Gerald Ford nailed it with this quote: A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.” Address to a Joint Session of Congress, August 12, 1974 Its in full affect! The church is almost invisible!
He then made the government bigger by consolidating power. The ironic thing is that a physically larger government - that is, made of more of its citizens - is the smaller government than the "small government" wrapped up in layers of bureaucracy we have thanks to Republicans.
I'm amused by that people from the United States would have trouble with a citizen of any other nation talking about things in our country. Many of my fellow citizens have no trouble telling people from around the world hot they should live, act, ect...

The title of this video is so true. I belong to the American Legion in NC. One has to be a veteran to belong to this group. Sadly, I know that many if not most in my lodge voted for Trump. At each meeting we swear an oath to the constitution and to the US. Trump seems intent on bending and breaking the constitution when it serves his needs. So I don’t understand how my brothers in arm can both honestly swear to uphold but at the same time vote for someone like Trump.
As a person from outside your country, yes, we feel the same way. We fear for the American people with Trump back in power. We also fear for the rest of the world with that lunatic and his crazies with their fingers on the nuclear button.
Nobody has paid attention who is promoting wars, pushing Russia to nuclear war, giving aid to the taliban after our soldiers were killed and us citizens left behind. Has that happened under a Trump administration? Last thing I remember is all the fighting slowed down in Iraq and Afghanistan. No money went to countries who support terrorism. Biden is trying escalate the war in Ukraine before Trump is in office because then there might be peace finally and we can shift our troops to fight jihadi terrorists who actually want to kill Americans on our soil.
Trump openly says he wants to "terminate the constitution" so your fellow members have no place swearing an oath to a constitution they voted to destroy. However, their cult movement expressly denies any allegiance to facts or honor as well so it's in keeping with their loyalty to only one person and no ideologies.
When Peter was confronted , he denied Christ himself. I pray with all of my heart, body, mind and soul, that we have more strength when face to face with tyrannical authority.
@@joycebrackbill-henderly8311Peter eventually came to a vastly stronger conviction. He'd been running on hot air, not the will of God. So many biblical signs tell us Trump and MAGA are bad news of enormous scope.
I encourage you to read Tim Snyder' sequel - On Freedom. BTW - thank you for sharing this - I have personally gifted over 100 copies of On Tyranny to local libraries, schools and friends. This book is that important.
I left a church that was preaching the Christian nationalist movement and I had to leave there! I talked to the elders of the church and they were ok with the preacher teaching this ! I loved the people there but it was wrong to preach anything other than Jesus Christ!
Drives me crazy when certain preachers are complaining about immigrants and the border. Didn't Jesus say to welcome the stranger ? They are not doing that.
I was reading your post and it reminded me of my similar experience in 2008 when the body of Christ moved towards a political nationalist agenda. I will never forget that Sunday morning during 11:00 worship service they canceled the service to show a political symacast video. I was so devastated and shocked. I heard the urging of the Holy Spirit say get up and leave. I love the church and the people. I was a baby in Christ at the time and I so needed the connection of my Christian family. As I sat in the parking lot trying to make sense of it all the Spirit of God told to leave and don't look back. That day he made it clear his Spirit no longer was abide in the American evangelical church. On that day ichabod had been stamp over the door of the church Over the years I've witnessed the lack of anointing in the body. It saddens me to this day.
@Lioness1499 if they are not pointing to christ and if they are not aligning with scripture then it's a false. But in order understand God's voice you need to read the Bible for yourself. When you go to church you should know the lecture. If you are told to leave, say it's the spirit, but haven't been putting work into reading the Bible and understanding Christ the how can you say the Spirit of God told you to leave? Also A Christian Nationalist country is a bad thing? Why is that when the core will be the Bible and promoting Jesus Christ as King and Savior? Just look at what God did in El Salvador with a dictator President that believes in God. Crime is pushed out, many prisoners converting to Christ and preaching the Gospel, no civilians casualties during the campaign, criminals locked up. God is leading the government to prosperity because the people chose the right elected official who is a worker in God even if he is a Dictator.
Wrong. God said His people will perish for lack of knowledge not resisting. When you have a government who is promoting the Bible nationally should not be an issue but when you have a government who is promoting worldly view above God is when you should resist and spread the Gospel.
You speak for a world that needs to be just. Biden said, the other night in his speech: If we are not the world leaders, who are we? If we, as people from the United States, intend to be world leaders, we must have compassion. Might does not make right. I'm sure we could learn from other nations. If we don't speak out, we are selling our soul, for a pittance. Before the 2020 election, I heard a US priest extol the virtues of Trump. I didn't think that was good leadership.
