This song still brings me to tears. When I was a little girl I saw a bunch of stuff I shouldn't have seen. Music was my only escape. I didnt want to be a musician but I needed somebody to just say what I was dying to say. Then I heard this song. I cried because it captured everything I was going through. It still makes me cry like a baby. I'm out of that situation and have been for ages now but the scars are still there. Im not into hip hop much but this song helped release the frustration I had. Listening to it now I can't believe what I've overcome. I'm all grown up and graduating from law school, aiming towards a PhD and a big family. I'm gona make sure my kids never see what I saw.
+KaizerMan akala is 2nd best, lowkey best British rapper. Akala's fire in the booth is the realest 10 minutes of rap you could possibly find but the songs on his albums aren't that great.
When i was trapped in a dark place, thinking of that permanent solution for a temporary problem. THIS SONG HELPED. yea, hip hop can Do that also.... Thank you Talib Kweli & Mary J. Coming not only from me but also from William (12), Rosemary (10), Nikolas (8) & my beautiful wife Roxane. ....Yea, Hip Hop can Do that also. Montréal, Canada
"some people usin their noodle, some people usin their muscle, some people put it all together make it fit like a puzzle" inspires me to exercise while I'm doing my homework (not to take away from the deeper message of the song, just my personal take-away)
i swear i listen to this every time i need that extra push at work or when im trying to get something done. the heart and message of this is just so inspirational
Wow, I was 14 when this came out. I remember having this on replay on my used and bootleg CD player. Listened to this almost everyday on the way to school. I'm 30 now, and I still listen to this with my 2 year old daughter. Life is weird but beautiful at the same time. I'm happy I have this to show my daughter not just what's given right now to us. Peace to everyone I hope you're all still trying and moving forward regardless of the obstacles in our way this year (2020).
This is real music. This is something that can change the minds of those that listen close enough. Please link this video to friends and family and most of all to people who dont understand that hip- hop is more then banging and slanging crack.
this video clip is the story of many mcs around the world! we all went through many challenges and difficulties, this clip represents all of us, congratulations for the work Talib, a hail from BRAZIL
Yasssss Talib and Mary!!! still one of my favorite collabs😍❤ Every time I hear this I get chill bumps and shit..tears follow**Tha damn passion in this is everything!
Talib actually has made 2 of my favorite all time videos, one being "Hot Thing" and the other being this. I loved this song from the first time I heard it but the video with it is just a masterpiece. The part towards the end when the kids give him back his book and their respect makes me damn near tear up because I love to see stuff like that.
I remeber this used to come on VH1 Soul all the time when i was in 6th grade. I watched this video everyday after school and I still love the song until this day. Now this is real Hip Hop!
I used to manage a club in Park City, Utah called Club Suede. I gave one of the owners, who did all the booking, a wish list of different artists that I thought would go off in our club. She fulfilled at least 2/3 of that list. Of Course Talib was on there, and DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! Then after the show we hooked up a little after party. Not too crazy, but a great time, with great people. Local police showed up cuz our neighbors always call. My brother is used to it (kind of the club's house), so he moved to the door. Talib stops him, "I got it man." Talked to cops, came back in and had the music turned down, and said to my brother and I, "Where were we?" Talib, you are a class act man. LIveLove.

Still love this. Mary J killing it.
''...this is my product and I gotta move it, stop the industry but you cant stop the music"
Full of spirit. Keep it up Kweli!
Even his upbeat songs are soaked in melancholy. Just superb delivery.
I'd like to see the return of more conscious music.
Jj
Music nowadays: "you need to cut it! Cut it, cut it, cut it
This Song is what I call REAL Hip-Hop. The STRUGGLE. The Journey to make SOMETHING from Negativity.

Mary J just reaches inside you and finds that extra, lol..Kweli, as always💙
A young Kanye beat can never do a rapper wrong
Devastating combo
When people used to ask me what music I liked I used to say hip hop now I don't no what to say
Maybe "old school hip hop"
+BARRY or "real Hip Hop" not the phony shit out today that i wouldn't even consider Hip Hop more like Pop Rap to me.
+DCFC TOM Now you say, old school hip hop ;)
DCFC TOM hahahaha
DCFC TOM I just say Old School Hip Hop....
Kanye is one of the best producers of all time
Wow, I was 14 when this came out. I remember having this on replay on my used and bootleg CD player. Listened to this almost everyday on the way to school.

