My first visit to Paris was in August, and I had a fantastic time even with the frustration of local places being closed. I wouldn’t choose August for subsequent visits, but there’s never really a bad time to visit Paris. I think the biggest downside is that airfares and hotels are more expensive in July and August.

August is nice. Maybe late August is the best kept secret. It does feel different. Somehow quieter seems more intimate. Mid/late July was definitely crowded when I was there. May is nice but rainy January is a bit challenging. But, as the old classic song says, I love Paris winter, spring, summer and fall! Cheers

The first time I went to Paris was in early August. We knew about the vacation schedule, but decided it would be fine. And it turned out great! Some things were closed, but enough was open and we had a wonderful time. We were even able to get into the Louvre without a wait! And yes, the Louvre was quite warm inside! Some areas were a tiny bit cooler than others, but not much 😅

I'm already planning to be in Paris in August, so this was just what I needed. I'm going to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo first, and since that's only in August, I didn't have a choice. There's also Paris Plages, which is only in summer. I'm looking forward to seeing that. I didn't think about the A/C issue. Thanks for the heads up. I'm not keen on so many shops being closed, but as long as L'Eclair de Genie is open, I'll be OK.

I don't think he SHOULD do anything, but if you want to pay less money in Paris, think about the things that are free. The many parks for example. If you will get your food in a supermarket it won't cost as much. We like to buy bread, cheeses, some fruit and a bottle of wine and just sit next to the river of Canal and have a picnic. You can go to the parks, they have chairs, bring your lunch or drinks with you and enjoy people watching. Monuments you can look at and don't need to get a ticket to (like the tower, the arc, etc), or take the city bus tour that will show you many things for a reasonable price. If you buy a city pass then you can get your public transportation and museum entrance for a lower price as well.
There are many affordable places to eat as well, you just need to stay away from the crowded areas, look for Plat de jour (that's the more affordable dish). Things like that.
And above all- travelling is a privilege.

I just have to say that I can't help but notice your new additions to your wardrobe. Lookin' good in the hood (as they say). On August in Paris---there are some advantages. The small museums (think Rodin) are less crowded than usual. For restaurants that are open, a lot of tourists, especially Americans, tend to eat at earlier hours. If you eat later the restaurants are less crowded because locals are en vacances. If you are also in Paris for the first week or 2 of September you can contrast "empty" Paris & post La Rentree Paris.

Thanks for your videos Jay. I appreciate that you reply to a lot of comments. I am visiting Paris with my girlfriend in August 21-27th. We are planning to visit Eiffel Tower area then stay a few nights in Marais. While finalizing our plans, we ran into some problems booking reservations at some of our top list restaurants and realized this “August closing” phenomenon. I had no idea. And as I researched it was confirmed. That led me to your video about this. Which triple-confirms it. We are disappointed and are thinking about paying hundreds of dollars to change our flights and come during the first or second week of September instead. I’m totally conflicted on what to do. We are concerned that the really great restaurants and small shops won’t be open and our experience will be ruined 😢. We can’t find “non-tourist restaurants” that look good to book dinner at. Will Marais be totally dead and boring? Are there any great restaurants you can recommend in August? Would like to know your thoughts….
