Your guide to how Episode 3: Heresy works.

- episode 3 heresy is actually much simpler to comprehend than that of episode 2. no tonics, no tons of materials, unlocking potions... just hop into the activity and get to some grinding. thoughts might be either after the health regen adjustments or after we get all of act 1.

I wanted the cannon cutscene where the guardian eager edges to the court of oryx and does a consecration slam saving Eris
So brave my god please
My guardian shatterskating past the subjugator only to freeze midair then shatter dive into the ground and start slapping bro with ergo sum
So brave, so bold.
The people being mad at Bungie for the Sag-Aftra strike are wild. I get it sucks not having voice lines, but Bungie is doing the right thing by standing by the striking actors and not using scab work for the lines.
You know some people in this community have 1 brain cell and think “bungie bad” so I’m not surprised people are blaming them.
I'm not blaming Bungie but I still think something else could have been done because I keep missing the subtitles because the pop up during huge fights or sometimes even while I'm in orbit and messing with the my character. I would really appreciate a noise (like maybe a ghost beep) to tell me when the subtitles are there
Bruh I've seen people saying they should use AI and that they already are using AI and its mind numbingly stupid when the entire movement of this strike is to avoid crap like that.

as solo player who craves harder content i actually love the healing reduction when solo, it make the game play so much different and makes selecting boons so much more interesting knowing it is more of a determent if i misplay
Same, it almost had the feeling of a solo dungeon which is awesome
I usually feel the same, but the weak VISUAL feedback and general low potency from dedicated healing builds like a controlled demo with bubble overshields.
I'd much rather get SHREDDED in a GM from a champ vs. being in a war of attrition against 50 ads and feeling helpess as I can't heal for that a couple of pixels of health
I think is more of a feeling challenged vs feeling helpless kinda thing for me
The healing reduction doesn't actually matter though, you just get healing from picking up fonts of light, instead of doing whatever you normally do, but there's so god damn many fonts of light, and some of them fully heal you anyways.
i agree completely. it completely changes how i need to approach the game, and for the first time i actually feel somewhat scared going into specific encounters. it's such an awesome feeling that matches the ominous nature of the dreadnought.
Honestly true. I will say, the first nether run is kinda painful, but that's because of how different you have to think and act
Datto blocking out the small text but leaving the title text is perfect! LOL
Having the ability to run around solo and explore this spooky ghost ship is awesome. Very “Dead Space” meets “Event Horizon.”

Soloing the Nether is the most fun i've had with a seasonal activity in a LONG time.
I want this to have a conversational tone. Why do you like it so much? I enjoy regular nether, but doing it solo I find very frustrating. I make it further on advanced nether with a team then nether explore. I find that the enemies do way too much damage for one player and clearly were balanced for a team of three. But that's just my take. What's yours?
I’ve been playing Nether on Arc subclasses and it makes a world of difference. Arc is balanced around doing a ton of AoE clearing without having to rely on healing. If you delete the room before they have a chance to damage you much, then the few healing orbs that drop from enemies are more than enough to make up for the damage you take.
Geomags + delicate tomb + lightning surge arc lock goes hard
thats not the flex it's meant to sound.
@@Davidstock-tv1lv Outside a couple of outliers, strand subjugators mainly, enemies do about as much damage as they should. That is, enough to eventually kill you if you have no healing, but not nearly enough to even be a consideration if you do have healing. Which the fonts of light give you aplenty.
@TheKakarikoCucco it's not a flex, I'm just saying I'm having fun, the Nether isn't a difficult activity.
Another note, you can get sigil shards and episode vendor rep from other activities. Enemies will occasionally drop little taken balls that when shot, drop pickups that give you vendor xp and sigil shards
The strike is due to the use of Ai by game companies without compensation to the voice actors.
Really loved the opening mission, immediately more interesting than anything in Episode 2 to me. Great video, Datto!
I love the volatile rounds artifact perk, i just rebuilt the old wavesplitter meta from back when

