6:40 That salute made my day!
Yeah that's really cool
When I was with the air cadets ,I flew with the US Air Force from Middlenhall England ,and we refuelled six F 16’s over Iceland ,it was an amazing experience and the yanks were so friendly and nice to us ,I would love to do it again ,
I was a KC-10 Extender mender. We got the KC-10 when it first came into the Air Force inventory. I was stationed at March AFB, California from 1982- 1985. It was an awesome airplane to work on.
I'm working on the MD-11. Still an awesome airplane. They took the best of the DC-10 and made it even better (except for the horizontal stab).
We've had a USAF KC-10 overnight in FRA a few months back. I would have loved to get a chance to get a look inside... unfortunately there was no crew there during the night. still awesome to look at from the outside.
I was 2 CAMS on Barksdale 81-85. Not too sure about you March guys...... ;) lol
We still call you all Gucci Boys
Rorique Vernon II lol
7:11 How ominous does that 30mm on the A-10 look creeping into the scene when you weren't sure what was next..
I was thinking the exact same thing.
1:05 and that menacing engine noise, I absolutely adore it.
3:58 is how planes are made.

Okay... So It's not about those SUCCESSION JOBS in the beddings... Right???oㅅo??

Loving those moustaches. It’s 1990/91 all over again!
Man, that is cool! I bet it never gets old for the people involved!
Love how as the A-10 was creeping up, the first recognizable thing you could see was the BRRRRRPPPP
Great people who do these fantastic jobs!
i was a KC-10 Instructor Boom Operator. 1986-1999. ...back then you had to have KC-135 boom operator experience first. The actual ground course for the 10 boom was only 3 weeks. then you had to have so many flights to get signed off for air refueling, and then more training flights for the cargo loading aspect.
how long does it take to do the fuel transfer?
for the fighters, anywhere between 2400-4800 lbs per minute using 2 pumps. for the heavies, using all 4 pumps, i've seen it go as high as 7900 lbs per minutes. it all depends on the emptiness of the tanks, as the tanks get fuller to top off, less pumps are needed.
but a c5 would need to refuel from at least 2 or 3 tanker aircraft no? i'm guessing upward of 45 minutes. i could be wrong.
Jonas Hofer it depended on how much he needed to get where he was going. KC-10's max fuel load 356,000 lbs. (divide it by 6.7 to get gallons). I think C-5's can top off of fuel around 200,000. again it all depends on how much cargo they have on and where they are going. all aircraft have a max take off, in flight, and landing weights. weight is weight, be it gas, passengers, or fuel.
Randy Johnson I was thinking of a c5 coming in almost empty for a full top up but im sure that doesn't happen often and like you say each mission is different. Thanks for the info.
Some of the best footage of air refueling. 🇺🇸
For safety reason, please turn off your engine when refueling
😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
also turn off your radio
woops
Lmfao!!!
Awesome workplace!
Amazing, they make it look so easy ! Great skill 👌👌👌👏👏👏👏

Whatsuuup buddy
holy shit
Hold up a kc-10 just refueld a kc-10
*I thought they had infinite fuel*
I'm not sure if you are being completely sincere, however I don't think they feed from the tank that fills other planes, though I could be completely wrong.
@@Vortechtral they share the same fuel they pass on to other aircraft. For the most part, equipment is designed to operate off of one type of fuel for simplicity. There isn't a reason to separate the fuel (flight crews have to monitor fuel loads all the time, anyway because they use it per flight, not like how ewe can just throw some in the gas tank and forget about checking the gas gauge for a few days). The exception that I know about is the KC-135Q(T). Those tankers had separate fuel tanks to carry the SR-71's specialized fuel.
@@roriquevernonii8439 the 10s did it back in the day also for sr-71 put the jp7 in the center tank I was crew chief 14 years on kc-10s
@@waterboy4597 I actually learned that since I posted that last. Nice to meet a Gucci boy (I was E-3 E/E)!
Lol haven't herd that term in a while the 141s we're just jealous of us nice to meet you I was stationed at mcguire crew chief funny story when the c-17s rolled in they called them the armani boys cause they were the latest and greatest

Satisfying video
Video must have been shot during mustache March.
Really, what is the thing with the mustache. I could be wrong, but I think the other kc10 refueling pilot had one too.
So cool awesome 😎
Wow! The folks in the Aircraft Paint shop would love the SKILL of this Boomer ! He was dead-on target, No Scratches in the paint! Sweeeeeet. 15 plus years USAF......the F-16 is My Girl. Love that gorgeous fighter plane.
I flew that one. 32nd ARS
That's our bird from JBMDL. We're "fueling up the pump" and feeding the Falcon and Hog. All in a day's work.
I would say "Have wonderful brrrrrt day"
A-10 painting kinda Cute
Just about every weekend this summer that KC-10 from McGuire in NJ does race track ovals at 25,000 ft all day long over South Jersey.
The tanker shows up on Flightradar24 but not the jets being refueled.
Sometimes it sounds like a regular air show up there.
Occasionally it gets annoying hearing the jet engines all day long.
All plane are cool, but them A10 Warthogs are a beast.
The visual systems on the KC-135 and KC-10 are the best…the Mark 1 eyeball.
Wow c-10
Tell the A-10 pilot to kick some brrrrrrrt!
Good thing is you dont have to pay for the fuel
But you do ( taxes )
Good Jobs...😊👍👍
Cool 😎
Ювелирная работа!
I’m surprised they don’t do the MD-10 conversion. Once fed ex retired theirs you can take out the glass cockpit and install it in the KC-10
Fed Ex offered years ago and the Air Force said no,
Is it a thing to have a "stache" in those KC-10s? Third video in a row I watch from different crews on different channels and all crew had one?
it is a "desert 'stach" thing...all aircrew do it when deployed:)

