    Oh! I didn't know that Gollum was influenced by Illuvatar for his downfall on mount Doom! Is that true? Did Eru had to intervene and make Gollum fall? Because that little detail sorts out all kinds of plot holes...

    • @Rotisiv
      @Rotisiv 3 месяца назад +12

      Yes, Tolkien made that clear in one of his letters. It was Eru or God who intervened in that moment of the book.

      Eru willing Gollum to fall feels kinda cheap imo, the movie version is much more profound, in the movie, Frodo and Gollum fight and struggle over the ring, it is the rings own power, its immeasurable draw from all beings to its influence, that is its destruction, they fall whilst fighting over the ring. The evil nature of the ring is its very undoing.

    • @simon_lukas
      @simon_lukas Месяц назад +2

      If I remember correctly Frodo cursed Gollum to throw hinself into the fires of Doom if he ever tried to steal the ring. And by the power of the ring, his word became world shaping magic.
      I like the interpretation that Sauron nearly won, because his might corrups even the pures soul - but in the end Gandalf won, because he spared a corrupted creature.

      @@simon_lukas Oh nice! I love this version! All that Eru had to do, is a liiiiiiiiiiiiiitle bit of nudge, and golum falls into the fire.
      Personally I love this idea by Tolkien, the fact that the plot shield, really is a plot shield, but its a plot shield by the God himself... Still everything had to have happened in as they did order for God to step in and put on the final piece. So it takes nothing away from the story!
      This solves so much stuff. And personally it also solves something about my version of the story.
      If you know me, I like to twist and change the stories in my head... (Its my head so I can do whatever I want with it XD) ... So in my own version - (which I don't know if it has any merit according to Tolkien) - Sauron actually wanted to have the mountain with no Guards, to lure in even those who are activelly trying to destroy the ring... Sauron (in my story) new that no being would every be able to cast the ring to the fire. So all that Sauron had to do, was chill and let someone bring the ring to him ultimatelly...
      But here, God himself steps in and finishes the job, so thats pretty epic!
      So yea, in my own version of the story, Sauron is setting up a trap, all along the way, so that Frodo would bring the ring to him, all while never crossing his mind that this is exactly what Sauron wants!
      Ok, back to reality :D

    I once thought that Eru allowed Melcor to sing his own songs, just to prove to everyone else how much lesser it sounds than his own. But that is not what happened right?

    • @Jansenbaker
      @Jansenbaker 2 месяца назад +2

      Eru states after the 3rd theme, that nothing Melkor can do is totally destructive, as ultimately everything that happens has its source in Illuvatar.
      So Melkor's attempts in the music just get woven in like it was always the plan... because it was.
      Or at least that's how I see it.
      Edit: Yeah, that sounds like nobody can actually make choices.
      I just mean that Eru wasn't taken by surprise, let Melkor do his thing, and said it didn't ruin anything.

      @@-_Nuke_- In the Silmarillion, it's explained somewhat that the Maiar, Valar, and Elves are all bound into Illuvitar's "song of creation" so to speak, and are literally incapable of acting outside of it. Melkior/Morgoth attempted to do so, but ultimately was unable to. Only Humans explicitly have the "gift" of being able to create and act outside of the song; they are not predestined to play any special role in the harmony.
