I know this is 10 months old but this is one of the FEW Milanote videos that actually gave me ideas on how to get organized and set up different layouts using Milanote. The templates are useful, but they don't hit the mark for me. This did! Thank you!
Tiago, you had already rocked my world with PARA and CODE. I bought copies of BASB in hardcover, e-book and Audible so I could digest it repeatedly in each of the formats. Now, Milanotes has been another big step. I've been diagnosed with adult-onset ADHD and it's been quite severe. After your recommendation, I played with it for about 30 minutes and then I purchased the full subscription. Folder structures made me glaze over but MIlanotes is so versatile, I can customize it and make things pop all on one board. I haven't been this excited since the earlier days of Evernote, which I now find unreliable. Thank you for producing such great content. I will continue to spread the gospel of PARA.
I think you hit the nail on the head for me about the ADHD - this system liberates me from the obsession of constantly reorganizing my stacks in evernote but gives me enough structure to leverage the “curse” of an ADHD mind (often the “blessing” or unique perspective that people often cite they value from me). I feel like I’ve finally got a digital tool that best fits my brain. I now feel anchored just enough to align with the purpose I’m capturing these notes without losing the eureka moment. To me, this is eunoia in a digital system.
It's weird for me to say this, but you are a legit productivity "guru", when I hear a suggestion you make I hear it differently compared if it were said by another brilliant productivity expert. I appreciate your work in this space

An app is measured long-term if it is good or bad. The more information you collect, it defines the quality of an app. Milanote looks nice in Tiago's introduction, and I will give it a try, but it is all matter of time if it will be a great or a bye-bye app. As for Notion, Obisidian, and similar apps, I cannot understand how people like apps that you become a slave of the apps. All day to tweak and adjust and organize notes. Out of my understanding. I'm in a big junction with Notes app right now and hope to find a good one.
Looks good for planning an individual project because it's so visual, but I think overall, Obsidian is the place to store your overall second brain. Milanote would be like grabbing a piece of paper to make some notes to see a visual representation. None the less, I have subscribed to the free plan to give it a whirl for my current project. Tiago explains the app so well, and it is very intuitive.
@atmaram64 The issue of ownership is pretty important. I really like Milanote as presented in this video. It captures many utilities which I regularly use in Obsidian, physical notes, and on Trello. But not feeling certain my work will be around for as long as I desire, or will be accessible as long as I need is discouraging. Any company can fail.

Finally man! 🎉 I watched your note taking Videos for long time, very curious why you never talk about Milanote. I’ve been use it for very long time. It’s my number one note app, it’s great for branching my thoughts, it illustrates my thought just like my second brain.

PS Thanks for the great videos!
Tiago, may I ask, are you still primarily using Evernote? I'm a librarian note taker like yourself but it seems like Evernote's recent changes does seem as intuitive as before. Is there one you are now shifting to? Thoughts?
I have tried Milanote and it is not for me. The many pictures and colours distract me from the essentials. Besides, I know that I get lost in the search for the most appropriate and beautiful pictures when I'm taking notes. It doesn't appeal to me. But I'll give it another chance. Let's see, maybe I'll find another way for me. Otherwise I'll stay with Notion, whose potential I haven't exhausted by a long shot.

Building a Second Brain really seems to need a robust search function. The milanote does not seem to have that. I don't see that is supports tags or hashtags. Please advise...
So many of these tools, especially the more visual tools, look like lite versions of what Tinderbox has been doing for over 20 years. Though they make it far easier to start. Tinderbox is hard.
I like Tiago but I feel his lack of expertise in other tools is impacting his abaility to review tools like this with integrity. This app is fantastic, but it's a bummer that it's quite pricey for those of us living outside the USA. The currency conversion rate is just too high. It'd be awesome if they could make it more affordable for everyone.
It seems interesting. But perhaps wrong on the pricing strategy. Notion started and still is pretty much free. As Obsidian. The free version of this app is too restrictive.

