Hi Luke, I also nave a Nammatj but the 3 person version. I have a small hack that also helps with the venting on this tent. At the back of the tent are 2 metal steak out rings. If you attach a guy to each of those about a meter long and then steak them out, it lifts the bottom of that part of the fly by about 4-5”. It also allows a tighter extension of of the fly, so even if it is driving rain it won’t hit the inner tent. Works a treat for getting some air flow in from the bottom of the tent. Great videos. Nick
I love Hilleberg products. Even though they are expensive if you want the very best, go no further than Hilleberg. The Nammatj saved my life and that of a friend in the German Alps whe we were caught in an unexpected snow storm. My car couldn't traverse the heavy snow so we parked off the highway as far as possible and set up the tent. We survived the storm. It took us hours to shovel my car clear of snow. A snow plow had to pull my car onto the road. I plan to buy another Hilleberg for next winter to keep in my van.
With the mesh inner, you can still use this tent in cold wintertime conditions & KNOW you have SHELTER from the strongest of COLD, WINDY wintertime storms. Excellent info about Hilleberg focusing their time/materials/employees on making tents, not inners. Big thanks to CJ for providing you with the almost impossible to get Inner mesh fabric. Most any Hilleberg product is something you'll want to bequeath to a relative or friend in your Will, definitely something to pass on after you pass on. You've got to KNOW all Hilleberg Employees will be smiling when watching this video. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.
I've enjoyed watching your videos. There are so many interesting products these days. I learned backpacking as a Boy Scout in the 60s. Fortunately we had a scoutmaster who was a very experienced outdoorsman. We all learned to make fire without matches, safely camp in the winter, cook outdoors all while respecting the land. All with army surplus equipment. Eventually I acquired my own backpacking gear, but so much that's out there now wasn't even dreamed of back in those days. I'm 68 now and I'm afraid that camping these days has been reduced to where you can get the truck. I plan on watching more of your videos.
Luke, if I were you I'd go buy a Lotto ticket because you're just that lucky to get that mesh inner!! Hilleberg tents are absolute top shelf in every way and worth every cent. Thanks for bringing us this review of such an awesome shelter system. Strength and Honor!
I did a bus tour of Ireland (and Northern Ireland) in 2019. Our bus driver/guide was out of Dublin. His bus driving ability and historical knowledge of Ireland was very impressive. Sometimes on those narrow roads you have over there especially in the Dingle peninsula I would think to myself as he went around a tight corner while at the same time giving us Irish history on the speaker he’s surely going to hit something, but he never did. The first thing he did as our group gathered in the bus for the first time was ask us if there were any English people present, there weren’t, he said good, now I can give you the true Irish history. I’m American, but my Irish dad would have appreciated that. Anyway as we were touring around the Irish countryside was very interesting to me as an avid hiker here in Northern California. I wouldn’t mind coming back and hiking some of the trails there. I don’t mind the rain, in fact I love how it keeps everything so green.
Just came across this review. Very similar to the Hilleberg setup, I have a Fjallraven Abisko Endurance 3 tunnel tent that I purchased a mesh inner tent kit, to be able to extend the tent's range for summer use. Love my Fjallraven tent, and so was very pleased to have an option like this.
What an awesome tent, love the looks as well, your blessed that your friend was able to find you the other inner mesh liner so you can use it as a three season.
Nice score, Luke! Thanks for the video about it; Hilleberg aren't for me, but I know that heaps of your other viewers will be tuning in excitedly for this one. Delivered a quality show as you always do, so of course I still watched it. Love to you & Susie!
Perfect for "mountaineering", backpacking in western high elevations when extreme winds, and snowstorms can occur at basically ANY time! :D Expensive? Sure. But what's your life worth if you have to hunker down through hours or days of severe storms? :D Not in the price range for typical car camping and rare weekend campers/hikers, but that's not who it's marketed to. Looking forward to your real-life in-use reviews! :D
the Hilleberg reminds me of the Arctic Oven Pipeline tent. One bonus of a 4 season tent in the summer is it can be air conditioned if camping at a Class A site with power. 😉
Thank you for the information! There are people like me who have no idea on these products, and you make it so...much easier to decide and know what you are getting! THANK YOU! How's my girl Susie?🥰
Where to try the new inner out you ask… why, to wake up with the ponies, of course! Time for a hike in, set up base camp multi day adventure. Let’s Go!
Commenting before I have watched the whole video. The Nammatj has some of the best ventilation of their 2P models. The front and rear vents allow significant airflow. This is not a 4th season only tent. But as always site selection is key, both for prevailing wind direction and for shade. A mesh inner isn’t necessary with the right knowledge. Which is good because if you call HB customer service they will tell you the soonest they expect to fulfill mesh orders is spring 2023. They are focusing on catching up with the order backlog for tents this year. All you’ve done is help people profiteering on the secondary market - which is exactly what you did several months ago with your Soulo video.
its worth checking out the fjallraven abisko lite 3 too - which is a similar shape/size, but obviously with their features etc. The standard innder and vents are a little better and cooler - plus you can roll up the front and back if hot for a summer mode (but only when dry weather unfortunately) - but cheers as always for the great content
The mesh inner weighs about the same as the standard yellow inner. The ultimate summer tent is of course one of the inners pitched outside the tent. Would be nice to see that demonstrated! (I tried it in a dry summer in Wales and got thoroughly soaked by the dew!!)
I have the Kaitum 3, and just discovered there is an inner mesh tent available for my tent! Thanks for the tip! My tent has been rock solid in extreme harsh weather conditions in Scotland for years now! 👍 I wish they installed a bug net on the air inlets at the front or back. The midgets can easily get in the outer tent... 🥴
Best of best, the mesh completes the package. When motorcycling RTW you need to cover all options as best you can. It's a marginal sport/experience. You need to be ready. This allows a lot more choices of where to stay.
I've wanted a mesh inner for Nallo 2 for some time for exactly the same reasons. As you say though, they are rather rare. I've got a few alerts set up so hopefully I'll get one next time they come back into stock. Thanks for doing the video. Simon
I'm still looking nine months after I started to want a mesh inner. But in truth, for hot weather comfort - this is the wrong model even with an inner mesh.
Hi Luke! Great review. Personally I think the price is worth it for the protection that it offers. I would definitely pay that. I really hope that we see you in a big winter storm with this tent in the winter. Can't wait to see just how warm it is. I certainly understand availability issues. That makes it frustrating however. Thank you for reviewing this tent
Sweet! Pretty much says it all. Hilleberg should charge $200 more for the tent and just include the mesh inner, problem solved. A 3-4 season solution all in one package or two, just saying. Expensive it is, as all Hilleberg products are or any top shelf premium gear for that matter but you do get what you pay for in outdoor equipment. Score...lucky you getting the mesh inner, nice. Since this mesh inner is unobtainium there's no need to review it as we can't get it, at least for the time being. When or if it becomes available, then you can do a review which will be more relevant at the time. Thanks for the look Luke👍
I live in the desert and it's so hot here that even with ventilation I can't be in the tent in the day time unless it's raining, but we keep our stuff in the tent so we can't take the fly off because the intense sun would fry our stuff sitting in the tent. But the fly makes it so stuffy when it's in the mid 90s out.
'One Tent to Rule Them.' Old guys with savings want just that 'one tent' they can take anywhere. I have been through many summer 'high wind' events and I have been through clinging snow events. The barrel shape and support system of the Hilleberg 'wins the race.' This screen insert system is all that was missing to complete the package. In 'shoulder seasons', I would take the whole kit.
Hilleberg are in the very short conversation of who makes the very best tents. I would like to see a comparison between them and the slingfin tents. That would be interesting. i don’t have the mesh inner on my Nammatj 2GT. I’ve camped in it during TX summer & can honestly say that the airflow wasn’t the best. it did get warm, but Never had condensation even +100°. You could put rocks or gear under the main structure walls to lift & give better airflow.

