And what a ride! This may be the most dramatic elevator ride I've been on yet! The noises, the shakes, this thing really feels like a death trap.
More videos from LA with Alpaljl are coming, but this is the only one with ESP.

The transition from the "no" to the death trappiness of this elevator almost made the video feel like the origin story of a supervillain called Schindler. Hilariously enough, I honestly couldn't help but compare alpalJL to Darth Vader at the end of Star Wars Episode III in my head! 😂

(3 Nov 2019) Rode an Otis series 1 hydraulic to-day and it was a friggin Death trap. The doors kept opening and closing, and I called that condition "Doorepeadosis". Located at 303 Kirkland Ave, Kirkland WA

I can tell before reading or watching anything that this is at Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, when I rode this in January, it was really smooth and good condition.
It's already fixed.

VERY late comment to an old video, I know. But I used to constantly rewatch this video out of fascination!
I think the cause of this issue is lack of oil/lubricant on the hydraulic piston. I experienced severe rumbling on an older MontgomeryKONE hydro before, and it acted similarly to this.
The scraping when leveling going up points to my notion of the cause. A lot of people claim it's a guide rail or guide wheels/rollers, but the squeaking being caused by that just doesn't make sense to me.
Still very bizarre, but it is very unfortunate we lost this store out of relevancy. I would've loved to ride this if this store was still open.
This reminds me of the parking garage elevators at Roosevelt Field in Garden City, NY when they were running badly! Those might have been worse though. I wonder if this elevator will still be this way next time I go to this area, but I assume it will get fixed.
2:30 Would it have ran with the hoistway doors open that far? I don't think they should be able to open that far.
It's already fixed. I came back since we shot this video. The doors should not open that far, but that was another issue too.
Gotten worse with WI Siren And Elevators filmed it. But that's your fine example of a typical Schindler quality!
After he filmed it it got better. Then this happened.

That's no elevator. It's an unbalanced dryer. How has that not failed inspection?
ESP said it has only acted like this for under one week. Within one week of filming this, I came back again and it's fixed already...

Hmm.. Seems like the indicator above the lift is showing advanced position but the one on the button panel is showing exact postiton.
Also this is the worst hydraulic i have ever seen.

the elevator is just fine.it has a lubricant problem with the tube and its connection and when it goes to slow speed(and its only 2 stops which means the speed doesnt go to high speed almost at all) it does this noise.
No, it has completely lost or broken one of its guide shoes. But where is its protection circuit???

Nope, just San Diego and Los Angeles. I'm in Arizona right now, and will probably head back to San Diego soon to catch a flight home.

I know of a vintage elevator near San Diego (Coronado). It is a gated Otis elevator, at the Hotel Marisol Coronado. I also know of some vintage elevators in Arizona, but I don't know which parts of Arizona you are visiting.

No, the one I am talking about is a different one. There is also a gated elevator at Glorietta Bay Inn, but I think it only serves 1 room (I asked for permission to ride it, and they said that someone was staying in that room, but if I go there when no one is staying in that room, then they would show me the elevator). Another gated elevator (this one has been filmed before) is at the Ramada Gaslamp in San Diego. The Plaza Hotel in San Diego has a manually-controlled Otis elevator, but another elevator enthusiast I think was told to leave the building when he went there (it is not a hotel, it is an apartment building).
THIS THING IS HORRIBLE! It needs to be fixed or modernized desperately!
I don't like modernization but that one needs modernization and needs to get fixed.

And by the way, I found a Schindler elevator that broke the stereotype of the door close button not working on it. It's at this new apartment building I'm staying at for a few months. Brand new building, and the door close button actually works on the Schindler 330 YAY elevator they have there. Being that it's new, it runs very well. You really have to give the floor buttons a good press though. Otherwise, it's a nice elevator.
I've found one or two Schindlers with working door close buttons too, but they are very rare.
+thewildeeper I rode one today that had a working door close button... But it only works after a certain amount of time. Like if the door has been open for over 5 seconds, the door close button will work. If the door has been open for less than that amount if time, the button is disabled to allow slow folks to enter.
+TheAmazingFlyingScotsman 60103 interesting. I bed the G&P elevator would be running like a charm to this day, as that was when elevators were made to actually last and work well.
