- Today I visit the final resting place of TV Star from On The Buses Reg Varneys Grave
Reginald Alfred Varney (11 July 1916 - 16 November 2008)[1] was an English actor, entertainer and comedian. He is best remembered for having played the lead role of bus driver Stan Butler in the LWT sitcom On the Buses (1969-1973) and its three spin-off feature films.

Reg was so much more than just his On the Buses…. He was a great actor and I was lucky enough to have met him a couple of times when I was younger….. on one occasion he was opening a pizza shop where I was hanging about, we hadn’t seen pizzas before so it was a big deal for us, I told him how much I loved watching him on the TV and we spoke for a few minutes, he had asked me if I was getting a pizza and I said I didn’t have the money to buy one after a few minutes chatting he then went back inside and came out about 20 minutes later with a few boxes of pizza and gave them to us and told us to “enjoy”…. I saw him again a few years later while walking down Enfield high street and he recognised me and stopped and said hello, asked me what I was up to and if I had bought any pizzas since we last met…. He was a lovely guy…. Thank You Reg…!

Who didn't like On the Buses? Proper Carry-on style slap & tickle comedy. A genre sadly missing today.

I met Reg in about 1968 when he was playing golf in a pro/ celebrity golfing match. He was playing with Dai Rees the professional golfer and Stanley Baker the actor . It was all for charity at Shirley park golf course and I seem to remember he was an accomplished golfer! Lovely man .

Great video Paul..my mum was in a nursing home with Stephen Lewis in Wanstead,east London.when on the buses came on the telly his face would light up and he would sit there smiling,he’d had a bad stroke and couldn’t talk but you could see the fondness in his face..you should do a video on him.

I live in the town not far from the grave. Never knew where it was so thanks for finding it. Shame it's so low key to the point of not even having his name on the headstone. Reg used to drink in the Feathers pub in the town and had his favourite seat by the front windows. RIP Reg.

Reg lived in Edmonton, north London when I was a kid. Saw him a couple of times but never really knew who he was back then! My Hubby loves On the Buses!
