    why is the needle perpendicular to the plane of the coil?, it should be in the place of the coil i suppose correct me if i'm wrong

      The plane of the coil should along the magnetic meridian.
      Therefore it is set in such a way that the compass needle and plane of the coil must be in the same plane.
      Only then magnetic field due to current flow will automatically perpendicular to the magnetic needle( I.e) horizontal component of earth's magnetic field) as per tangent law.
