    Thanks. I had already called Ninja OEM and since it was still in warranty period, they shipped me a new base unit. Once I saw your video, I figured I had nothing to lose. Bought 20ct capacitor pack and your recommended torx security set bits and went to work when they arrived. Made good progress until I got to second security torx screw in the deep well. Hole wasn't big enough to get screwdriver down to screw. Luckily, a friend had a set similar to allen wrenches and the T9 was able to reach. Made the repair (terrible at soldering) and reassembled. Plugged in and power light came. Pressed single serve button and now it's back in business. Again thanks so much and this video is still helping people out after four years.

    As the others have said.... thank you 👍. The Ninja was a gift and used 2 x then DEAD. No more Radio Shack to go to so Amazon to the rescue to get the 25V capacitors.... Working once again !
    And since it is basically a viariable speed "blender", the innards could have been simpler to control the speeds without the extra electronics.......

    It IS crazy to think how many may be in the trash, because of cheap caps. It seems like a nice blender but a lot of people have this issue with it according to reviews. I'm glad I seen this video because I purchased one of these new old stock and I suspect it may not last long before I have to do your fix here. I may even attempt it regardless knowing one day that cap will eventually fail. A good thing about this blender is it has a very simple pcb so even a beginner could replaced all of the capacitors on it easily.
    thanks again.

    Yes sir, so it happened I'm making my morning smoothie and i go to start the Ninja 1500 watt blender and nothing, I messed with it pressing the power button for all its worth and nothing, then the wife gets up and i say we are going to need a new Ninja, well the look on her face said fix it now, so I looked it up on RUclips and came accross your video. next I ordered a soder kit for $21 then ordered the the connector and figured why not right. so I start to take it apart and I then remembered you said something about the security screw and I was stumped because I didn't have that tool, So of course I did the next best thing and drilled that little sucker out. will I'm now back to my morning smoothie and it's thanks to your video. So thanks brother..

    This wasn't my exact problem, but this video was helpful for disassembly. My security torx was a size T-10 however, not a T-9. I went out to Lowes and bought some bits. They did not carry a T-9 security bit in the store, T-10 was the smallest, but it turned out to be the right one.
    My problem was that I was foolish enough to spray mine off with the kitchen sink spray hose to rinse it and I think water got into one or more switches. I took it apart and could not find any water inside, put it back together and it actually worked, even though I didn't "fix" anything. Probably just dried off and started working again. I did leave it lay apart overnight and that might have helped. I also worked the switches in and out quite of few times and that might have helped too. Moral of the story, just clean with a damp cloth like the manual says.

      @@DustinRogersinMO thank you!!! Was about to trash mine, then I decided to look if it could be fixed. Found your video and I have the exact same problem. Swollen capacitor! In your opinion, is 10v better than 6.3v?

    • @DustinRogersinMO
      @DustinRogersinMO  Год назад +1

      @@curiouskitten use whatever capacitor you have that has the same capacitance value and at least the same voltage value. A higher voltage value will hold up better, but are typically more costly (when buying millions for manufacturing), so the manufacturers typically go with the minimum spec/price components.

    Hi Dustin. Thank you very much, ours did the same, I found a second hand 10V 1000mf capacitor, and we have our Ninja working again, saving us about $300. AUD although we run 240V mains it was still the came capacitor, we just have another 2 large resistors on the board. Thanks again.

    Dustin, thanks for this video. I had a BL770 that I was fixing so in watching your video I was immediately suspicious of the electolytic caps (I continue to see bad electrolytic caps from the "Capacitor Plague" which just keeps on giving. )
    I did look at the 1000 uFarad 6.3 Volt but it was good. However the other two 100 uFarad 25 Volt electrolytics read open with my ESR meter and would have probably read open with a standard meter. They didn't blow out the top the way I'm used to seeing but leaked out the bottom where the leads enter the body so visually there was no clue but they were open. I replaced them and the 1000 uF as well since it was suspect. The board was acting normally. Power light would come on and the power buttons would light up as you change the power settings but no motor! In tracing the power flow through the two relays it suddenly turned on. Then I found that by tapping the board under the relays I could make it come on. So naturally thought "bad relay". There are two as you look at the bottom of the board with the 6 pins down. They are both Single Pole Double Throw. Naturally I unsoldered and opened up the left one and found it to be pristine! Then I opened up the right one and sure enough, badly burned contacts. The relay is a 12 Volt HF115F which is available on eBay. It needs to be the one with 8 pins however. Most I see are from China but I didn''t want to wait so ordered one from California off eBay. Here's the same one from Mouser: tinyurl.com/y2v3f2jw
    Uh oh just did some measurements and it's not exactly a perfect fit. So there's going to be some modding needed!
    So if you have a Ninja BL770 and all the lights work properly but doesn't run but runs if you bounce it it's probably this relay.