As a solo player, the Nether content is really fun but also frustrating at some points. Thankfully I main Crimson and a Volatile Rounds build which is helpful.
I also really enjoy the matchmaking arena version. I did the solo version first so jumping to multiplayer felt like a breath of fresh air. The content overall I think is great.
Does Crimson really heal you fir a significant amount? I almost did the same build, but I took an all volatile build with the titan glaive and saint 14 helm instead. Controlled demo volatile explosions didn't really heal me that much and void overshields don't give you a decent chuck right away. It trickles on like a shitty healing rift
@ I’m a Nightstalker Hunter with Gyrfalcons and Recluse; Crimson is great if you consistently get headshots without getting hit yourself
I just wish they made a noise effect of some kind to like make grab your attetion. Like i feel like im missing story tid bits cause im mid fight or something. Basically something to catch my attetion
If you really want to just progress the Tome of Want quest, there is a Named Curse Thrall in the court of oryx area that for some reason is spawning infinitely. As a powerful enemy in the seasonal activity it gives you 6 percent per kill and can be killed pretty quickly with as a duo or trio. I expect it'll be patched cause its just a stupid way to get loot from the tome but for the sake of just finishing the quest, its what i did
Do you want to know what to do with him? Because I figured him out.
@@Dranguinidae_Opalux I have no idea, he just kept re spawning. killed him 7 times and left him alone.
@ Details below:
Basically he's ravenous right? So I lead him to the hive worms in the next room, which he then ate, and turned into an acolyte. Lead him to the *_next_* room and there are more worms, which he'll eat and become a knight, at which point he can be killed. It was pretty cool cause its the first time I've truly discovered something like that myself.
FYI at 6:58 Datto mentions floating Savathûn sigils around the Dreadnought. This also includes sigils of Xivu Arath AND Oryx. Look out for their sigils too for their own dialog.
Retired from Destiny, but I enjoy following along via your content
Love to see SAG-AFTRA winning. Glad they’re on strike and management is feeling the pain.
They will probably fire them and move on to people who want to work
@@jimmcmeen761 who are you even talking about right now

