I am still in favor of trying to find a 2008 Aura and if at all possible finding of one for the right price, I'll jump on that deal! Of the Aura years that they were made, I like the looks and attention to detail on the 08 the best!! I've owned an 03 Saturn Ion 3 over a 6 year period when it was still on the road and that car caught more hell then just about any person on the road driving these Ion's! I drove it mercilessly like a madman and it absolutely held up to my torture! I still have it parked due to a bad starter and variously brake and fuel lines rusted out and the back carriage suspension is also rusted like crazy, but I did try to sell it for 300 clams but of only one person whom did try to attempt to buy it from me would budge! The motor is still solid, the transmission has far less miles than the engine because of being replaced because of a faulty Transmission valve body and yet it still only has about 130K miles on it! As a parts car, even to this very day, in my eyes it is still worth 300 bucks to the right person that is trying to purposely lowball me!! My son wants me to part with it although these junkyards are only willing to offer on average about 150 bucks and I just hate that!!!
I had a 08 Malibu which looks like this car exactly. It run fine at 165K miles, so I traded it in on a new Impala. Impala has never given me a problem.
You must have got struck by lightning sleeping in you driveway they went away over a decade ago ! They didn’t go bankrupt they GM just stopped making them .
Saturns werent bad. They gave people free car washes, doors were undentable, and they were reliable. The vue even had a Honda Engine Also i got a commercial for bankruptcy lawyer during this vid lol
Yeah but at the same time I've seen enough 2000s Impalas broken down to stay away but in my opinion any thing after the b body was trash any way 😂 with the 2016 ss being the exception
We still run a 2005 Buick LeSabre, but knowing how bad that Dex-Cool was, particularly on head gaskets, we quickly switched it over to full concentrate green (black cap) Prestone. I've also run the same 100% rated coolant on my 2003 Dodge Caravan, and never had any coolant problems with it at that strength. I don't like ANY water in the coolant!
I'm still driving my 2002 v6 Saturn LW300 wagon, which I bought used in 2007. I love this car! All things considered, it's been very reliable, still looks presentable, doesn't rust, starts easily on the coldest days, and has a driver's seat that is more comfortable than any chair in my house. It's about to turn over 155,000 miles. I pat its steering wheel often and tell it what a good car it is. I hope we have another 150,000 miles together.
My dad worked for Anchor Fasteners. They made parts for the big three, and he was one of the toolmakers they chose to make original stampings for the top secret car line GM was starting. GM held all their suppliers to a higher standard on Saturn, sending back tons of parts if even one was wrong. It was a good effort, but the bean counters did the company in
I bought a used Saturn while living in Hawaii, I drove it for 10 yrs only had it in machakos once but every year it had to pass a safety check and it passed every year. Someone tried prying the window to get in but didnt get inside but I had to take the window out but it was warm and sunny most days. When I got ready to move back to Ohio I gave the car to the church and it was still running great.
Scotty, question. Recently, I was in Tampa, a friend who rented a mitsubishi outlander. What do you think about Mitsubishi outlander? Thanks, and the great content.
Hey scotty whats fun about these, that saturn is a malibu and an impala AND shares almost every part with my pontiac g6 😂😂 though im noticing this saturn uses the chevy cobalt steering wheel/cluster/ and radio. I hope you and the family are doing well scotty! :)
Hey Scotty, you better start changing your tune with some brutal honesty. Toyota is taking a dump. Honda's problems are often them venturing out from an engineering standpoint and now Toyota is finding themselves in the same technology position. It's easy to maintain bulletproof reliability when you keep the same V6 unchanged for the last 15 years.
A friend of mine had a Saturn SL1. It was pretty basic and only had the 85 hp engine but it was simple and easy to work on. Where he got lucky was that his had the manual transmission. Those automatics weren't terrible but they usually gave up the ghost around 100,000 miles.
My wife and I almost bought a new saturn many years ago. Salesman gave us the keys to take one home for the night and on the way home we went over some railroad tracks and all of a sudden the electrical system started acting up, lights flickering, the radio going on and off and the engine started acting up. We looked at each other and said nope and turned around and took the car back. I don't remember what I said to the salesman, but I do remember he had a surprised look on his face when we come pulling into the lot.
