Well said Terry, there is no atmosphere in Saudi no matter how anyone tries to convince otherwise. Even Carl Froch seems on board with them now seeing as he was there too.
I listened to this earlier on Spotify, but I'm glad to listen again, because here I can air a disagreement. At around 10:40 Terry says "when you see Usyk's expressions during interviews, there's no warmth there" I completely disagree. I think Usyk is humorous, and lighthearted during interviews. He changes for the ring of course. But yeah, I really don't get where Terry is coming from there.
Yeah, he seems genuine to me on that front. If his face seems a bit emotionless maybe it's because he has to concentrate a lot because of the language difference. Of course, he wouldnt be at that level if he couldn't change it up in the ring. But there are many top fighters and competitors in general that are not nasty psychos in all areas of life.
Usyk has a dry sense of humour and he’s adapted brilliantly to his audience which is mainly Brits. He’s now 7-0 against UK fighters. Too elaborate on the point your raising is that Usyk has the ability to read the room and play the interviewer but the his focus is to always maintain on being a ruthless operator. Ice Cold dude with the best skillset in his category.
I think the argument "Usyk doesn't have Hall of Famers on his resume so he loses to the top 90's guys" is way too basic of an argument. He's a superior technician to all of those guys and would probably pick up multiple big wins in that era. Same goes for Crawford.
I listen to Beyond Boxing while walking - don't agree with every opinion, but love the insight and always enjoy it. It would be great to know Terry's take on what the end game is for boxing in Saudi. Clearly and expectedly [for a startup], the bottom line is currently red. But how red, and how long until a positive financial return could be expected? I include tourism within this, which would ordinarily be a reasonable expectation for improvement. The consensus seems to be that the hotels are amazing, with food standards to rival anywhere. Yet it's hard to get around, [harder to get there] and there's not much to do. No mention of prices. For a Vegas fight, there would be 'package deals.' Couldn't find any for Usyk-Fury.
Boxing ain't dying imo, it's just getting started, I agree we need credible contenders and the comfort of knowing what the next set of British superstars looks like to keep us boxing fans interested, but imo it's never been like that, talent and stars are created by a combination of the fans love and the boxers passion and drive, the odd nailed on star like Lennox Lewis will always fulfill their potential but the majority won't, we will always get star boxers because most young British men wanna be the champ and save the day and by default we will always get world class boxers for such a small country. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Canelo , Crawford and Inoue didn’t fight guys 50lbs heavier did they , they moved and a few pounds in Inoue’s case . Funny how George Foreman is on the greats list with 2 title defences against Joe Roman and Ken Norton then was knocked out against Ali in his 3rd defence and other than beating Moorer beat nobody in his comeback
I must admit, interesting take. I have never heard that usyk could have possibly have had nerve surgery, to block out pain. I don't know , where u got that from sir.
Lol, pleased that I'm not the only one who can record without audio. Re big fights, to me it seems somehow 'artificial' with no big, somewhat knowledgeable crowd. The Saudis seem more interested in their phones than the fight tbh.
Best review of the fight I’ve heard. Love Terrys breakdown. Always fair and on point
Much appreciated

When they on the ol bunsen burner they all talk shit . Zero atmosphere there 🏴 they just aint sports fans
It's the lack of alcohol, let's be honest
They all just stare at their phones
Carl Froch is another prostitute. Licking Ben Quiteker arse....and sniffing around GAD..and Spencer coke head.
The thought of being beheaded for saying something in Saudi sort of kills the atmosphere and stops you letting yourself go like you can over here
Dont worry itll be like that here with sharia kier
Indeed!

The rocky tunes stand on their own. No need fir that shit drummer, the tea towels never even miked it up properly
He’s not Italian, his name is Thomas Pridgen and he’s from the US.

Why is terry not an usyk fan?