Anyone know why sometimes you can see the A10s carry the american flag in their cockpit? You can see it folded on pilots right side right of the hud at 8:37
They will fly it on their missions for people. It’ll come with a certificate saying it was flown over X country by X pilot during X mission. It’s a good morale boost for us on the ground
A lot of US military planes will "fly flags" on various missions. This adds significance to the flag being given to someone, it now has some history attached to it.
wow

Loving the mustaches. Can we get it back in fashion please?
What is the rotation speed of this plane?
Lucky guys😊
You have an FE
A-10s have it easy. One of the few aircraft where both the Boom Operator AND receiver pilot can see the same view.
Fun fact. The A-10 is at max and the 10 is almost at stall to make the refuel happen. Its the reverse with the SR-71.
Лайк за кантик!)
if i qualify for this job, I want it! that'd be awesome to be a boom operator
so you want to be a boomer
@barry mike probably RAF Mildenhall, near Cambridge (i think).
I dont believe there is know greater talent!

the f16 one is really really hard

Flying Gas Station refuelling another Flying Gas Station.
*Big brain time*
specialist!
I mustache you a question.
No wake turbulence at high altitude?
The closer you get the less sale yoi get hit by (actually it's the Same ampunt of air being pusher around bit way less turbulent). There are standard procedures to approach the tanker, get behind it and get close enough to refuel. Said procedures are studied according to the refueler and the refueling aircrafts so to minimize the turbulence impact plus all other safety aspects
i hope a pilot calls a boom operator "boomer" just so they can say "ok boomer"
Lumps there was an attempt
I want your level of intelligence ..
Damn, I don't want to be in that pilot's skin during the shame he'll pass.
I'm INDIAN, America is perfect...
A gas station attendant on steroids. Awesome job! Very proud!

Too bad i couldn't have been smart enought to do this kind of work when i was in air force and way younger.
👍👍🙏🙏
The F16 pilot is not really touching his throttle during refuel. Is he on some kind of Auto-pilot?
You never fly AAR on autopilot (i mean aircraft that is refuelled). It is always manual. F-16 has autopilot but no autothrottle.
Was one of the conditions to be hired for this job to have a mustache? :p Great video, tho. :)
areis have I nice vision

We call it the "Deployment 'Stache". A lot of us grow them when we're on the road.
Does anyone knows how long is this training? Thanks
when i was in, you had to be a prior KC-135 boom. you already knew air refueling. they just taught you a different system, so it took 4 weeks of ground and simulator training. they you flew with line instructors for training until you were qualified in the air refueling portion. after that, you started your cargo loading training. all of that depends on how many flights you need before your check rides.
Oliver Acosta slightly over a year my friend
I used the KC-10 to refuel the KC-10

what is the sense of one tanker giving fuel to another one ? Why not exchanging the aircrafts, "empty" tanker lands, full one takes over ?
bobl78 a lot of the times they’re not even passing fuel, They’re just doing practice contacts off of one another.
Training. We called it swapping spit. And depending on the mission it could be that the receiving acft was coming from distance and needed fuel to continue.
A good example of tankers refuelling each other is the RAF using the Vulcan to fly down to Argentina on a bombing run during the Falkland War. They had one bomber and I think about 12 tankers. The tankers would give the next set of tankers plus the bomber enough fuel to get to the leg of the trip before turning back home.
Why they dont land and refuel?
That takes more time, and you can’t always land especially when in combat flying over enemy countries.

It is. They took the DC-10 airliner and modified it for this job.
What do F16 pilots line up on? Warthogs just look at the boom, but F16’s have to look at something else cuz boom is behind them.

Boeing should replace the KC-10 Extender with the KC-11 which is based on the MD-11 commercial airliner!!! infact Boeing should also replace the KC-76 with a KC-76-3 mid air refueling tanker aircraft based on the larger B767-300 ER (stretched variant) commercial airliner!!! or the B767-400 ER for that matter which is a further stretched version of the B767-300 ER!!! call it the KC-76-4 if you will!!! both are stretched version of the B767-200 ER only that the B767-400 ER being the longest stretch variant of the B767 WBJ family!!!
