@@HenryMyth Capitalism has allowed for numerous competitors to take on Pokemon and for consumers to decide that those games were not as good or enjoyable. Capitalism also allowed for a 4 developer studio to create PalWorld and have it take on Pokemon.

You are missing out not playing Yakuza, Rand. I've never played a Yakuza game until Like A Dragon and now i'm hooked. It's extremely rare that i've been so invested in the characters in a game. It tackles serious themes and it tugs at your heartstrings like very few games do, on the other hand it can also be wonderfully goofy and weird. Very unique mix that for some reason just works.
Defintely Yakuza/like a dragon games are amazing. 3 was hard to get into because the Intro was rough.

I know Jez was excited for it.. but a game in development for 6 years.. with no real end in sight.. and developers wanting to *switch* engines after 6 years (meaning multiple years more development if they go back onto Unreal Engine).. sounds like a nightmare.
I don't care if the prototype & vertical slices looked fun.. hell, i remember the Anthem vertical slice looking awesome too. But a game shouldn't take close to 10 years to make. Sometimes, you really do gotta get yer head outta those dreamy clouds and recognize when a project isn't coming together.
Now we have details on Odyssey's development.. yes, it should have been cancelled/rebooted.. years ago.
The only games that are understandable as to why they take 10 or so years to make are massive tentpole titles like GTA 6 or The Elder Scrolls 6. But even then, it's not like either of those games have or will be in full production for 10 years. TES6 just started full development, and GTA6 started full development in late 2018 after the release of RDR2.

Jesus Fing Christ. Layoffs happen. What is Microsoft supposed to keep two HR departments two Marketing departments etc. then if Microsoft gets in financial trouble people would say zmicrosoft should have managed their resources better. Whatever they do someone will have a negative take on it. I worked for a government contract and I got laid off. I didn’t see or hear anyone crying for me. I survived. Jesus Christ. No company owes you employment. Most states are fires at will. They can fire you for no reason at all. So yes this isn’t a good thing but it happens. So when Microsoft gets rid of physical media are they supposed to keep the physical media team when their is no work for them. How sheltered are you people. This is real life. For Christ sake. People lose jobs. Het over it. You act like Microsoft did this on purpose. I feel bad for these employees. But on the positive side iit was done after the holidays. How would you feel to be jobless during the holidays. Not good. Typically I’m cool with the topics but it seems like there is always one topic that I think goes off the rails. Yes people got laid off it happens move on.

B S. I lost my job and have a chronic illness and got my medications for free in America. And basic health insurance. Wasn’t great but I had something u til I found employment. You have to know hwho to ask. State resource and city services.

The company I work with is laying off over 14% of our engineers and 4 out of the 12 people in my department. This after posting our companies biggest year every. The reason? The next year outlook is very bleak with a very little amount of work on the books. Companies don't look at the right here and now, they look 3-5 years in the future and adjust manpower as needed.
So if Palword is so great it doesn’t mean Oddesy is going to be great. Other Xbox centric podcast have said the Blizzard game had frame rate drops and other issues. And they think Booty felt like all this time and investment and that games wasn’t ready. Kill it. What we need another Redfall. Then people would blame Booty again. May. booty is gangsta. And I think it’s cool. New respect for Matt Booty
Agreed, you have to remember they want to put games out. The fact that they cancelled it means they thought it was another Redfall
Yeah it seems a bit strange to specifically mention “how could they let Redfall slip through?” then act bewildered that they would cancel this game. Obviously they’re seeing the full picture, and not curated footage/builds being shared with gaming press.

Saying Odyssey might not be good because someone in a podcast said it had "frame rate drops and other issues" (a game still in development btw) is pretty silly.
Really disappointed in Jez reporting , on abk is has objectively terrible
-he has no sources but know Mike Ybarra was fired and NOT left on his own after Booty is now his boss and his pet project Odyssey canceled n team dissolved
-Jez making it seem msft is to blame for imminent death of physical disc's only to back track
-Odyssey was nowhere close to release much less a reveal . Jez never reported that Odyssey was already 6yrs in development and NOBODY outside of Jez was ever excited for it.
As for Jez opinion. Has msft not allowed to cancel one or more games out of dozens of other like every other publisher. Has msft closed any of studios they have acquired since 2017?
Weren't staff at Windows Central laid off and Jez survived those layoffs and was promoted. How can you cover the industry and act like corporate layoffs don't happen.
Jez way too close to Blizzard situation. Blizzard is not part of xbox, each or their IP for oc n console must be weighed against all other projects in msft portfolio in terms of importance
There are people in the gaming industry and community who don't know Microsoft acquired ZeniMax/Bethesda so I'm sure most people don't know they acquired ABK. The majority of the gaming community is very uninformed unfortunately.