@@matthewjobin6665 sorry I was kind of being sarcastic but I think it’s an industry wide strike and not just at Bungie? Bungie doesn’t use A.I. voiceovers but not sure. Hopefully they get it figured out
@ it is industry-wide. But still, we know Bungie’s management is dogshit and treats their workers like expendable tools.
I like hard content. I’m not 100% sure if nerfing heals is the best way to do it. But I appreciate bungie trying something new
Exactly I luv the idea but it needed more tuning cuz bungies sandbox the past few years has been designed around self healing. And just snatching that away while keeping the sandbox the same does not work lol… Ala 100s of flying dreads raining hell on you
I love that i havent played d2 since final shape but i still watch every dato destiny video😂 its not even me being like “oh tf is bungie messing up now” just love dato🖤 keep up the amazing vids
Datto was finally able to pronounce metastasized
I hope that once we return to seasons we don’t have anymore exotic missions as part of the main quest.
I really enjoyed the new mode. I felt like the health changes really shook gamplay for me and actually pushed me to use the new support auto to help keep my friend alive as she was running a devour warlock build and was so used to being at full health all the time. I felt like the healing orb are plenty common to keep you alive if you engage in content. That being said i was using a combination blow hunter build and i think the healing on that is not nearly as reduced as devour, cure, or healing rifts are. I think if they tune the healing on certain stuff up just a bit and more people start specing into them, people will really find the system engaging.
I also really enjoyed the boons and it felt a lot more interesting to engage with than say boosted artifact mods. I got major boons that gave amplified on sprint and another that gave bolt charge on sprint that release on melee and in combination with my combination blow prismatic build it felt really interesting and a good shake-up of things without the hassle on micro-managing dozens of tiny effects.
Im also a fan of the switch-up of the Taken's abilities. Its cool having to relearn how to engage these enemies and figure out some of the new abilities they have as well.
The only things i do hope get addressed really are the healing values as-well as hopefully adding voice over for the missing dialogue if theyre able to with the strikes. Me and my friend were having fun doing the voicelines for the missing dialogue but i would like to experience it as intended (if possible)
The nether Is actually wild I am loving the activity, it's the first time I have used crimson in a while.
Nice! Hadn't thought of that!
I'm annoyed that, in order to prep for the season and make space in my vault, the few unrelenting weapons I had I deleted 😳💀
Woulda really come in clutch about now….
Kinda exposes a fundamental flaw in how this game - a LOOTER shooter - actually works…..
I went into Nether blind solo last night. Took me way too long (85mins) because I was just exploring. But I really enjoyed the experience even on a bad build. I like this one
No healing is bad when you have to destroy blights
8:16 it also can give ascendent shards and the exotic crafting materials that I can’t seem to remember the name of
So far I like Heresy. The story has been more engaging (keeping in mind i loved the concept of revenant) than last episode or the one before. The Nether was incredibly fun on a first playthrough, and I'm eager to see how much faster I can do it alone, but I worry that I won't find it very repeatable, as it was with onslaught last episode.
I think people being mad at the this episode are just looking for attention, bungies effort for this episode is really impressive and far better than revenant i know its only been 1 day but the whole vibe seems different and im pretty impressed.
Or, and this is just a crazy idea...not everyone shares the same opinion as you. Discounting criticism as whining or complaining helps about as much as the whining and complaining
Im not the only one saying it thou mate
@@SkxnnyGamingOnYT Doesn't matter how many people say it, mate. Even if everyone in the community but me shared the same opinion on this season, it wouldn't change the fact that whatever we disagree on isn't just "whining and complaining"
Right but my point is that most of the people complaining recycled content and that its a washed game, havent even bothered to load it up and try it and havent for the past 5 seasons. Yet every season that comes out they have something to say about it without actually logging on and playing then create arguments in comments they have no business commenting or talking about.
@@SkxnnyGamingOnYT Recycled content has been part of the game since its inception. How many different Suros handcannons do we have that all look mostly the same? How many different Hakke sniper rifles look almost exactly the same? Those weapons we got in season of the deep? Just Gambit weapons with a Taken coat of paint. For the past five years pretty much only raid weapons had unique weapon models and sometimes even them were reused. That would be a legitimate complaint about reused content
First time I've actually felt a seasonal activity has hit the mark in terms of difficulty. Everything prior has been able to just stroll in with white armor and clear it under 10 minutes, but now it actually feels like actually using proper builds & loadouts is actually viable for once, which gives them so much more usage outside of niche cases in raids/gms.
Remember deep dives and coil I feel like these are the best activities because I actually have to use my brain towards the end of the run
3:09
yeah the run I did solo for the story quest was a little dicey, especially getting the Boss Tormentor in the middle. I usually use Mothkeepers to help with survival, but the shield from the moths was basically nothing even with both moths giving OS. I definitely see myself pivoting to Unrelenting/Red Death/Heal Clip on future runs.
Crimson has been working great for solo runs!
I didn't like Nether at first because I couldn't use my Devour titan build super effectively. But it made me try out Strand and Arc again after a long time, and those have been crazy effective. I know Prism will have better effectiveness probably because of Knockout access but. I have been sick of consecration slams for months.
I’m loving the no healing fr
My only real issue is how useless healing rift/pheonix dive feel, it seems a bit overtuned. Warlocks having 2 of their 3 class items being just useless sucks.
What do y’all think rent is like for the seasonal vendor area? That’s shits right on the water so probably at least 40k silver a month
Finally a good Season again
i think this is the first activity since the coil that i can replay over and over and not get bored of it
Tempted to run threadrunner or revenant and eager edge just to get around faster - some of the areas are nice and small though which is good
on-demand amplify is good too
@ yesss amp, bolt charge sprint and the finisher/class ability heals are musthaves
4:55 can we get the outtakes on Datto pronouncing Metastasized? I've still been trying to get it down lol
BRO, KNOCK OUT WAS WORKING NORMALLY THIS WHOLE TIME?!?!
My try hard ass was using off meta controlled demo/ healing volatile rounds with saint 14 super and glaive bubbles
Should have figured brain dead titan punch and synthos slam was still the ultimate solutiom
You could also use unrelenting on a weapon, or crimson
I don't think I've ever had less fun than trying to solo the blight bubble Tormentor solo, especially with most of the healing sources being completely bugged. This is really just proof nobody at Bungie playtests their own game.
Considering this is one of the first things you have to do this season, I can see casual players running into this and straight up quitting the season. Considering how dire a state the game currently is in it just feels like we're accelerating in a downward spiral for this game.
Why didn’t Eris and Drifter use Stasis? Are they stupid?
Her "death" seemed pretty stupid. I don't follow the lore but didn't she turn into a worm god and kill that xivu arath character or something a few seasons ago? I don't think she's "dead" but I just laughed when she got taken out by a little grunt tormentor guy. Like come on.
They can't use something that doesn't exist. Stasis does though
@@TheAdjuster1eris basically expended all of her hive god power to banish xivu arath. After season of the witch she returned to her normal self and power
The no healing has to go makes me not even want to play it
This is genuinely the most fun I've had with a seasonal activity, full stop.
Lumina works as well, and i believe boots of the assembler work as well but it mightve been my teammate doing something to self heal
1:10 knockout aspect FTW
1:58 That sounds oddly familiar to the posted list on the Bungie forums. Do you go there every now and then?
Great guide thanks!
7:20 they already have the warlock subclass screen pose for a taken subclass... new subclass in Frontiers? (Definitely not copium)
2:18 while likely true, there's probably some that could use a tune up. Ran a solo nether last night and decided to use Alpha Lupi because I really wanted to build into the arc barricade.
Turns out Alpha Lupi is so bad it basically has no perk in the mode, so I swapped to the missile chestpiece.
Same with speakers sight and the healing auto they basically do nothing why use them
Devour, cure, restoration, orbs of power healing, support frames. All of them do not work at all right now and I hope to god it's a bug because being forced into that kind of playstyle is just not fun.
The only thing this activity needs is an exclusive exotic that only can drop randomly from playing and completing it.
There’s a chance that weird smg might end up being part of this
It won’t let me advance past step five
I like how at 0:24 the names in the text are censored but the title isn’t
Finally, my guide has arrived

