My cousin gave me a abu garcia bass usa 4600c that was behaving similar to this one. Almost like a bearing was going out. Turns out it was the thumb bar pin had slid back into the thumb bar. You'd hafta slide the thumb bar to the right to disengage the spool. And when you would turn the handle, the arm would slide up over the thumb bar pin, causing everything to be out of alignment. I pulled the thumb bar pin out a little and fixed it. Good as new
I have several of the Abu Promax 1600's that i picked up at fleamarkets. If i remember correctly they came out in the early to mid 90's and retailed for around $175.00 or more. Im thinking they were the last of ABU's "flagship" reels prior to the out-sourcing their reel manufacturing to the Asian countries. Whst are the differences between the Promax 1600's and the Silver max shown in the video?
I have done the ceramic bearing upgrades. I don't notice much difference in performance, but the ceramic, unlike the steel bearings will not rust. I got the bearings from several sellers and have never paid attention to the brand. Thank for asking - Dennis
Question, can you greese the drag washers? I noticed you don't greese them, but some other guys do. I'm confused whether to greese them or not. Thanks!
Sure - there are 3 types of washers. Felt, fabric (leather other) and hard like teflon or carbon. They are in two classes - permeable and non-permeable. Permeable can take grease or oil and absorb it. Hard washers cannot. I oil felt washer, grease fabric washers and do nothing with hard washers. The oil and greases are meant to keep the washers from drying out and cracking. That is the only purpose. Dennis
As always Dennis a great and thorough job.
Already put on new line and can't wait to get her on the water!!!! Thanks Dennis!!!
I appreciate that. Thanks
Great job Sir , that is one of favorite for all my Abu round reel. From trout to strippers & catfish, had no problem.wish Abu had green or red .
I'll bet those are great reels for all those fish - Glad to have helped keep them fishing - Dennis
Liking that little 3600. I don't think I've seen one before. Would be great for surfcasting to California Halibut. I do love to say Aabuuuuuuu......
This is a nice casting reel. I am not sure about the line capacity you need for the Halibut. This reel does not hold a lot of line - Dennis
Thank you

Thanks for the note. Glad to hear you were able to give the reel a 2nd Chance

These two reels are nearly identical internally. The industrial design of the case would be the biggest difference. Thanks for asking - Dennis
@@2ndChanceTackle what are the differences in the design of the cases?
Hello! Question for you,on most Abu Garcia reels which is best and last the longest a thumbar or a pushbutton release for the spool? Thank you
I find that the push button has less failures
Have you ever replaced the spool bearings with ceramic bearings? And if so what brand do you recommend?

Have you every done a mod 1888 ???
Which manufacturer?
Does this reel really have all 8 bearings
Hmmm - I didn't count them. That would be unusual, but sometimes they add bearings to the handles and other places where they have minimum advantage