Don't believe any religious person who praises Trump is a true speaker for the Love of Christ. 1st thing religious leaders who desire to praise Trump should ensure 1st that, Trump has confessed all his sins to Jesus Christ. Then, Walk His Talk and make right all the wrongs he has committed before The Divine and humanity. Once he has paid back for all of his wrong...Listen up Evangelicals!! After he, Donald Trump has paid back the debts his harmful and hateful actions and thoughts, that have be corrected and paid in full... Then and only then is he truly qualified to lead the falling Nation.
It amazes me that people don’t see tyranny bleeding out of every pore of Trump. Every day it seems to be a new issue. The latest is Trump referring to Justin Trudeau as “Governor. That’s just Trump trying to make him small. He hit a road block with the Mexican President so it seems he turned to what he thinks is an easier target.
Prime Minister Trudeau is far more intellect than dump T. He speaks fluently in French and English with high level of sentence usages and vocabulary. He can debate in French like French intellectual men. So when d7mp T put down others it meant he is very insecure and petty.
Thank you, Reverend Ed. It is kind of sad that this is the first I've heard an inkling of resistance from the part of "the church" I still hope has found inspiration from Jesus.
This is what amazes us: the South Koreans didn't put up with martial law, Assad was booted from power by the people, Tunisia didn't put up with crap years ago - what the hell is happening in the USA? Why aren't people out screaming in the streets? Why did they take Trump lying down? Why aren't they screaming for health care etc. Covid would have been the best of times for that. What is going on there? As a country they seem to have been pushed into a corner over time, but there doesn't seem to be any fight in them. The first fight back we have seen is this young man who shot the CEO.... We don't condone that, but surely the populace could have done something (mass protests, strikes) years earlier on these issues and it wouldn't have required this young man to kill to get the country off their butts and start to get motivated against their corporate overlords.
After hearing Rachel Maddow discuss this book several years ago, I have had it in and out of my Amazon cart for several years. Timothy Snyder has been a recurring guest on MSNBC since this last election. I finally ordered it last week, expecting delivery 12/21. Looking forward to the lessons it will offer.
Reading for the second time. It can be a quick read but it’s best to take it slow like the Reverend said. This was written in 2017-before our Jan 6th. But I’ve already read a portion where it sounded as if he had predicted what happened. But he is a history professor who is simply warning us based on what happened in the past. One of my children used to ask why she had to study history or in her 12 year old words “study a bunch of old dead guys”- And I would tell her how we can learn from history. This book should be required reading in middle and high school. Not only does it teach historical facts, it teaches why documenting and studying history is important.
A tyrant doesn’t tolerate questioning. That’s the most defining characteristic of a tyrant. I was a Teddy & Ike Republican in the Reagan age. I saw the rise of the priest-kings and merchant-princes as an influence on that Party. I watched the politicians go from serving the people to dictating to them in my own party, while accusing the other party of it. I have seen the Republicans go from being anti-corporate, socialist, conservationist, conservative servants of the people to lording over the people. And they won’t accept questioning them. I’m one of the dozen or so people who wrote the Green New Deal for the Green Party in the US. I was brought in to help because I understand defense spending and defense priorities. I knew that everything I said was going to meet resistance within the party. Even as I explained why all of the things they wanted outside of the defense department were defense priorities as well, they still resisted it because they saw tyranny where there was none. It never dawned on them that they were the tyrants, refusing to be questioned. I may be rounded up with the undesirable people in the Trump administration. I’m a socialist, animist and LGBT, so I have three strikes against me. I’m Native American, so I can’t be deported. I will have no choice but to fight if they come looking for me. Pray my gun doesn’t jam if I am forced to defend myself from tyranny. Question everything. Let Saint Thomas be your guide.
I think we haven't said enough that if you live in a red state, you can definitely make a difference with your state and federal legislators. You can send them letters and emails or even visit them and let them know how you feel about anything coming down the system. I did this for many years on behalf of people with disabilities and it works really well and you can influence them. Make it personal to them about how things are affecting you. Not being rude or mean or threatening, just stating facts about you. If you call them you usually have to go through their staff, learn their names and ask them questions. Polite persistence we called it. It used to be you could contact any congressional people from other areas, but they have tried to tamp it down now. Anyway if you live in a red state, get your personal story together about how policies affect you and get busy!💓
Yes. I called out my pastor in Tennessee who teaches in Michigan at my past church. Got weak answers to my question. And silence on much of what I questioned. More worried about the job than people and the word of Jesus.
Thanks Reverend. Some church leaders need to decide who's laws matter most, those of men or those of God. And the ones who kneel before men, have no business telling us who to follow.