So you’re going to tell me ABK was run like a well oiled machine. That it was efficient and had no issues before Microsoft bought them. Devs being forced to crunch to meet deadlines. Sexual assault depiscrimination , harassment of employees, the California EEOC or an organization like that was going to sue ABK. Yet Microsoft starts making changes and lays off 1,900 and now bad Microsoft. When I think I can get through a show and give a thumbs up then there’s a topic like this. I’m glad you two aren’t running Microsoft because it would probably been out of business years ago. And I’m sure you’re pissed that Mike Ybarra left or was pushed out. That guy had made statements in the past that were very critical and I feel like hating on Microsoft so I don’t really care. Maybe these changes will be for the better. Sometimes the old has to go for fresh new ideas. Because the status quo wasn’t working for ABK. The reason they wanted to be bought in the first place.

Did Jez ever talk more about that one Halo tweet a month or so ago where he said "what if the next Halo is just the Campaign and Story..."? Would be interesting if he actually had some intel on that or not since the Halo community is currently having a meltdown.

I have never played pokemon in my life and I'm not into the art style of that game or this game

@King_Slime1xp it's a really fun gameplay loop so I tolerate the art style. I might try other survival games as well but feom what I understand this game is an amalgamation of those games not a direct copy of any of them

Dragon Quest (Armor, Square Enix (Nintendo as publisher in parts of the world))was first with the art style.
Then pokemon (played on Ds lite, using back compat to transfer some from GBA, as deep as Ev training)

You both complained when red fall wasnt cancelled when it released in the state it did amd called for action that any other game that was looking in a bad state should be cancelled. Xbox learned from that, looked at odyssey that has been confirmed to have had engine problems,. obviously saw it was in a poor shape and cancelled it. Yet you atill complain.
You cant say the game looked great based on a very small gameplay vid of a small portion of a game that was probably tailor made to make the game look better than it actually was

No an awful look was all the claims of sexual harassment by ABK management and executives. An awful look was when a a woman and a man were both supposed to run Blizzard it turns out the man was being paid more money than the woman to do the same job. That’s an awful look. And that’s how Blizzard ran the company. And now because Microsoft laid off people that’s a bad look. Who know Xbox supporter were doing the Xbox tax on Microsoft too.

It was fun, but it really seems like the test run for a much more fleshed-out sequel (kind of like Assassin’s Creed 1)
Complains about Diablo season being horrible, cod gets shit on every year and the latest update broke the game, redundant positions. Of course there is layoffs. Performance based alone plenty deserved to go. Maybe now the players won’t be the tester for updates….now when they hire more people be sure to highlight that but I’m sure we won’t

34:00 - The end of Xbox is near guys. I’ve been with Xbox for 12 years but if they put a single exclusive to other consoles I will never buy a Xbox again.
For Jez, Monster Hunter did exist during the 7th gen. However it was primarily, daresay, exclusively on PSP for most of it. However, 360 in Japan got an online Monster Hunter. Man, Xbox made some fun moves to get inroads in Japan during that gen. I know they've done fairly well with Xbox One in the backhalf and much better with the Series platform for getting those games. However I can't help but feel the moves were more legitimate in the 360 era, in part because they funded 1st/2nd party Japanese games too.
As someone who stuck with Xbox even thru the Xbox one generation this is the most disappointed I’ve been in them in a long time. For a company that keeps harping on and on abt how they want to continue investing in video games maybe I don’t want them to continue investing in games. I can understand that redundant jobs where going to be lost but this was cost cutting it was something I expected of Bobby kotic.
All corporations are evil and the senior management at Xbox should be ashamed of themselves.

Well bc they plan to deep dive into that topic and have a structured podcast. Get the housekeeping done first etc. Better for timestamps also instead of bits and pieces being discussed all over the place
