can very much attest to overclocker's ability to build a great pc. when i was much younger i saved up all my money and built a pc through them. arrived with the cpu not working. contacted them, they immediately took it back and swapped it out no questions asked. since then have always bought pc parts through them unless i have a very strong reason to buy elsewhere

My first PC was a 600Mhz beige Time machine. 20Gb hard drive. Command & Conquer. Happy days.

My first was a pentium 166mhz… also added the 4MB 3d Voodoo card so for the first time I could use high res (OpenGL i think) graphics in quake 2, some other great games from that time… dungeon keeper, Grand Prix 2, Red Alert, and Armageddon. I then went to a AMD 450MHZ And the world changed… because then I played Grand Prix 3 and StarCraft and at that point decided I could die happy… at 15

Working my way to there for now. At least in terms of my wardrobe if nothing else...

I don't know computers anything like as well as you do James but still a fascinating video.
My PC used for editing really is an antique. I've owned it for well over a decade now and it can just about handle editing 1080 HD video but I've only once tried 4k and even proxy clips stopped it dead in its tracks.
I'm running a PC with a 3 GHZ i5 processor and 8 GB RAM (as much as the board will take). It also has on board graphics rather than a dedicated card.
I have replaced the 1TB HDD with a 1TB SSD which I frequently have to clear videos to a backup drive.
I'm using Filmora 12 after upgrading from Filmora X. Initially I had a few issues and some users of there social media support group thought it laughable that I even attempt to edit videos with such a machine without a dedicated GPU but that's all I have.
I was looking at a Mac Studio at the start of the year but finances have dictated that a new computer will have to wait for a while longer.

I used to build them as my hobby/job and still do for fun. I've done custom watercooled ones too but nothing on the level of your one - that is truly the dream pc!

I love a new car, I love an old car, (currently have 66 Anglia, 71 Beetle, 96 Sylva Striker, plus I have owned over 120 cars through the 80's to today ), I love a PC too, and used to pick up my orders from OCUK so I really appreciate your channel. My first computer was a TI99-4A, I converted to Mac around 15 years ago though and never really looked back for my daily. I have a Windows rig to run my race sim in my home office now but not as beautiful as your awesome build.

Voodoo 2..... wow, that brings back memories. One of my best friends bought one when we went to some large computer "car boot" type thing in Trafford Park. When we got back, we stayed up while he put it in his computer and installed a game called hidden and dangerous to test it.... that's when we realised the rest of the computer couldn't cope 😂

I did notice your wall mounted PC in your videos, and found it very fitting. Symmetry appeals. Nice to share your PC story and having a channel for things like this. Won't watercooling require some manual labor at least once a year? In that case, will Overclockers handle that for you? The Quadro cards, I've gone that route prior because they did the full bit color and some software supposedly would run better, and ECC and all that. Your old system being very sluggish, sometimes you can identify causes through the logbook, and reinstalling Windows is also an option. I gather it wouldn't have influenced your chosen path much anyway, spectacular upgrade! When it comes to PC builds for commercial use I find Puget systems with their testing and research the most impressive and well published source of information. EDIT: I forgot, PC behind glass, wall mounted really highlights tube routing and cable management. Asus now has introduced a mobo that has all the cable connectors at the back, making this much easier to DIY the build, but so far only for the Chinese market. MSI and Gigabyte have shown similar prototypes. EDIT 2: Threadripper would bring multiple full speed PCI-e X16 support, which can make a difference for some usage scenarios.

One tip for the NAS: Get a good 19" rackmount case, a good board with IPMI (you will thank me later), 16GB of RAM, 1 or 2 old SSDs, and install TrueNAS SCALE (formally FreeNAS). Enterprise grade storage with ZFS filesystem for cheap. Components are under 1000€, and you get a perfectly stable NAS with 24 SATA hot swap bays. AsRock makes server grade boards even with Desktop AM4 and AM5 sockets for current AMD CPUs. And with IMPI, you can remote into the machine even if it is off, monitor and even power cycle it.
No real experience with Linux needed, everything can be done from the Web UI. And you can later dabble into extra features like Addons (e.g. for Plex) or VMs.
If you dont go this route and want a proprietary NAS, go with Synology and not QNAP. I have never seen a company with more zero day exploits as QNAP.
But really, invest a weekend to build and setup TrueNAS, and it will save you 1000s of pounds over the long run, is more stable, secure and extendable.

Beautiful setup and nice video! Very interesting since I also work in video production for decades. I've started messing on my Pentium 75MHz, was feeling bad since my friends 486s could Turbo to 100MHz :) Had WC setup once but it also died and was impossible to remove the block from my 7950GX2 so had to replace the card as well... Since then I always run Noctua fans, air cooling game changer, suggest you check them out.

Is this a reupload? I got a notification for this earlier but hadn't got around to watching it. My first PC as a child, running Windows 3.11, was a DAN, a small company based in North-West London (Wembley or thereabouts), no idea what processor was in it but it was a good machine, and quite a few family friends got DAN machines through the Nineties as a result... I ended up replacing the DAN with a Compaq with a whopping 6.4 gigabyte hard drive! I think the DAN had a 512Mb drive... Funny you should mention knocking up fictitious restaurant menus in Publisher, I did exactly the same thing!
