NOT-WARREN

9:10 My understanding is that this view of time travel is what's textually supported in the game, especially with the events of later episodes.

Max as Batman!? LOL you killed it Haha!!!
"WHERE IS RACHEL AMBER!?" "WHERE IS SHE!?!?!?"
LOL
At 2:02:17, the letter Rachel wrote to Franck looks like the same one chloe used to repair her car in episode 1 1:23:29. I wonder if there is any meaning behind it.
Could the "No more secrets." be a low-key reference to 'Sneakers' (starring Robert Redford, Ben Kingsley and Dan Akroyd) perchance?
Appreciating the Jaffa Cakes advert joke 3 years later
COLD TOAST???? Johnny! What kind of mad human being are you????

I just realized something in this episode; Chloe calls her mother mom in Before the Storm... yet in this episode she tells Max: "Go downstairs and show Joyce"... so canonically, does Chloe become more distant from her mother during Before the Storm ? However, I can't remember if in Ep 1-2 she refers to her as mom.
SoyBatman she says "sure mom" in episode 2 of LIS when she's at the diner and Joyce tells her to put off the table the things she had in her pockets 😄
Yes, indeed. I do need to check in their BTS playthrough; I'm pretty sure that Chloe refers to her mother as "mom" when she talks to Rachel; if she didn't then I blame Max for rewinding time and making me remember stuff that I shouldn't :p

He gets a lot easier to deal with if you do that, too. And is actually willing to cover for Chloe with the cops.
I would just like to say: I got the full moon, half moon, total eclipse reference :D
Did Johnny say "riffle" or did I imagine that? Also, what's a crack hen? It must be dangerous if it needs to be locked up.
kraken not crack hen, it's a Nordic sea monster. "release the kraken" is a rather infamous line from the infamously cheesy movie clash of the titans.
I prefer the idea of a giant chicken with a substance abuse problem. For context, I'm half Scandinavian.
Where does that other sock go?
Where do the ducks go in the winter?
I sense something interesting
You guys totally rock Arcadia Bay!
I loved your playthrough of Before The Storm, it's sooo good.
And I totally agree, Before the Storm really is bound to make you value Amberprice a lot more. Rachel and Chloe do make a lot more sense than Pricefield. Although, come to think about it, I'd love to see what would happen if Max were to meet Steph.
I can't wait for you guys to play "Dark Room" and "Polarized" (you're absolutely right about Max for sure!) and of course for "Hell Is Empty".
It's Prescott money! You'll see it in ep.4 alternative timeline!
35:45 Farewell reference??
No, no, no. Max and Chloe are such a better match than Rachel and Chloe. Rachel and Chloe are TOO alike to be a good couple. Max and Chloe have enough similarities but also enough differences to make a great couple, and their strengths and weaknesses support each other

Jaffa cakes advert! I reference it all the time and just get stares back
Full moon, half moon,,, total eclipse!!