    I have the exact same ninja blender, almost 9 years old. Nothing wrong with it. I want to heavily modify it so that I can fine tune its speed control. It original has 3 speed controls. It has some sort of a chip (could be a micro-controller) at the center of the circuit board. I like how the manufacturer etched the labeling on the chip to prevent reverse engineering. But its no bigge, just need to cut open bunch of wires and connect it to a mini Arduino board and customize the programming for fine tuning its speed.

    Edit: This was a followup to a post I apparently posted under the wrong vid.
    Hmmm, maybe a little luck. I now realize that on my old one I was pushing the buttons harder and thought they were not making contact, feeling mushy , today I was more careful in checking and found the buttons although having some extra play, do still hit the board. So, maybe that unit might have the capacitor problem you showed us. I'm still hoping you might advise regarding my previous questions since once I get in there I will of course then have a more sure analysis.
    I just watched a repair post about a diferent unit and learned that my problem with the newer Ninja is the blade assembly in the single serve is rocking. The other optional mixing containers work fine, no wobbles, grinding or smell of electricity. Can't yet find the second single serve and can't remember if it had its own blade assembly cap.

    Hey Dustin, thanks for taking the time to make this video!! Question: Does the Capacitor have the ability to work sometimes and then wig out and stop the power supply until you toggle the power switch on the wall? That's what is happening to mine. I get a solid red power light, I press any of the buttons to blend and most of the time it starts blending then I get a total power-out. Toggle the wall power switch once and the Red power light comes back on and it repeats the same cycle. Occasionally it works and we get a full blend - but that is getting rarer now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    • @ernst6287
      @ernst6287 2 года назад +2

      If you have to turn the outlet switch OFF then back ON to make it work, it is more likely to be a capacitor's issue. Start with them, the big one first. Good luck

  • @richardsato4514

    Someone asked about the Varistor "small ceramic capacitor between the 2 wires and the yellow part". It's a 10S271K and available all over. I was unclear how they worked. This is from Wikipedia "Varistors are used as control or compensation elements in circuits either to provide optimal operating conditions or to protect against excessive transient voltages. When used as protection devices, they shunt the current created by the excessive voltage away from sensitive components when triggered."
    So it makes sense that it blew up. Might have also blew when it was plugged into 220 VAC. It does have a zig zag trace on the board.

    • @cramsey548

      This repair was for a dead (no power) unit. If your lights turn on, its probably not the same problem. Typically its a problem with the safety lock system. The lid has to be pushed down and base aligned correctly for the pins in the lid and pitcher to activate the safety switch in the base.

      The beauty of a repair like this, and most repairs actually, is that the item was destined for the trash anyway. You can’t hurt it anymore than it already is. If you mess up and are unsuccessful at fixing it, you’re only out a little time and a cheap replacement part, but you’ve potentially gained knowledge and a skill.

    Would the capacitor be relevant if the power LED lights up and some but not all of the buttons work?
    Pushing either Button #1 (Dough) or #2 (Blend) immediately shuts off the Ninja after spinning the blade for about 1 second. Other buttons #3 (Crush) and Pulse work OK.

      I’m not sure. Mine wouldn’t do anything at all, so yours has some other issue. It could be some other capacitor that is failing or it could be the switches themselves. It’d definitely be worth getting it apart to see if there’s anything obvious (swollen capacitors, cold solder joints at the switches, or loose wire connections).

      Potentially a different capacitor, but not sure. It’d be worth pulling apart to see if you see anything out of the ordinary.

    Ninja BL 490. I can’t figure out how to separate the upper part to access the motor. I was able to remove the bottom base with the specialty bit, but that’s how far I was able to get. Do you have any ideas how to access the motor?

    H i have ninja blander 1000 wattas but it not working . I opened it and found this little piece that I swapped out is broken and the size is 10v 470 uf , but I didn't find the same size. Can I replace it with a 16v 470 uf ???? please you can answering me

    • @DustinRogersinMO
      @DustinRogersinMO  3 года назад

      You should be fine replacing a 10v 470uf with a 16v 470uf. As long as the capacitance rating is the same and the voltage rating is equal or greater to the part being replaced.