2021 not too many of us
Young John Legend on the Keys.
Nah that's not him it's a sample
Love the video. The "bully" displayed regret perfectly. He conveyed so much with just his eyes and mannerisms. Really impressive 👏
You could tell when it's a Kanye beat. He had a signature style to it.
2024, yet this is one of my favorite songs to this day. I have been through so much and yet this song keeps me motivated! GOD IS LOVE!!
This song always makes me cry. I'm glad I grew up listening to artists like this. Might not be here otherwise.

#YASSSSS
That HIP-HOP sound.... Nothing like it.....
This track way too prophetic.
Good hip hop right here, we need to bring this kind of music back ...
This video is so powerful. It meant a lot to me growing up. Still does to this day.
KWEST KILLED THIS TRACK,, TALIB DID HIS USUAL RIPPING, AND MARY J. CHUNKED THE ICING ALL OVER THIS
Mary J Blige looks in this video was everything would love her to give this sort of look a try again.
This comment is edited yet I still can't comprehend it.
Ohh Mary J Blige's looks were everything, you would love her to try this look again. Got ya.
Cause it's important what color the artists hat is.
Jesus is better than the star IT SHINES AND MUCH MORE because it is an angel and a god of light!!!
L.O.V.E JESUS AND JEHOVAH!!!! 777 IT LOOKS ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE
Repented because you jesus loves you! AND KNOW god you even honored in shame
Alot of us can relate to the kid in this video.
To me Talib is king of NY, 2pac who? Biggie who? Talib is real, respectful and don't got his head up in the gun barrel, he actually addresses issues and consciousness of the human beings.
This is the song that made me dive in to hip-hop. Now after moving to House, DnB, Jazz, RnB, Techno, Punk, Funk, Soul and so many more I'm back
We all try
he was one underrated rapper
This is one of the most uplifting songs to listen to in the AM, early. We can only try...
The pen is mightier than the sword.
This is a beautiful thing to say... (:
@@Blullaby It is a saying much older than I am.
nobody really talks about talib kweli..and i'd say he's top 5/top 10 best hip hop artists in it right now
K. West! Kweli!
Got searched on the plane, Arabic first name
Disturbed by the fame just like Kurt Cobain
Breath of life, kiss of death, my lips pursed the same
You flirt 'til she came
Nothin' hurt like the pain and torture
Daughters of the dust lookin' for a vein
Something to take in vain like the Lord's name
Put your hands together, got 'em all sayin'
I try, I try
I try, you know I try
I try, I try
I try, you know I try
Yo, it's all ghetto in gear higher, the floor settle
More metal for beef that we don't let the law settle
I try to navigate the treacherous waters of
America's ghettos that set up the slaughteres
But there's more of us
Although we speak in different languages
We all pretty familiar with what anger is
Young and dangerous, ??
Get up on some gangsta shit
Guns to bang ya wit'
And we put it on records to entertain ya wit'
I'm grown with pains way deeper than Mike Seavers
Our uniforms is white sneakers and white T-shirts
On top of wife beaters
We like to light reefers
The 'hood need us for rappers, just ain't the right leaders
I put a lot into it
This is my product and I gotta move it
Stop the industry but you can't stop the music
An upside down kingdom where life is just not fair (upside down kingdom)
Some many sufferin' cuz deep inside they're scared (so scared)
Fear pumped into their veins to keep them from their destiny
Where would they be if you and I don't care?
I try, I try, you know I try
I try, I try, I try, you know I try
Yo, the things I'm seein' on the news is insane
A stock broker shoot his kid and throw himself in front of a train
A mother leave her baby home for two weeks all by himself
Two years old, eatin' ketchup and mustard, cryin for help
Tryin' to bring your struggle to life
The label want a song about a bubbly life
I have trouble tryin' to write some shit
To BANG in the club through the night
When people suffer tonight
Lord knows I try
I try, I try, I try, you know I try
I try, I try, I try, you know I try
Life is a beautiful struggle
People search through the rubble for a suitable hustle
Some people usin' the noodle, some people usin' the muscle
Some people put it all together, make it fit like a puzzle
Come on, say it now
Life is a beautiful struggle
People search through the rubble for a suitable hustle
Some people usin' the noodle, some people usin' the muscle
Some people put it all together, yeah
I try, I try, you know I try
I try, oh Lord I try
Everyday I
Upside down kingdom
Oh, they're so scared
Everyday on the news we can't look around with
Something somewhere
I try, I try, you know I try
I try, I try, I try, you know I try
Lord knows, Lord knows we try
Yeah
Thanks for such a collab, It was legendary!

I remember my dad playing this song in his car when I was little. My brother was a toddler then and he'd try singing along saying "Bye-bye! Bye-bye!"