I had a Saturn with a Honda v6. HORRIBLE gas mileage. The best I could get was 12mpg. Saturn had a swap policy at the time , so we got another one. Same thing, and these were brand New!
My wife's 09 Aura 2.4L still runs and drives well. It is Mom's taxi that gets mostly 1-2 mile trips around town. Oil changed every 5K. It doesn't use oil, shifts smooth and has 142K miles.
@@Noah_BoschhYea, my V6 in my Buick Regal was terrible. It was the ignition system. I had mechanics refuse to work on it. Said it was the worst motor ever made. Finally found on guy who fixed it. Lasted a couple months.
You would think that manufacturing automobiles for a Hundred years they would know by now what works best. However, personally I think they know how to make them break down after 4-5 years so that you have to buy a new one.
I have several cousins that work for GM. They have told me for years that Your Assessment is EXACTLY the idea. If a car lasts too long, Nobody buys a new car. Fine for VOLVO, but Not an American car. Sad, but usually true.
Nailed the nail right on it's head. The same for car parts. Timing chains were actually chains and now, they're made of rubber. If you break a timing belt in this day and age, it'll destroy/damage anything near the belts path. They found a way to penalize the customer, if they're too broke to afford replacing the timing belt that gets too old. That's why they're so adamant to get the timing belt changed. But the labor is what costs so much to get some timing belts changed. They have to dismantle a lot of things to get to the engine, to pull that belt off and replace. The time alone in just labor is what costs so much. :(
Had a vue and it was an excellent car. Well over 400,000 miles. I didn’t particularly like the ion but they had thier fans. They seemed pricey but Saturns were worth the money because they lasted. Owners kept them forever
I had one, bought a rental at 16K miles for $26K & at 199K miles sold it for $300. There was some wear & tear... but, it still went down the road, but, reliability was in question, & with a car my wife drives, that is not good.
We have a 2006 Saturn Vue with the Honda V6. What a beautiful machine. Except when the alternator went out. Because of the Honda brain. The alternator was built for these with a special part in them because the Honda brain is so sensitive. Thank got when I had the alternator rebuilt for $250 that part. I think the part name started with an r was still good. They don't make that particular part any more. But what an excellent good car. No issues yet at 175,00 miles yet.
I paid $450 for a car and got almost 7 years out of it (Auction buy) Brakes and tires is all I put on it I still have it ball joints and all kinds of other problems with it now, it's called a Ford Freestar, and I never was a Ford FANCIER If the body was good I would still keep it and fix it transmission and motor are perfect 200 eighty some thousand on it. Eagle
in the 3g range.. I would not buy one, I really like the old CRV's though and probably any old cool honda over a saturn. but also, i just like manual shift anyway. still , like always GREAT VIDEO Scotty.
Scotty, good little car but poor engineering . We have a 2009 Saturn. To change the right headlight bulb you have to pull the front clip off. Poor design.
Scott y, i live in Spain, and that car is basically an Opel Vectra, which are real nightmares (gasoline engines), but they come with a 1.7 diesel, 4 cyl, with acceptable quality
Not a Malibu. Actually, Saturn was only rebadging Opel cars and Americanizing them during the last 4 or 5 years. The Saturn Sky, Astra, and Aura were all Opel designs. The Aura, therefore, is the evolution of the Cadillac Catera, an earlier attempt of GM trying to take a popular German car in European car markets and bring it stateside. Basically, GM is the master of the FUSTERCLUCK.
Actually the Aura is most closely related to the contemporary Malibu. Just look at their Wikipedia pages; they were built in the same place and have the same designer. There are also very many common parts on the two vehicles, including the radios, steering wheels, and most importantly, they have identical engines! Styling wise, I don't know about its Opel ties though I wouldn't doubt it because this car looks lots like a Vectra. However, the Malibu and the Aura are virtually the same car, just rebadged and given unique styling.
Want to lock your key inside your car? 1990s Saturn computer says "Stand aside. I'll do it for you" (12 seconds after you close the door). If the key is in the main switch, Toyota Camry computer says "No" and unlocks the door again.