I have lived in Kentucky and in the same house for almost 69 years. I have traveled. However, I always came back to Kentucky. Before trump, I was happy here. Now, I do not recognize my family and friends anymore. I am afraid of what is still to come. Everyone I know is happily oblivious of the rug that is about to be pulled from beneath them. They honestly believe trump will protect them.
I’m reading about this very topic in a book called The Kingdom, The Power, and The Glory-American Evangelicals in an Age of Extremism by Tim Alberta. It talks about how preachers in the Church during the first Trump presidency were silenced and why evangelicals supported him despite his evil ways. It is reverting as it spells out how we as Christians have gotten here in a place of complicity. I highly recommend it. It just came out.
Like letting your family , business, church and political party leaders tell you who to vote fore instead of you becoming educated and choosing for yourself.
Those of us with freedom… Those of us with privilege… must speak up with, must walk beside those who are marginalized simply because of the way God created them. This support applies to all marginalized including non human persons and the Earth itself. For if WE do not speak up and act up who shall? Standing up is our responsibility
Thank you, Reverend. I am very sad that so-called "Christians" are complicit to the abhorrent behavior so openly demonstrated. I can only pray and TRUST in our dear Lord that true transformation is possible once things really blow up (and folks start realizing what a mistake this has all been). But even then, I am afraid many will still hold him up like a godly saint. What would Jesus do? He would pray for him and forgive him. Inasmuch as I wish I personally owned a magic wand to make this suffering go away, only our Dear Lord can calm the Tehon. So I sit quietly praying, with patience, forgiveness, gratitude, and hope. Lord will work in HIS time, not on my (our) schedule. Goodness will prevail. I hold onto that hope. Amen.

I will struggle to forgive so as to find peace
Speaking out against tyranny is speaking FOR the teachings of Jesus.
Gerald Ford nailed it with this quote: A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.”
Address to a Joint Session of Congress, August 12, 1974
Its in full affect! The church is almost invisible!
He then made the government bigger by consolidating power.
The ironic thing is that a physically larger government - that is, made of more of its citizens - is the smaller government than the "small government" wrapped up in layers of bureaucracy we have thanks to Republicans.
Resist yes....speak out yes...but do so with love and not violence. Speak out how Jesus taught. Show love to your enemies. It can be done
Beware when the silent man speaks. You are not silent, and you have a beautiful voice.
Amen🙏🏾
I'm amused by that people from the United States would have trouble with a citizen of any other nation talking about things in our country. Many of my fellow citizens have no trouble telling people from around the world hot they should live, act, ect...
We circularize ourselves even more. We also demean our own leaders, or at least one politician makes a career out of demeaning everyone who disagrees with him. We deserve what is being said about us. We also have lost the moral high ground and can never speak down to other again
@@davidellis4084 I'm not sure we ever had the moral high ground, except on occasion. I think the US could really benefit by looking at and admitting its true history, so we can relieve ourselves of the corruption and injustice it is still causing.
Amen ! God does not expect us to be silent. He tells us to stand for TRUTH. It is better to lose your life and find it, rather than save your life and lose it. I will die standing for what is right... Follow the cross. ❤
RBG said that one who is silent in the face of injustice sides with the oppressor. We must use our voices!
I just checked my local library - all formats of this book have holds on them! Obviously a popular topic.
Silence is consent. Always speak up at injustice.
When Peter was confronted , he denied Christ himself. I pray with all of my heart, body, mind and soul, that we have more strength when face to face with tyrannical authority.
That's a good example. Yes, we need to be strong! 💪 Put on the armour of God.
@@joycebrackbill-henderly8311Peter eventually came to a vastly stronger conviction. He'd been running on hot air, not the will of God. So many biblical signs tell us Trump and MAGA are bad news of enormous scope.
Trump is tyrannical but Biden wasn't?
Good time tao read up on Paul and his voluntaryimprisionment to help spread the Word of God and presenting his Case to Cesear
@waltnowpigpig5492 weird my comment was blocked. I guess talking about Jesus Christ the right way on the channel gets hidden?
Thank you for the book suggestion, I downloaded the audio version.
I've been listening and sharing your videos for a while. Thank you for speaking up. 🙏🏾
We need a Canadian to tell us, because we can't look within our own borders and admit something is seriously wrong down here.
Those with influence here in the States are concerned mostly with their own status and bank account balance.
Amen!
Amen! Amen! Amen!
Thank you for your encouragement ❤!
I encourage you to read Tim Snyder' sequel - On Freedom.
BTW - thank you for sharing this - I have personally gifted over 100 copies of On Tyranny to local libraries, schools and friends. This book is that important.
What is your definition of tyranny?
@danielpickrell8311 stop wasting good people's time.
Wow ! I love you for giving those books.
I left a church that was preaching the Christian nationalist movement and I had to leave there! I talked to the elders of the church and they were ok with the preacher teaching this ! I loved the people there but it was wrong to preach anything other than Jesus Christ!
What is wrong with making America as putting Jesus Christ first in the government?
Drives me crazy when certain preachers are complaining about immigrants and the border. Didn't Jesus say to welcome the stranger ? They are not doing that.
@doneestoner9945 my comments are getting blocked for speaking out against this channel and exposing truth
On that day ichabod had been stamp over the door of the church
Over the years I've witnessed the lack of anointing in the body.
Stand up, Speak up, Resist tyranny! Do Not Obey!
Yes, Amen.. keep speaking up Rev Ed...
Well said Resist or perish!💙💙
Wrong. God said His people will perish for lack of knowledge not resisting. When you have a government who is promoting the Bible nationally should not be an issue but when you have a government who is promoting worldly view above God is when you should resist and spread the Gospel.
Resist or see Darkness consume our Nation
@ikeus685 how is a nation with a push towards the Bible is considered darkness?
Everyone should have & read his books. Very good consise information.
I read his book a while ago. Great book. So true.
This is very good! You made me think.
Jesus did not consent. His victory is eternal and forever lasting.🙏🙏🙏love and peace, Fr Trevors
Then start following Jesus and speak up about prejudice against unhoused people !

