I have noticed that flamenco has striking similarities with indian classical dance called "katthak". The difference is that in katthak , dancers wear bells or anklets in their feet instead of shoes
Hi Lisha, wow 😱 thank you for letting us know this new rhythm, it's amazing to see how all the dance styles have a lot of influences from many worldwide places, so we can see many similarities in various of them, Flamenco has a strong influence by gypsies and in this one and others like the katthak, the Belly Dance and others, our body using some props creates the dance and also the music on the performance 🤗

I recommend watching the movie/documentary Latcho Drom (1993). It is extraordinary, and show the Gipsy culture travelling through eurasia, from its birth in India, to its settling in Spain. You'll see the évolution of Indian danse to Flamenco.
There are some clips on RUclips.
The gypsy dance has its roots in Persian culture (hint: the pathos of Flamenco songs is of Persian origin). It traveled to some parts of India where the local folk culture adapted its story telling art, thus, the name Katthak, a teller (of epic stories). It settled in Spain where a similar dance already existed.
The reason both Katthak and Flamenco share the same beat has its origin again in Persian gypsy culture.
I learned in Spain that Flamenco has its root in India 😱😍 the gypsies traveled through different countries until they got to Spain and incorporated many cultures influences into the dance 💃

Nice lesson!! Although I would've added the "punta" movement, which consists in lifting one foot and then steping on the floor with the toes, into the basic ones list.

I have a foot issue on my right foot, that prohibits me from wearing any kind of elevation. So, I can't wear any kind of heels more than about 1/2 inch. In the past, I have just found a sturdy, barely heeled shoe like a 'mary jane' with a strap across the top of the foot. Does that sound workable?
Hi @MariamWeed ! Thank you for contacting us. Regarding the shoes, the most important is to follow your doctor's advice on what is best for you. Flamenco shoes always have a strap across the top of the foot, to make sure they are attached to the feet. As long as you are comfortable in the shoes you have, you can use them to take our Flamenco classes.
