Wish they did this more often in Doctor Who. This song suits the Doctor so perfectly. It's beautifully written and performed. I cried when he said his speech along with this. Goodnight Raggedy man. Gone but never forgotten.
I picture the funeral of the Doctor. I picture the thousands of beings he's saved paying homage to the greatest hero of space and time. I picture his companions, all of them, in tears, as they beg for the universe to give them back the man who was brave and kind. I picture an entire universe in mourning. And at the last "Wake up," he opens his eyes, ready and eager to be a doctor once again.
If it had been up to me, i would have changed the 11th regeneration so he would have died defeating the Darlek ship one last fight for the warrior. We see the doctors body being carried to a table/alter of sort and lain there as a mark of respect to the man who gave his life to protect the village. We then start to hear the long song sung in the background, almost as if it has been carried across the universe from the rings of akathen. We then see a rift open in the sky above the the building where the doctors body is resting. Energy flows down and almost forms a cloak over the doctors body as it is it absorbed by the doctors body. And the doctors eyes opens, we then shift to the lower half of the alter when we see the lower part of the doctors body mainly his legs touch the ground. At the start we see his staggering like an old man, but then regeneration energy starts to surround the doctors legs almost like a cocoon and the doctors walk start to become more and more like his old self. As he reaches the Tardis we pan up to see the hands of the doctor now young again opening the latch to the phone. the rest of the scene goes on like it did in the actual episode.
And that really is (in my opinion) the best way to do a regeneration. we are sad to see the departure of the old doctor, but at the same time we get the joy of a new doctor.
So... a part of this song was used for the Doctor's regeneration into the 12th. I'd like to draw attention to the fact that during the the Doctor's speech in The Rings of Akhaten, he says "Take my memories." 12th has lost his memory.
Yeah, but according to the episode, when the "Old God" takes a person's memories, it also takes their life. The Doctor didn't die in that episode, thus, he could not have lost his memories of everything, or grandfather just regurgitated all of The Doctor's memories. BTW, the "part of this song" you're thinking of, is the next song on the disc, Infinite Potential.
I know it's confusing but he hasn't lost his memories he has post regeneration amnesia which is like after you regenerate you forget small and sometimes big things. The 11th had it if you payed attention. He forgot he was crashing and when little Amelia asked him who he was he said he didn't know.

The French version of that speech is also absolutely incredible. I watched the episode today with my girlfriend (I started teaching her the "Doctor Who" way a few months ago, it was the first time she watched this episode XD), we were about to cry.

I like how the Eleventh Doctor was so much like a warrior so this song was very fitting for his battle against Akhaten. I love this song, my jaw dropped to the floor the first time I saw this scene. I would love if they revisit this particular piece in the 50th or the Christmas special, it's so beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful. This scene was definitely in my top 3 in all the TV scenes I've ever seen. The Doctor's speech + Matt's acting + this song = perfection.

VharGames You can hear parts of this song in the 11 doctors regeneration, also the lyrics the light cling to your bones (or something like that) is a reference to the yellow light (i forget the name of the stuff) that comes from regeneration.

We all change, if you think about it, we are all different people throughout our lives. And that’s good change is good you got to keep moving so long as you remember all the people you used to be. I will not forget this life. Not one day. I will always remember when the doctor was me...
This song was meant for the doctor... In the beginning this song was meant for a god that took the form of a red planet who was really just a parasite...in the end it was still very much meant for a god but this time a very different god, and his name is The Doctor...when Amy said “Raggedy man...Goodnight” the song says “wake up” referring to the doctor regenerating...the similarities are beautiful and only makes the song more beautiful

How come I thought this episode was the weakest of them all, yet it had the best soundtrack of them all. Just goes to show that you can't skip a Doctor Who episode because you'd be missing out on something just a tad bit interesting. Old and new, there is something just so special about this entire show. The actors, writing, music, or whatever, there is always something magical in each and every episode. Beauty.
How to watch this scene:
Step 1: Sit down
Step 2: try not to cry
Step 3: see Matt Smith crying
Step 4: Cry a lot

A small corner of youtube Uh, no....Most of the song is Infinite Potential.
Amelia! The first face this face ever saw...
This is perfect Christmas music.
I cry whenever I hear this!
Torrike Whittaker You should have said 'You Are Not Alone' lol
Jake Green omf noooo .3.
Emily Marie cheesy back then but now we know the reason qhy he said that
Well come onnnnnnn then, take it! Take it all!
Have it! You have it all!!
Reminds me of the Gridlock scene with "Old Rugged Cross".
it's so different to listen to that soundtrack without Doctor's speech. no matter what. it's aweosme. just love it :3
I Will Not Forget one Line of this -Matt Smith 2013
Budderboy600 Gaming not one day
This is my favourite from this series of music. A Murray Gold masterpiece.
OMIGOD YES! YES! I HAVE WAITED MONTHS FOR THIS TO BE RELEASED!
This piece of music is astounding!
Simply beautiful
Eternally sobbing at this song and the Eleventh Doctor's immense pain. I will be an inconsolable wretch on Christmas night.
This is the only thing that can make a stadium filled with aliens made from recycled costumes seem epic, cinematic and emotional
I've been waiting so long for this track to come out ... The first time I heard this I cried.
So stunning! This is just incredible and beautiful and should without a doubt accompany smith's regeneration at Christmas!!!
2:38 - 3:20 By itself, slowed down and pitched down along with a few SFX and an extension, perfect regeneration music!
This song always gives me CHILLS
Raggedy man... Goodnight, I nearly drowned in my own tears
I'm dead set on having myself cremated when the time comes and this is definitely the song I want to go out on.
This song gives me goose bumps all over.
"I saw the birth of the universe and I watched as time ran out, moment by moment till nothing remained, no time, no space, just me! I have walked in universes where the laws of physics were devised by the mind of a madman. I've watched universes freeze and creations burn. I have seen things you wouldn't believe. I have lost things you will never understand!"
"Rest now... my Warrior. Rest now, your hardship is over." Very fitting words for the Eleventh Doctor.
When I saw the trailer for Series 7B, and saw the second preview of this scene.
I really thought 11 was regenerating.
Love this song, thanks for uploading it, my life's complete now haha
(I haven't gotten here yet just my friend played me the song so no comments on what it's about plz but)
MY GOD THIS IS IT! I saw The Giver and thought the end sequence needed a more epic soundtrack- THIS WOULD DO PERFECTLY.
Makes my start to cry
I won’t forget one line of this, not one day, I will always remember when the doctor was me...
OH MY FISH FINGERS AND CUSTARD! thank you for uploading
This is the song that played when the doctor saw amy before he regenerated
Actually that was a song called Infinite Potential but it was similar
How come I thought this episode was the weakest of them all, yet it had the best soundtrack of them all. Just goes to show that you can't skip a Doctor Who episode because you'd be missing out on something just a tad bit interesting. Old and new, there is something just so special about this entire show. The actors, writing, music, or whatever, there is always something magical in each and every episode. Beauty.
This made me cry because this song remind me of his regeneration :C
