It is actually physically forbidden by Heisenberg's uncertainty principle to play this fast and this clean at the same time. This is the proof that Guthrie must be out of this world. Q.e.d.
Idk if anyone else can hear it but I can hear soooo much les Paul influence ! Now obviously a lot more fluid, and better and technical, and impressive here Lol I mean Guthrie is the goat, but it just reminded me so much of less Paul in the 50s and 60s Les Paul at one time was the greatest ! So many people go straight to hendrix as the grand father but it was really les. I mean les was doing things in the 50s unheard of at that time in lead guitar
It's most definitely all crosspicking with a couple of economy picked notes in there. Transcribing this right now and I can't understand how he is able to crosspick at this speed.
@@kali3828 Nope. Even after learning some of it, it's way easier to just floor it and do pure alternate picking. It's too much work to coordinate which parts you should economy pick (at least for me, and I'm sure it might be for guthrie as well). Even then I can barely play it. Biggest takeaway here is that guthrie is a monster
He definitely should be. Honestly I found out about GG when he did a periphery guest solo in like 2012 and he absolutely blew my mind, you could hear that he was improvising but it was impeccable playing anyway. Since then I try to tell people about him and I'm always surprised how many people have no clue who he is.
That's more notes than I ever played in my life combined.
😂
The dude is the Shaolin Master of guitar playing.

Guthrie is the singularity of guitar
Haha good one
Jesus Christ Guitar Legend Superstar
I lost it while the guitar sounded like whammy shredding
The GOAT
For those that asked (and those that didn't)
Bass: Toshimi Nagai
no... it's CJ Hann (한철재)
This is what peak performance looks like, you may not like it, but this is the ideal guitar playing.
Yeah man, right on! With love from Rhode Island.
I wonder why youtube never recommends this to me after 1000+ Guthrie videos that I've watched. Weird.
Weird indeed, but you should watch the whole concert. It’s epic, and great interviews in between
@@caprise-music6722 thank you. Now I'm on GG binge haha
I literally checked it wasnt on x2 speed when I started the video haha
the bass player is also amazing!
Yeah, gotta give that guy props as well. He's just casually tossing in tasty licks like it's nothing.
@@joshs.5384 Exactly!

Yeah, Govan is great and all but can we appreciate bouncing skills of the bass player? Impossible moves.
Filip Rumanovič I urge you to watch this bass player play smoke on the water with guthrie
This bass player is horrific

How does he pick at lightning speed!? What picking technique does he incorporate (upward pick slant, cross picking?)
Shannon and the Silent Riot you should watch some of his tutorials he did with licklibrary
Economy picking, slant picking, hybrid picking, and of course just being absolute God tier.

Johnny Hiland would like this.
I have to imagine this was at least somewhat inspired by Dixie Dregs The Bash
Is jason richardson inspired by this man??