    The link beneath the video for purchasing a replacement capacitor at Amazon takes us to an $8.99 version. Is it a mistake, or has the price risen that much since this video was posted one year ago? Thank you.

    • @DustinRogersinMO
      @DustinRogersinMO  2 года назад

      The link is to a set of 10 capacitors (89¢ each), which is about the only way you’ll find them sold unless you go to a local electronics supply store that has them available individually. Likewise, you can order direct from an electronics supplier like digikey or mouser and buy just one for 60 to 90 cents, but you’ll probably end up paying $7 in shipping/handling charges.

    Dustin: possibly the microswitch to internal cups is broken (not working cups) ...please let me know what is the series o model to buy and change? Thank you.

    • @DustinRogersinMO
      @DustinRogersinMO  3 года назад

      Not sure. You’ll have to remove the switch and try to find a comparable match. Ninja will not sell it separately. You’ll likely have to try to find it from digi-key or mouser

    • @DustinRogersinMO
      @DustinRogersinMO  3 года назад

      You can also try find the wiring to the switch or where it hooks to the control board and temporarily jump that connection to see if that gets it working again before you try to find a replacement switch.

    Nice work. I have a Ninja BL660 1100 W Pro and I use it everyday. Unit runs great except where the 'fan' mechanism ties into the cup blade is worn from my daughter putting PB in her smoothies. Worn on both the blender and cup side. If whatever is in the cup is too thick for the motor to spin, the blade is designed to 'skip' so the motor can continue to spin. So now everything spins but it doesn't connect to the cup blade. Has anyone replaced this? I refused to throw this blender out!

    • @DustinRogersinMO
      @DustinRogersinMO  3 года назад

      David Linder I have not searched for them, but I suspect that you’ll have to replace the cup itself. I’m not sure that they’ll sell the replacement coupler as it’s a sealed unit through the blend cup.

    I have a bl642w1 1500W I relocated and had not used it for over a year, plugged it in no power. Opened it moved around a few contacts and it came on but turns slowly then stops and powers off. Went back in and noticed the same exact capacitor was swollen, changed it but I'm still getting the same problem. I noticed a smell after it powers off wondering if it's the motor.

    • @DustinRogersinMO
      @DustinRogersinMO  3 года назад

      It's possible that it's the motor, but I'd check the blend cup to make sure that the shaft spins freely. It's possible that the shaft in the cup is bound up or sticky or something which could be straining the motor.
      Also, since you said you moved a few contacts and it powered up, I'd look for broken or cold solder joints on the circuit board and touch some fresh solder on those joints.

    • @dondagun
      @dondagun 3 года назад

      I looked at the solder points on the board they all look good. I ended up changing out all the electrolytic caps 2 more 100uf 25v but still nothing even though one looked like it had a leak at the bottom. Doing this from my dining table not the best setup to try tracing. It's definitely a power output issue, with the bottom cover off I can jump start the motor on the lowest speed with a quick spin but if I press a higher speed it chips out and powers off.

    I have the exact same blender but the capacitor looks okay no bulge or anything. Could it be faulty anyway? Nothing looks burned on the board

    • @DustinRogersinMO
      @DustinRogersinMO  3 года назад

      It’s possible that it’s the capacitor, but the only way to know for sure would be to remove the cap and test it with an esr meter ($$$) or solder in a new cap ($) and test it out. It’s a very common failure component, so there’s a good chance that’s the culprit, but I can’t guarantee it. I have seen capacitors fail that have no physical deformation.

      Darwin Maldonado I believe there is a switch that is actuated when the pitcher is locked in. I suspect that switch is not working properly. I gave this blender away, so I can’t verify that unfortunately.

    Do you think it capacitor works for the BL493 model? or where can I locate the voltage for it to properly replace the piece (if needed)?

    • @DustinRogersinMO
      @DustinRogersinMO  3 года назад

      I’m not familiar with any other models. I was just given this one to troubleshoot. The process of checking capacitors will be the same on any type of circuit board. If you find a bulging or leaking capacitor, you’ll need to replace it with one that has the same capacitance value and an equal or greater voltage rating. Most capacitors should be marked, although it may require a magnifying glass to see the markings depending on the size of the capacitor
