It appears only Corollas from the year 2003 onwards had changable cabin air filters,.....I looked in my 2001 Corolla and dont even have a screw on right side of glove compartment to do this procedure, and a few other sources have said before 2003 Corollas dont have any cabin filters that need to be replaced. If anyone can confirm this, that would be tops :)
You didn't show us the new one going in. How can we tell if you put it in correctly? Did it have up arrows or air flow arrows? You can't assume that your old cabin air filter was put in correctly and simply copy it. Air flow is NOT going up. Air flow is down. If you put the filter in with the air flow arrow pointing up then it's upside down. The ONLY time an arrow on a cabin air filter should point up is if it says "up" next to the arrow. All horizontally mounted cabin air filters with the blower motor mounted below the filter have downward air flow. Otherwise the blower motor would be full of dirt and debris. If it doesn't say up next to the arrow then the arrow indicates air flow direction and should point down. Another simple way to determine this is noticing how the dirt accumulates on top of the old filter which proves that dirty unfiltered air enters the topside of the filter and flows downward. Still not sure? Then remove the filter and turn on the blower. Then put your hand where the filter goes. Does it feel like it's blowing upward? Use a piece of string or tissue paper. They will be sucked downward. All the Toyota parts that say up on them have nothing to do with air flow. They are simply telling us which side goes up. So if your filter says "up" next to the arrow then of course it should point up. If it doesn't say anything next to the arrow (like on a WIX branded filter) then by default an arrow on an air filter indicates air flow direction. I've already emailed WIX to confirm this to be true.

A 2002 Toyota Corolla does not have a cabin air filter. Please re-title this video because it is false information.