So, if Milanotes appeals to you, go for it! If it ends up being that you don't like normal notes in milanote, you can look into other programs to fill that gap!
The ability to see a bunch of notes at once seems appealing.
Thank you so much Tiago!!
I’d love to see how Tiago would use Apple’s new app Freeform as a second brain, as well as using it in conjunction with apple notes, reminders and calendar.
Finally man! 🎉 I watched your note taking Videos for long time, very curious why you never talk about Milanote. I’ve been use it for very long time. It’s my number one note app, it’s great for branching my thoughts, it illustrates my thought just like my second brain.
Hadn’t tried it until recently, it’s really well designed. And been around longer than I realized
@@TiagoForte glad to see you try man. It's been helpful for me. my ideas are scattered all the time, Notion and Evernote are not my thing. but Milanote has those drag and branch out features that are perfect for me. it's literally my second brain. 😂
Do you think Milanote could be a note-taking app by itself in a long term run Howard? I mean with a lot of notes during long time?
Any thoughts about building a second brain with Miro or Freeform (also compared to Milanote)?
Drew DeVault has a post in 2022 on how he "wishes he could organize his thoughts" and Milanote is pretty close to that vision.
It’s impressive
Coming from Evernote - this is very very appealing. Can I trust it though?
Tiago curious how you see using Milanote and Notion in unison and not doubling efforts. I've been building out Notion for 6 months now, and I feel like I'm getting lost with "where did I put that idea", so I see great value with Milanote for projects, client work etc. Thoughts on ways to bridge both apps? PS Thanks for the great videos!
I think this will help me apply PARA to Miro as well, thanks!
Tiago, may I ask, are you still primarily using Evernote? I'm a librarian note taker like yourself but it seems like Evernote's recent changes does seem as intuitive as before. Is there one you are now shifting to?
Thoughts?
Still primarily Evernote, but I’m trying a lot of other options: Tana, Mem, Notion w AI, Milanote… I won’t fully switch until I feel 100% about it
I am looking for ease of use and reliability, Apple Notes seems like it might get there
It is hard to break away from Evernote's ability to search for words in pictures and documents. I just love that feature.
Any heavy Muse users here? What major differences stick out to you? Milanote devs also welcome to comment :)
Great examples! I use Obsidian Canvas in a similar way
WOW. Thanks for the sharing, will use it since it is free :)
amazing video - thank you
I`d love to see another Video from your ongoing series, in which you rate note-taking tools in 10 categories. This time with Milanote!
Cool idea
I have tried Milanote and it is not for me. The many pictures and colours distract me from the essentials. Besides, I know that I get lost in the search for the most appropriate and beautiful pictures when I'm taking notes. It doesn't appeal to me. But I'll give it another chance. Let's see, maybe I'll find another way for me. Otherwise I'll stay with Notion, whose potential I haven't exhausted by a long shot.
Thanks for sharing, this is a good perspective
Hi Tiago, I am aware you used Mind node app at some point? And export it to Things 3, Is Mila note similar to it? Mind node appears more agile as a PKM system in the Apple ecosystem. Your opinion ?
Do you don't have a "capture" and "Task" board?
Evernote is still main app for capture, then would only fully use Milanote for projects that benefit from extra level of visualization or creativity and inspiration
I use a task manager called Things for tasks, don’t like to mix them for my personal tasks
@@TiagoForte I just added a fifth folder called "capture & tasks" for eveything that's flying in and for shortband longer term tasks. So it's T(asks)-PARA 😀
@Tiago Forte is it where you use PARA for overall planning? So did you use Things or Evernote’s to do the main overall project/task planning? Thank you
This is Sick. I'm going to move to Milanote from notion.
Another cloud-based subscription service. This needed to be said up front not to waste many people's time.
whats your current choice of an app ?
@@kobi2643 Obsidian. I think it benefits people who like to tinker with their workflow, those who like more complexity, and those who like programming.
your comments are erroneous, Lacking any substance
That’s a plus for me. Don’t need to be without my files.
@@mageprometheushow does it benefit people who code?
I would like to see your thoughts about Mymind app and a new note taking app called Lazy (still in beta).
If you have a beta key for Lazy send it to marc@fortelabs.com
Excellent tutorial. I have spent a lot of time in Milanote and I found this video's structure to be both interesting and entertaining. :)
🙏
I'm not sure but i think you missed to link that PARA video
Thank you, added
It would be great to have all these features in the Obsidian canvas plugin because Obsidian is sustainable.
What do you mean sustainable? How is Milanote not sustainable? I use it and I'm not sure what this means
Do you think Milanote could be a note-taking app by itself in a long term run?@@visi7891
I always loved the idea of the external mind, but maintaining one seems to consume an awful lot of time.
Only as much as is helpful. Easy to over do
Seems likely it would be something i would try for 2 weeks before coming back to my AppleNote / Evernote combi.
Is there a cost to use this app?
Your 💡 ideas usually are very good.
There’s a freemium version and an unlimited version
What do you think about using more than one notes app? Bad idea?
is it where you use PARA for overall planning? So did you use Things or Evernote’s to do the main overall project/task planning? Thank you
This looks cool gotta try this I use a note app with several Decent Features but its performance goes down the train when the text gets long and only has 1 layer of folders for notes. I need to know if this can also work offline and synch later.
Curious if this App can be structured to be a visual database that is cross-linked. I am referring to a database where I can catalog one image and link to all the possible uses for this image? I greatly appreciate your feedback Tiago.
An Operational System must get this concept and put inside.
Can you sync Milanote with Readwise?
Not that I’m aware of
Loved your Vids Tiago! By the way, you did not mention Obsidian's board. 😁😂
Obsidian have this kind of whiteboard Archer?
Building a Second Brain really seems to need a robust search function. The milanote does not seem to have that. I don't see that is supports tags or hashtags. Please advise...
Combine a strong PARA System with using it only for things that are especially visual, creative, collaborative, or divergent
@@TiagoForteso not really good for a full second brain taking note?
So many of these tools, especially the more visual tools, look like lite versions of what Tinderbox has been doing for over 20 years. Though they make it far easier to start. Tinderbox is hard.
How can I export all of my note objects to an external system so that I can safely store it locally or offline?
How many sub boards can I have within a board?
This reminds me of obsidian canvas feature
I like Tiago but I feel his lack of expertise in other tools is impacting his abaility to review tools like this with integrity.
Obsidian canvas does most of this, logseq whiteboard also does a great job.
A sponsored video about an app ok, comparing it to other tools you dont use, not something I like.
Those apps sound really cool
;) Me and the team have used both the apps you mentioned at least as much as Milanote, but I’m glad they are a good fit for you
I also love the Obsidian app. Especially canvas plug in.
Obsidian canva can do this?
@@ARNBNDL not sure what 'this' refers to. I have a video about it.
Kinda like Heptabase
OMG I have though about it anyways, and then it pops up!!
The free version of this app is too restrictive.
how to use it as a phd student ?
Lovely idea, but nothing beats August Bradley’s PPV system.
What is it?
@@ARNBNDL August Bradley uses Notion and he has a video series here on RUclips. I initially watched it to learn Notion and built my system along with him. Now I wouldn’t use anything else.
@@maigallop its same than Malinote in use? I will check this.
@@maigallop its hard to learn Maiga?
@@ARNBNDL I didn’t think so. I originally started watching August Bradley’s videos to learn how to use Notion but ended up learning so much more and learning how Notion works as well as its power.
nice tool
