  • This video shows key moments and highlights from the 21st IESE Energy Industry Meeting at the Madrid campus of IESE Business School.
    In the video, Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo, associate professor of decarbonization at IE Business School, emphasizes the importance of managing the pace of the energy transition, warning that rushing into it without proper preparation can lead to burnout and resistance.
    Rafael Mateo, CEO of Acciona Energría, told the audience that, in his opinion, the speed of a transition can't be a choice of the affected industries' incumbents. He also stated that we should see the energy transition as an investment rather than a cost, emphasizing the need for clear targets, well-defined ideas, and public support for building new energy infrastructures.
    Cristina Lobillo Borrero, Director of the EU Energy Platform and International Relations, stresses the need to focus on the competitiveness of European industry in the energy transition.
    Lluís Noguera, Global Head of Renewables Development at Brookfield and CEO at X-Elio, notes that Europe has clear targets and well-defined ideas, but getting the details right is taking a long time.
    Oliverio Álvarez, partner responsible for Energy and Ressources at Deloitte Spain and co-organizer of the Meeting, emphasizes the need for public support for the energy transition and the importance of involving rural communities.
    Mariano Bacigalupo, professor of Energy Law at UNED, acknowledges the benefits of renewable energy generation but highlights the need to encourage demand and address the challenges of network investment.
    Juan Luis López Cardenete, IESE professor and academic director of the Meeting, notes the importance of managing public opinion and avoiding oversimplification of the energy transition, acknowledging that there will be sacrifices and challenges.