I hate how any new difficulty bungie puts in the game the comunity hates, which them make so that any new weapons and actvities pick up buffs are worthless because of how powerfull we are , I wish bungie would ignore the community sometimes
No one told Bungie to design an activity where devour, restoration, cure rifts, healing grenades were all negligible. The coil and onslaught were community favorites and didn't involve quirky modifiers. It's very simple, high density and unique encounters= Happy community. Just because some of bungie's ideals suck doesn't mean it's the community's fault
@@kcisthe1st you're right, this community is simple
the healing being fully negligible is what i have an issue with. only crimson will work every now and again. i’m not saying they need to uber buff but give us SOMETHING.
@@kcisthe1stit’s the community’s fault for being so incapable of playing the game without 24/7 healing that they have psychotic breakdowns when they can’t use it. You guys wouldn’t have lasted 5 min in Destiny years ago before everybody got perma healing
@@kcisthe1st ideals? what are you on about? it's a game mode not some movement. The changes to healing in Nether aren't even that difficult to play around, take the time to actually play the mode what so ever and you'll find out you have options. The quest even states "failure expected" the whole thing is meant to be a challenging activity and having mass healing would legit defeat its entire purpose. To say "it's very simple, high density and unique encounters= Happy community" is dumb as hell also because you know damn well no matter what bungie did the community would be pissed because its all the community can do. Maybe heals could be bumped but to have them function at the level they usually do would legit undermind and rip apart the entirety of what the mode is based on: resource management.
"Where does the coalesence go?"
My mind when i see the image:👀
I think the healing is reasonable. And group mob fights. The thing that feels out of whack for me is how much damage bosses seem to do in the nether. Reduced healing and buffed up health and they still hit like a truck with the usual slew of aggressive homing projectiles and splash damage. Seems like they made it this way just to be a res token sink and not because it's fun. Probably more reasonable in a group but solo even on explore mode the bosses just wreck your shit.
"get to grinding" is not the rallying cry i want to hear about destiny anymore
I’m pretty sure my coalescence went to the statue in the room with all the chests so I would be allowed to open one.
Paul Tassi would noooot stop bitching about this new activity, holy shit. Dudes allergic to any kind of new challenge. Shit was fun and really not a problem once you get some of the nether minor boons
Sadly a lot of people in the community likes paul trashy. 🤮
no one likes paul tassi
Who?
He’s a journalist we all know journos can’t play games
He is actually correct I'm afraid... Uninspired activity and same old gameplay with nothing novel.
Btw, theirs a chance when you kill enemies a taken orb drops, shooting it make sigils drop
So do we get the dreadnought as an explotable space ?
Is the exotic boss farm room still a thing like from D1??
The double perk and adept weapons are different. You can get a double perk adept, but you can also get a single perk adept or double perk non adept
I wouldn't do another run of this if someone paid me.
I almost wonder if the nether was intended to go on far longer than 3 “rooms”. I haven’t fully explored but I have never had more than 3/10 on a certain buff. Perhaps next act
I haven’t watched the full video yet so forgive me if this question is touched on but why do normal weapons drop with double perks in each column but yet I’ve gotten adepts with just 1 in each column doesn’t make sense.
Looks like there is three levels of rarity and they can overlap.
There is Masterworked with double perks, Shinies, and Adepts.
So you can get adepts with single or double perks. Shinies with one or two perks. You can get adepts shinies with one perk, and if u are extra lucky all three.
Because there’s “shiny” versions of both weapons for some reason
Whats the difference between The Nether and The Nether: Explore?
My guide! I was looking for that!
Ngl the new activity its pretty tedious, not hard but damn it gets boring really quick. The no heal its pretty annoying but it doesn't add much else really, but if they wanted to nerf us just grow some balls and do that with the healing sources across the board (I know, that would mean a larger rebalancing so not a chance you see this in a season).
Also I don't really understand why they didn't make the usual short version for story, since feels like 90% of their playerbase doesn't give a sh!t about rouge likes. Most of the time I run this everybody goes to orbit after just the first boss, so it makes you ask for who this activity is made for, if so many dont bother even playing it past the first round.
All in all seems better than the other episodes but I bet in 2 weeks time (if that) all the D2 doomers will just get back to the usual "game ded" grind
The shrieker in the mausoleum gives loot for the coalescence, not health
Enjoying the Nether, but how do you know when you can leave and keep all your materials?
We you defeat all three bosses and it has the mission end prompt.
@ thank you!
Ohh the dialogue is a strike thing. I just assumed it was a bug so I was going to wait for the fix.
If you look closely at the shape of the Coalescence items, you can definately tell where they go....
Unfortunately, this community hates any sort of challenge, variety, or anything interesting so I’m sure Bungie will boost healing to normal levels by the time the episode is over.
if they do that I will scream
As long as they dont activate normal hp regen, we should be aight we could just NOT use copious amounts of healing
Preventing ALL forms of healing in favor of a single activity based form of healing is not variety. Melee builds with damage resistance and crowd control are thriving because the fonts of light spawn on you. Anything longer range is forced out of cover to get health, and if you retreat when you are completely out of health, you just have to kill yourself or get lucky with a pot, it's not a very interesting gameplay loop to kill yourself for health.
@@snottytoe6957Why can’t you continue to down enemies from a distance until they drop a font?
@@travousbieber3939 You can, but then you have to come out of cover to get the fonts which are usually where the enemies are and that also means leaving the objective to go for the health. Melee centered builds that just let the enemies come to you means less danger, and so a lot of builds just suffer right now.
SAG-AFTRA Strike? Bro they're called vanguard ops.
Destiny 2 team tweeted they overtuned the health as healing builds no longer work. Next tuesday a fix be out.
Nether solo was VERY fun but it took me an hour and a half lol
Rip solo players
I feel as if the Nether is fine in difficulty. If Bungie truly wants a fix, maybe they could scale the healing debuff based on fireteam size.
so the tome of want doesnt work if you dont put the essence of desire in it?
yes. The essence of desire is basically just the currency you pay to activate it.
@@snottytoe6957 ahhh shucks, was too good to be true ok thanks

