I saw a movie once where this homeless guy was left in the desert and he came across a hole in the ground full of water where there wasn’t any water to be got for 100 miles around. He ended up filling a homestead claim on the plot and he sold the water to wagons coming across the desert. He became wealthy selling water to travelers.
keep all your egg shells and when you have enough make sure they are dry enough, i put mine in the dehydrator for a couple of minutes, and grind it all up - its great for the garden esp for crops that need a lot of calcium like tomatoes etc. I never throw egg shells away these days
What I do every morning is toos my egg shells out in the back yard right as I crack my eggs in the pan. The powerful nutrients of the fresh egg goop getting into the soil has made my back yard look like that dark forest tuime lapse scene on the Jupiter moon Europa at the end of the 1984 scifi film "2010: The Year we make Contact." It works.
To create a space for the morning shrooms i would try some kind of box that u can sit water or some kind of wet something in it so it will allow mosture on the box.

Get second hand aquariums to grow your mushrooms in. You can then keep the humidity in the aquarium/terrarium. I know nothing about mushrooms, so I don’t know how much space you need, but I had a similar problem with growing orchids and I needed some humidity. I used terrariums. I actually have miniature orchids, so I didn’t need big terrariums. If you can’t find second hand aquariums, Petco sells them for a $1 a gallon once a year (not sure when they have their sale, and I think it may now be a 50% off sale).
Personally Ilike pumpkin. Not just pie but it can be so many things! Even in cold drinks! Pumpkin ice cream if you make your own. BUT you only need 1 pumpkin plant or maybe 2 and give away some. lol

Looks like you're off to a great start, but it ain't easy bein' green--not in the mountain west! I've been gardening here for 30 years, and feel compelled to throw in my two cents. The wildlife will find your garden if you do not protect it somehow, probably right before your first harvest. Do you have culinary hose for your drinking water? If left in the sun, carcinogenic chemicals can leach into the water especially as garden hose ages. And finally, start investing in bamboo stakes! I have 8', 6', 5' and 2' lengths, from which I can make trellises, temporary fencing, plant supports, and myriad other uses around the garden. They're relatively cheap, sustainable, and last through the dry summers and harsh winters. Good luck! Mountain gardeners need more than the average bear.
Build a well-house, bathroom, kitchen building...put trapdoor on the floor and grow the mushrooms under the building. Get some worms for your raised beds...use drip irrigation to water everything. Utilize water catchment on everything you build...even on garden shades. You can use billboard tarps to catch water and create shades off both sides of your container. Lease me a place and I'll buy another container and build a connecting covered area. I have a plasma cutter and welders, lots of aviation fabrication tools and seriously good diagnostic skills. My career was troubleshooter in aviation industry.
I was wondering how long before Chris grabbed the hose to drench you after your innocent "It's so cold" 😂🤣😂. Love how excited you get makes me smile to see it. Thank you for sharing your adventures
How many horsepower is your well pump? I’m at 7500 ft off grid in mountains of Idaho. Have 4500w generator after generator fail in the winter. Have Eco flows in the house.that work great on our small solar system but hadn’t considered it for the well pump. BTW, been meaning to tell you, you and Chris are welcome anytime. Or just you if you are rambling. Stocked Alpine lake 3 miles up the mountain. Our Eco flow powers our 3 bedroom house. Been here 11 years, have a garden and starting a second home for just me. ❤
Being that you're in a dry climate, you should build a taller bed as most plants need at least a foot or more and you'll have enough space for large root plants. Rather than spending a fortune on soil, fill up the first 2/3 of it with twigs and leaves and then put soil on the top 1/3. All the twigs/leaves will break down slowly into the soil and provide a lot of nutrition. Start to compost and incorporate it into the soil to built the nutritional value. Also, MULCH so you keep the soil moist.
This one retired couple in the high desert of Texas years ago made a system that channels their septic straight into these purforated underground tubes they were growing their garden directly on top of. They basically built a recycled human manure works that directly self-fertilized their food garden from underneath. And the whole thing was basically a set of toilet-fed leach lines buried under their outdoor garden. It was genius.
I'm Gen-X and I wouldn't have drank it yet without the full pallet of decontamination practices like Shock Chrorination and checking for things like arsenic, etc. lol
A minimum of 2,000 gallons of water (20 casing volumes times 100 gallons) should be flushed from the well. In some cases, allowing water to discharge from a garden hose for 24 hours can correct contamination problems. Get the water tested before drinking: DOH recommends that private well owners test their drinking water every year for coliform bacteria and nitrate. These two contaminants rapidly could affect a person's health-possibly even with just one drink of water.
@@MichaelWilliams-ro9bm Hopefully, always good have it checked out, even deep wells can have issues with high levels of arsenic and other heavy metals. Many wells have issues from the drilling, it can introduce above ground bacteria like e coli, jardiance into the well and contamination of well, you'll need shock the well with bleach to fix it, then retest it.. My brother in law a well digger for over 30 years, he always tell folks to run the well, get the test sample from the water spigot, never use the hose, since hoses have bacteria in them, could give a false reading, why you should never drink off a garden/ outdoor hoses. Anyways looking forward to her project...
@@CindyJohnson-n8m actually been and currently on a well as we speak. I live at 6100 feet in elevation. I’m guessing she is up there also. No issues, but did well check against drillers advice 24 years ago. He explained how the water flows at 600 feet down. I live in NM.
@@Non_Descript_Individual I’ll have to look into that. I know a few years ago. It had to be white with the blue stripe to be OK to drink out of things could’ve changed. Thanks for making me aware. I’ll check it out.
Actually plants don't love it. The micro biome critters in the soil convert it to plant nutrients. Much better to put coffee grounds in your compost, then they'll be available through rich soil, otherwise you're converting your growing beds into compost piles and it can take a year to be broken down.
I drill a hole in the bottom of plastic pots, and grow tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers that grow out of the bottom, and in the top, I plant my snap peas. They grow up the chains that hold the pot. No weeds. 2 posts in the ground, and another across the top with hooks. I think that would work for you. Your garden looks great.
Anybody who treats their dog like you do just makes you the best human ever, the first thing that I check out when I come across the van living group! So awesome I found your channel ! Much success and light always!
Your chicken in a crock pot recipe exceeded my expectations! I am old, 65 plus years, never have I had better moist, easy pull apart chicken, simple tasty! Sometimes I switch the salsa with a little Bbq sauce, chopped onions, shred the chicken and serve on a bun. Your crock pot chicken method is the very best way to prepare a delicious meal and the left overs even get better! Thank you! Mike
@3:45 What about a van deck you can pull up to? A place to cast a bit of shade and basically be an extension of the van living space. ruclips.net/video/fijsRfEEq9U/видео.htmlsi=Ex_ew2bttn_FfTO4
If you dug an underground cellar you could get better climate control and humidity control for growing shrooms. Also a good place to get away from the summer heat as it will always be cooler than above ground!
A greenhouse with a water feature will give you the moist environment for the mushrooms, although, you will also need shade cloth to cover at least one end of the greenhouse for shade.
You may consider sending a water sample to get tested just to make sure your water does not have any harmful bacteria or heavy metals. Was a check valve installed just above the screen on the end of the well pipe? If not, a check valve will keep the pipe inside the well full of water so when you turn on the well pump the water will come out almost instantly. Consider putting a 90° ball valve on the end of your hose so no contaminants, insects, bugs, etc can enter the well through the hose
I love that when you "lose control" it results in more plants. that's just adorable and i'm all for it ; ) I'm a little surprised Akela is still so timid about jumping into the truck I love that you have access to a river for fishing. i know from previous videos of yours that its a fun past time for you.
Testing is a good idea. But couldn't a solution be to just filter the well water if necessary?
Most green water hoses contain lead you should get an RV type that’s white
I did not know that! Thanks for the education. My dogs play and drink out of the green hose and play in the sprinkler 🤦🏼♀️
Food grade...they aren't always white, but it's food grade you need. Several lined hoses work ,too
Make sure it's BPA-free plastic though.
@@Non_Descript_Individual I’ll have to look into that. I know a few years ago. It had to be white with the blue stripe to be OK to drink out of things could’ve changed. Thanks for making me aware. I’ll check it out.
Thanks for the tip, Joe!
When you have enough used coffee grounds for the shrooms, save the rest to sprinkle in your garden . Plants love it.
It's also a great hand scrub and in a tiny cold bag for putting on the eye area when needed. I have tons of more uses for coffee grounds.
Actually plants don't love it. The micro biome critters in the soil convert it to plant nutrients. Much better to put coffee grounds in your compost, then they'll be available through rich soil, otherwise you're converting your growing beds into compost piles and it can take a year to be broken down.

