Useful review thanks. (For transparency you should mention at the beginning you have been given the unit to review to avoid any accusations of this being a shill video).

Been using the BCS100 base model from Igpsport for nearly a year now. It's basic, but gives me all i need. But seriously, it can be bought for less than 20 quid. Fabulous value....

I've got the same unit and I love it. I would say that set up and map input are not intuitive. It's taken me some frustrating hours to get used to it.

You did an excellent job with the review. Answered the questions I had. Yes, The bike computers are over rated to function where the focus is on super training and flashy modes to impress your buddies. Most of these riders seem to be caught up in the gadgetry and less focused on the riding.
I just want a small unit for touring that will give me good navigation, speed, mileage and when to make the turns. It's a companion to my cell phone, especially when wiifii disappears,{ not meant to replace the cell phone) I will still have a map.
I have been looking at all the gps units believe this igs300 will fill the bill. They have the 630's and now the igs800 but just a lot more bells and whistles I don't need t a much higher cost.
    Thanks for the great video.

Thank you. From experience the only thing missing is iClimb (Climb pro on Garmin) where you get a more detailed climbing screen.
Put it this was- I have a £550 Garmin 1040 Edge and I haven’t touched it since getting the BSC300

@@thewattlife , Well I don't need the climbing mode. Climbing on an off the bike is sufficient for my need and don't want to know my heart rate. If that peaks I won't be alive to read it! Touring is for me, simplification, ridding yourself of things not needed and enjoying the people and country side at a pace to take it all in. Thanks again for the video and the reply. Stay health and safe. Hopefully I will crawl of of the mountains here in Thailand and get to France this fall for a long need, long tour.

I recently got a Garmin 830 but this seems like a good option if my Garmin breaks down... Although I do like Garmin Connect.

    • @thewattlife
      @thewattlife 3 месяца назад +1

Yeah- i don’t rely on Garmin connect too much, as I pull all my data to strava and TP.
My Garmin is great but it’s the 1040edge, so when I’m popping out for an hour or eventually doing a road race for an hour or two, I just want clean, simple and small.

    Thanks for the review, Max!
    Some questions, if I may:
~ Do you miss the Climb function of the Garmin (I think the 630 has it though)?
~ If you're on a pure data screen, will Nav pop up approaching a turn or diversion?
~ How many screens can you have, and can you have them auto scroll like Garmin?
~ I assume to get the ride onto Garmin Connect, you have to drop a GPX file via a computer?
I have a Garmin 130 Plus for everyday, but looking for something when exploring rather than a bread-crumb trail.
    Cheers!

      Hey Phil-
-I havent missed the climb function in the UK but yes, out in Mallorca i did think it would have been nice. The 630 has iClimb which is their version of Climb Pro.
      - Yes, turn by turn nav will feature on any screen. I think i tried to explain that this wasnt coming up when it thought the route had ended. You;ll get a turn warning on any page if you are using Nav.
      - I think its 8 pages. I didnt know about autoscroll on the garmin, but as far as i know there is no autoscroll or its certainly not an option ive seen come up at any point.
      - IGPSport links straight up to Strava but this means that it by-passes Garmin Connect. They also do not connect up to Training Peakes so i have to drop the GPX file into there as well. Which is a bit of a pain.
They also link up to the rear light for a radar which shows on your computer screen which gives you more road awareness but this isnt something ive used.

It keep beeping until you turn around and go on the planned route. It will not find an alternative route in the event of road closure;as I believe a Garmin would. It is a great value unit for the money. Hope this helps👍