Episode 3: Graviton Lance
small complaint but I wish bungie mentioned in the in-game popup that this was a result of the SAG-AFTRA strike. With the narrative around Bungie dropping the ball so often(whether or not it is actually attributable to developers at Bungie or is a result of layoffs or other external forces like the strike), I'm sure plenty of people will only see the popup and level their ire at Bungie. And while it stings to have such an important, impactful episode (so far) be missing spoken dialogue, Bungie is clearly taking the high road here compared to other options like hiring scabs or using AI (which Call of Duty has begun using and is a big red flag for me)
I’m stuck on step 5 of the quest
I need help with step 11. I don’t understand what to do

Unrelenting goes crazy in this place, keep a roll or two folks
So I've been out of the loops, is D3 coming next or does anyone know?
I got the bow this morning which isn't supposed to drop yet. Weird.
As the player who always plays the healer in games and *enjoys* it, I'm unsure of how much I'll like the Dreadnaught if my tools are not effective enough - I'll have to test it to see, but I'm afraid of this episode becoming a pass for me because of it.
They made whole nether have presence of Crota
Anybody else seen the Blight in the Nethet that's seems to infinity spawn enemies?
After clearing several waves it will spawn the small, black buffs you can pick up.
I can't tell if you're supposed to break the blight or keep defeating enemies. It lasts a long time, a good five ore more minutes just killing enemies it spawns and I've never been able to break the blight
Yeah you just shoot the blight and it spawns a miniboss
I really wanna play it but im not ready to get attached to something that's leaving come next expansion again.
