Thank you for the help! I’m an old school guy, and I’ve been greasing my excavators with a manual pump grease gun for 25 years . I finally broke down, and bought an automatic grease gun,but couldn’t figure out how to put a new tube into it! Thankfully guys like you are out there posting these videos because I was ready to toss this thing into the side of my garage!
Correct way is to remove battery pack, pull the rod by the handle all the way back and put it into the retaining slot to lock the rod in place, unscrew the barrel, load the new cartridge in, screw barrel back into grease gun, release rod and push back into barrel, prime the gun to purge air with the priming valve.
I had to run mine on continuous for a full minute before the grease ever made it to the purge valve. It’s new and that might change upon refills, but your way wouldn’t have worked for me. Not sure why the spring and plunger couldn’t push the grease up on its own without the aid of the motor.
Remember to prime the grease cartridge so the plunger slides into the tube easily. You will see how dry the cartridge end is when it is new. Rub some of the grease around the dry cardboard before inserting it into gun tube. This will ensure the plunger slides into the cartridge without resistance.
I don't think it's broken unless someone was too rough with it. It could be the way the tube of grease is installed or sometimes it catches a little bit and just needs to be wiggled.
I push 2-3 tubes thru mine a day as a PM mech for rental equipment. I'm just curious why you'd pull the plunger after removing the cartridge casing? I pull my plunger while it's still in the machine.
If the tube is empty then you could do it whenever. If you still have grease in the tube then you should probably pull the plunger before removing the tube so it does not continue to push grease out.
I think it's a good middle ground. If you wanted it smaller you could go with their M12 line. Other brands I have seen are significantly larger and more bulky.
The version sold in the UK sounds very different to this one and others I've watched on RUclips the clicking noise you spoke about is much much faster on yours
The model that I have is the M18 model which has two different speed settings (PSI ranges). There is also an M12 version that only has one speed setting I believe.
Try turning the handle/knob while pushing inward. Sometimes I have to do that to get mine to go back in. It must have some resistance or block when changing the cartridge.
Thank Scott - love my Milwaukee Grease Gun for working on my Jeep and I probably would have made a mess out of the cartridges change had I not watched this.
@@geraldsteele5559 Don't remember, whatever the going price was at Home Depot. Expensive, but worth every penny for some of the awkward areas I have to grease on the Jeep.
sam ochoa I am not sure that they come with grease. I purchased mine as a tool only so I know mine did not come with any grease. I also do not think they come with grease even in the kits unless specified. That way you can use whatever grease you want and I think that they have shipping restrictions on grease tubes also from my recollection of ordering grease online so it may not be as easy to ship with a kit. Hope that help! Thanks for watching!
I am not sure what you are asking. You can use any standard sized grease gun cartridge that you like as far as brand goes. It has to be the normal sized tube and not the miniature size that I have seen I dont think that is as common though.
I love the gun but can never seem to get the handle rod to simply go in after loading. It will feed inward as I use the gun. The Milwaukee rep looked at it and only said Huh? No help there.
Sorry to hear that. I dont have that issue and have not heard of anything like that. I know mine will not pump grease unless the plunger is pushed in. Make sure you have the grease cartridge in properly. It probably will not fit through the end where the aluminum cap is.
Mine won’t work unless the rod is pull out, if I push the rod in it will shot grease then air I’ll prime it shot grease again then stop shot air again Al this With a new tube of grease in there always been like that since new
I usually dont have an issue. I woudl try giving it a turn while pressing inward. Other than that I would check to see if grease tube is installed correctly. If the end with the metal cap like a soup can is the wrong way it is too small of a diameter for the plunger. Hopefully that helps!
Brand new out of the box mine pumped grease but made a terrible sound like gears grinding. If you are use to an air operated grease gun you WILL NOT BE VERY HAPPY WITH THIS UNIT OR I WAS NOT.
The instructions for this gun are no help. I had issues with it getting air cavitation and had to figure it out on my own. (Pump the shaft a bunch usually solves it) And also why the pump rod didn't want to go in half the time. (You have to rotate it until it finds its groove to slide back in.)
Ok any experts here please lmk about this.. please no criticism or sarcasm.. I do not understand “tool language “ this will be a gift for my bf he’s been wanting one forever... I’ve been online doing some research looking for any deals & reading reviews.... I keep coming by reviews asking what size grease tubes fit in an M-18 gun?? Some people are saying you can’t get tubes from the store to fit in them? Is this true??? And if so can you please explain what the truth is and where to get them??
False..all tubes are standard size. There are 2 sizes, standard and mini but mini is obviously not gonna fit in this tool. Btw,these are pretty pricey and I haven't seen any deals.im not a mechanic but I do lube my big rig, hope this helps.
If you go to any auto parts store or even Lowe’s and Home Depot you can definitely get a standard grease tube that will fit. There are different types of Grease. The only time that I have heard of custom fit grease tubes is when the manufacturer specifically designs them for their product. I am only aware of a few of those.
TIM from Canada... telling someone how to do it is not the same as showing someone how to do it... most of the videos on here are showing people how things are done... video was no help..
No they don't, and the instructions for this tool are worthless. They don't help you resolve when the tool gets air-locked or why the plunger rod won't always go back in after a tube change. I had to figure these out on my own.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. I am sure they are not much different. It just depends on what battery system you have. As well as what you need it for. Milwaukee does have the option for the M12 (slightly smaller) or the M18 so at least they have more than one option.

how much did you pay for it ?

If my plunger comes all the way and won’t go back in would you say it’s broken🙉???
I don't think it's broken unless someone was too rough with it. It could be the way the tube of grease is installed or sometimes it catches a little bit and just needs to be wiggled.
No, you have to rotate the shaft a bit as you try to push it in, at some point it will find it's groove and slide right in.

Scott where did you get the coupler for your grease gun? Mine (that came with the gun) is incredibly hard to remove from zerks.
The grease fitting is from Lock N Lube - amzn.to/3THe8gm
I like this Milwaukee. Pretty bulky but a good design. Thanks for the helpful video. Subscribed.
I think it's a good middle ground. If you wanted it smaller you could go with their M12 line. Other brands I have seen are significantly larger and more bulky.
So when I'm running it, grease is pumping out of that fitting hole where it would come out if I pressed the release valve?????