I read that book a few years ago. Great book.
Rev Ed, keep being the voice for many of us. Blessings
Thanks Rev Ed.. God Bless 🕊️
This book is available at my local library as a e-book also known as an audiobook that you can download listen to 🙏
Thanks Rev Ed 🙏🏽👏🏽👍🏽 for speaking up
It amazes me that people don’t see tyranny bleeding out of every pore of Trump.
@ Yes but Trump has the best words. He told us so!
I am reading this book right now!
Speak out with love in your heart for "the enemy", not with self-righteous indignation!
Just ordered the book! Keep speaking the truth, Rev Ed!
You can't be speaking truth when he only speaks against Trump but not Biden who is promoting an antibiblical values in society?
Wilberforce 200 years ago spoke up against Slavery and Animal Cruelty....... but yet only one was dealt with
Thank you, Reverend Ed. It is kind of sad that this is the first I've heard an inkling of resistance from the part of "the church" I still hope has found inspiration from Jesus.
Just an FYI what was Jesus teaching during His ministry?
American who voted for Tramp. Believe that, he who possesses the most is, the most gifted to lead...
Sounds like the workings of some teenaged gang!
But he is a history professor who is simply warning us
based on what happened in the past.

I was thinking of the idiom of the wolf in sheep’s clothing. We all know who the wolf is, but I think all these religious leaders are the shepherds.
Jesus will condemn them. Because they led HIS flock to the abyss of not love but hatred.
Thank you!!!
Thanks Reverend. Some church leaders need to decide who's laws matter most, those of men or those of God. And the ones who kneel before men, have no business telling us who to follow.
Hmmmmm... Very interesting... So... You are saying we should follow God's laws as opposed to man's? Yet which one of the Presidential candidates... Which major political party, COMPLETELY OPPOSES GOD'S laws regarding murder? COMPLETELY OPPOSES GOD'S laws regarding marriage? COMPLETELY OPPOSES ANY Biblical morals and morality?
you had the right and responsibility to say something because pandemics by definition, do not respect borders
a shepherd's job, by definition, is to care for their flock
Thanks for Christian Sense. Even up here in Oz, we are being contaminated by the stupidity (SIN) being served up in the US. So sad that folks who profess to be Christian ignore our Lord's word. And worse that they seduce others into an eternity in hell. Praying for their salvation is urgent. Thanks for your clips, heartening in this post truth, post faith era. Blessings Bob

When it comes to atrocity, complacency is complicity.
Like letting your family , business, church and political party leaders tell you who to vote fore instead of you becoming educated and choosing for yourself.
America's freedom to choose and think for ourselves and, live as we want, within the law... has been diminished with Trump.
Those of us with freedom…
Those of us with privilege…
must speak up with, must walk beside those who are marginalized simply because of the way God created them.
Amen.
Do you abhor jailing unhoused people??
Christianity is a Greco-Roman religion and will go along.
I've read it. Now I have to learn how how to live it out.
Yes yes yes. The whole world have to condemn this administration !
Silence can be complicit

Resistance is NOT futile.
The church where I live seems Maga to me. Though I have talked to my priest about giving sermons about the importance of character in leaders or how migrants are human.

I compleetely agree with your thesis but suspect that our silence is not seen as consent, but convenient....
