    The Windows Permissions System is something I was annoyed at my whole life but never really looked into, the pointer to special identities was very helpful

    As an IT Tech i want to thank you for your videos! not only is it a good good resource it also gives us a good recap over things that we may have forgotten over time! im currently locking down on resources on my server and this has given me a better insight into how i can lock and manage more efficiently.
    also same as Jeff Tan bellow, covering deny permissions would be great if you could in the next video update!
    keep up the good work

    Thanks for the reminder. Now I would like videos about advanced permissions, special users and can you tell me how to create a dropbox or suggestion box. Like a folder that everyone can see in domain, but cannot enter in that folder but anyone is able to drop a file inside that folder. This is to ensure privacy.

    Does modify allow removing the folder? My current IT course tells me this.
    It also says that read & execute allows changing a folder into a subfolder.

    • @itfreetraining
      @itfreetraining  2 года назад

      If you are using basic permission, modify allows you to delete files and folders. Read and Execute allows you to transverse folders.

    I want to be able to access files in a folder through a file shortcut on the desktop etc, or if I search the file in the taskbar search box. I want to be able to open the files this way. But I don't want to be able to open the folder to see and access the files. But another problem I noticed is you can copy and paste the folder to another location, so it just makes a copy of the folder and files, then when you copy and paste the folder and files to another location you can open the folder and files. All the permissions are changed and everything is allowed. How can I block the copy and paste of these folders and files?

    When you tick Allow Read on a folder why doesn't in automatically tick List folder contents in the same way the other permissions do?

    whats the difference between admin and administrators permission?

    • @itfreetraining
      @itfreetraining  2 года назад

      Admin is generally referring to the admin account. Administrators are generally referring to the administrator group. The admin account is generally put into the admin group and that gives it administrator access.

    Let's say I take a document, make its permission List Folder Content, and stick it on a usb drive. If I put this drive in a different computer on a different network, could an administrator still use the backdoor trick to change the owner so he or she could change permissions again? I'm guessing no. If not, could this be done on a different computer but the same domain?

    • @itfreetraining
      @itfreetraining  7 лет назад +1

      Technically speaking, unless its encrypted or the device is configured as Read-Only, those permissions will not protect it from reassigning ownership.

    • @itfreetraining
      @itfreetraining  6 лет назад

      Why are you trying to remove the permissions? Those are needed for the system to function.

    I have a ques. On my WIn7 laptop I created a new user called testuser1 and this account has no Admin rights. I created a folder under my Admin account called Test. Now I log off as admin and login as testuser1 and this account can delete this folder? What I am doing wrong? Thanks.

    • @itfreetraining
      @itfreetraining  9 лет назад

      +Joe Morgan Have a look at the permissions. I am guessing that it inherited the permissions from the c drive. This may give the general user the ability to delete the folder. If you want to change it, disable inherited and then configured the permissions how you want.

    anybody know how to allow users to create/save files but prevent them from modifying other users files. only way I could get it to work was to use special permissions for the user group and disable create folder/append files however it doesn't feel right. seems like there should be a simpler solution.
