Like he said it's okay to use them on any gear you like. I have a sweater sandal facemask combo I love and I went and buy all the slots for them because I want it to be my first "set" of clothes I'm known for.
The best strategy is to use them only for cuttlegear and amiibo gear as those are the only ones you can't boost with money, they're useless unless you desperately need that 2nd or 3rd slot otherwise
Reminder that rerolling slots to farm up ability chunks really isn't worth it in this game thanks to salmon run. You get way more chunks from farming salmon run than we got back in splatoon 2 (and way less money to spend on increasing star level), so if you're really looking to get more gear chunks just keep playing salmon run past the normal rewards
So what do we do with the sea snails then? I don't see a use for anything else, you can add more sub gear slots from getting the same piece of gear in the shops, and it cost like 3 snails to upgrade the slots so you have a pile of them, just reroll a good brand to get the abilities you want
If you're looking for specific ability chunks then snails are the way to go if you are using the rerolls on a piece of gear likely to have that ability. Salmon Run is totally random in the chunks you get. I also didn't realize Salmon Run in 3 gives out way more chunks than 2, it feels the opposite to me but I guess I'm misremembering 2.
@@shudderbutter4540 in 2, it was possible to get gear that didn't contain ability chunks, and sell it for 4000 coins, it's impossible to do so in 3, which makes it better for ability chunks farming, but worse for money

Rerolling slots is the objective wrong choice here. You can get ability chunks in so many other, better ways, and when you reroll, what you get is entirely random. You're far better off using your super sea snails to upgrade amiibo gear, since you can't find it in shops at all, and thus can't upgrade its star power normally.
I really wish I knew about the Brand preferences for abilities because the absolute pain I had hoping for Intensify Action on a Tarroka jacket has been absolute PAIN.
The catch with what I did: I already found the outfit I desired and had it and the grinding gear at 3 slots already (xp is the same throughout unlike in 2 for gear which was based on original star count), so using 5 snails on each for a boost seemed worthless, leaving me with rerolling for the chunks I wanted. Unlike in 2, though, where I didn't take initiative with grinding, I knew to grind instantly for 3, ending up with a finished headpiece prior Splatfest and afterwards with the snails I could cut what would normally be hours into a few minutes. If you already solved your ideal look and had taken initiative, you can be more on the side of rerolling but if you haven't, then do what was spoken, get the gear to 1 star, then use 1 shell to make it 2 stars if not already. This guarantees you can get a full set that you want before running out of Sea Snails from all planned Splatfests.

Kinda wish gear had the same freshness system weapons have. Like ok exp goes into abilities but the total raised exp of that gear goes into its freshness. And just like weapons, each milestone awards a tier of freshness which can EASILY translate into star power. Snails would just act as a way to automatically reach that mile stone. And resets the exp lvl to at the start of that tier (its for QA purposes as bugs can occur if you try to count the exp you had so far).

1:22 For now, since in Octo Expansion you could get them through the machine. Also, quick question. What gear do you think would make the gLiTcH or EmperorBoo look on my Inkling? For context, it's a black top hat with a black hood covering the backside, a white mask with black eye-holes and mouthhole, a raggedy yet spooky witch-like robe, with Yellow and Purple colored Diamond-patterned pants and sleeves, red gloves with green thumbs, blue boots with orange soles and a rainbow blanket attached to the back. How can I get as close to something like that for my Inkling?
That's great and all but does anyone actually know what the exp boost for five star gear is? Is it like +.09 or +.25 or what? I've seriously been scouring the internet looking to find out and have found nothing.
A sea snail saves you 20,000 per snail on rerolls; 30,000 on to get to 2 stars; but only 10,000 per snail to get to 3+ stars. Rerolls and amiibo stars are the best value imo.
Rerolling honestly just seems like a waste for me. It's just a time save compared to scrubbing, but with how limited the sea snails are it really doesn't seem worth it. You can just get more cash by playing more, you have to wait for another Splatfest to get more sea snails. Boosting star power seems way more worth while
The wandercrust hat can only be obtained by completing all the "Journey" locations. From there, if you did so already, you should be able to click on the hat (or an option near it to claim the hat) on the app. Then, close your Splatoon 3 game if it's open- and then claim the item at the Terminal in the Lobby. No other way of obtaining the hat is possible. However, if you play a lot of ranked or casual turf war, you can get the required ink points in no time!

Bro I'll use mine this time, in Splatoon 2 I have something like 120+ SSS gathering dust because I didn't want to "waste them"
I'm holding onto mine until I get gear I like.
on my third reroll I ended up getting 3 swim speed and I'm never rerolling that item again lol
I know for Splatoon 2 there was a website that calculated the stats of your gear with its abilities. Does that exist for Splatoon 3 yet?
the nintendo online app does
beta.sendou.ink looks it has the calcs you want
😭I already used them all because I rerolled on the last few but at least I got good rolls
I love the random ワクワク, nice undercover weeb reference.
How can I get as close to something like that for my Inkling?
lmao I used all my snails on pieces of gear found in shops, guess I found this a bit too late
Me watching this when I already spent all my snails
That's great and all but does anyone actually know what the exp boost for five star gear is? Is it like +.09 or +.25 or what? I've seriously been scouring the internet looking to find out and have found nothing.
A sea snail saves you 20,000 per snail on rerolls; 30,000 on to get to 2 stars; but only 10,000 per snail to get to 3+ stars.
Rerolls and amiibo stars are the best value imo.
I only spent 2 you get an extra slot on two of my favorite pieces one one star gear
Question, so using a snail on a gear increases it’s XP multiplier. Does that multiply your own battle XP or it’s own clothing XP for getting abilities
Clothing xp I believe
Rerolling honestly just seems like a waste for me. It's just a time save compared to scrubbing, but with how limited the sea snails are it really doesn't seem worth it. You can just get more cash by playing more, you have to wait for another Splatfest to get more sea snails. Boosting star power seems way more worth while
I already spent all My sea snails and boy was it worth it
So, I played to Ruler +16, wish I got more snails honestly...
You say to save 200K, but how often will I get a chance to buy exactly what I want from the shop?
“Snee sails”😭😭😭
0:10 "Super Sne Sails"
I mean I used all my snails on rerolling and it got me 3 pieces of perfect gear so I’m fine w it
if all you get is bonus gear xp for 4 and 5 stars how is it worth it??
does the hat you get from the wandercrust show up in the shop?
That’s a very good question. I don’t believe it does since it seems to be an exclusive item
hope not
You get it thought the Nintendo switch app
The wandercrust hat can only be obtained by completing all the "Journey" locations. From there, if you did so already, you should be able to click on the hat (or an option near it to claim the hat) on the app. Then, close your Splatoon 3 game if it's open- and then claim the item at the Terminal in the Lobby.
No other way of obtaining the hat is possible. However, if you play a lot of ranked or casual turf war, you can get the required ink points in no time!