This is not designed for light summer use - it's a pretty narrow design (But I love mine). The better non-expedition tent is the Nalo. Better airflow and the front lets you open in the middle, the left side or the right, to catch the breeze much better. It's bomb proof - but not as tough if you go to the Alps or the Arctic in winter.
That looks like the same tent as used by Jarl, the Norwegian explorer. He is a lot like you, in that he waits until the forecast calls for unsurvivable

Never had a problem with a 4 season tent. But then again, it was always covered with a tarp or camo nets (or both). Might have "shielded" some from the sun.
Hay Luke Why didn't you and Susie take that tent and go up on White Top Mountain Va were it's always windy and test it where. 🙂😀😁😆😀😎😎👍👍 Dennis from Delaware

If you have the GT version you get full mesh doors on both sides, that makes a big difference. Not like a full mesh inner but alot better.

Luke that tent is a very good for the winter time it keeps the cold air out to keep you warm thank you for sharing this with me my friend
Take it wherever Jason is. Now THAT would be a great video!
I’ve been loving your videos lately, I’ve been stuck doing nothing for a while due to my lungs and it’s been nice to see some outdoorsy stuff.
I think the future of tents is modular design. Thanks Luke.
Thanks for showing Celcius ❤

That sounds like a true shelter for any environment or conditions. I actually thought it would be more expensive. Time to take a trip to visit Santa!
In all honesty, I've paid more for much less. Absolutely agree, they make the best tents, period.
Bring this tent to Mount Cheaha, AL. In summer you will want that for storms and be ventilation.

Best sales putch ever, "you can go without the mesh but, then you have no protection against snakes" 🤣🤣
That's pretty cool for converting it to a hot weather tent. It's way outside of my budget, so I'll just stick with what I already use.
Wel I hiked in quite a lot of hotter areas recently with the Akto. And it was very manageble with the temperature. Warm but nothing to serious!

Hey Luke, love all videos. So what company makes a great sturdy, light, good on rain and wind resistance. Places I go to are hot during the day and super cold at night. Some days with high windy days.

the lead times for manufacturing stuff like this is in the multiple months range

Better airflow and the front lets you open in the middle, the left side or the right, to catch the breeze much better. Unsurvivable... Then he goes out hiking in it
Hi, Thank's for the super video. Just one question, what is the weight of th normal inner tent compare to the mesh ?
You take it everywhere, anytime. It's a pro tent but not for the average weekend hiker.