Great tip - thank you!
I had a friend harvest clay and later found out it had a high lead content. She harvested in Illinois, but I just thought I would share.
Oh great to know. Thanks for passing that caution on!

Thank you! Mike
Ohmygoodness I'm so so glad you tried and enjoyed it!

Aw it feels magical over here too. :)
@3:45 What about a van deck you can pull up to? A place to cast a bit of shade and basically be an extension of the van living space. ruclips.net/video/fijsRfEEq9U/видео.htmlsi=Ex_ew2bttn_FfTO4
Wow great idea!
Yes love that idea!
Another great video! I'm enjoying watching your progress! Congrats on this new adventure ......please keep the videos coming!!!!
Thank you so much!
HI there. My name is Charles wade Linn jr. And. I. Live in abbleen Texas usa. 🤠🤠🤠🤠
I loved this video! You are having soooo much fun in this one!! I am happy for you!!
If you dug an underground cellar you could get better climate control and humidity control for growing shrooms. Also a good place to get away from the summer heat as it will always be cooler than above ground!
Great idea!
A greenhouse with a water feature will give you the moist environment for the mushrooms, although, you will also need shade cloth to cover at least one end of the greenhouse for shade.
Yes - sounds great!
Y’all are my inspiration. Looking for a van…didn’t you have a van at the shop in Kansas? I’m interested…. Chris I’ll email you on the status.
Not sure if it matters to others, but your hose connectors are likely lead. You can get lead free
Usually, if the deer have plenty to eat, they'll leave you alone. It was a mild winter. They are probably doing okay.
Great news for everyone!
So peaceful ❤
I love that when you "lose control" it results in more plants. that's just adorable and i'm all for it ; )
I'm a little surprised Akela is still so timid about jumping into the truck
I love that you have access to a river for fishing. i know from previous videos of yours that its a fun past time for you. I'm glad you get a chance to unwind and step away : )
What a great find!
Clay pitchers keep water cool 😎 👌 ❤

Linnea...are you concerned about your water being in plastic and micro plastics being consumed? Especially as blue jugs and as they gradually get warm...Time for gifting you a stainless steel one?! Much Love. Just concerned...
Lennea I follow you with admiration and with respect for everything you do, you are a great woman who can be there and be seen, stay as you are.
Oh wow - thank you so much!
Congratulations on your well. It will make an incredible difference in your life over there.
CHEERS from Colorado
Thank you so much!
I love your fortitude. Do you know about companion planting to reduce bug problems?
Such a cute garden area ! well done for a start girl ! and I was thinking you should build a small well house for over your well, and insulate it for the winter so things dont freeze up?
