🛑As of September 12, 2024 I don't think spending more than $300 on a Planar IEM is a wise investment. It's the same drivers being re packed. Enjoy the S08 or the S15 (or whatever you prefer) and wait until someone develops the next gen and improves the tech. It has stalled at a great place but it has stalled IMO. No more planar wars coming until someone pushes the ball further🛑
I'm sorry, I love your reviews. But all these youtube channels are saying there is no planar development, While Campfire is developing their own way better drivers and technology. I know Campfire is pricey, they're a small boutique brand but the planar stuff is literally amazing. I personally own a set of Campfire Planar and purchased a letshouer myself because I am interested to see if it's as good as they say. I know not everyone can afford to drop that type of money on an iem. But I'm surprised no one mentions Campfire when they seem to be focusing just as much as Letshouer on planar development, mind you a much more expensive bracket. Anyway Love your stuff. Keep it up.
I've got a lot of respect for Letshueor for pushing forward and refining their sound with planers while most other companies are still focusing on DD/Hybrids. I've got the S08 on my list to snag, and I've honestly been itching for a new planar so it may be the next buy
Shortly after seeing your video on S08 I ordered them, as an upgrade from entry level iems. Couldn't be more happy, they're exactly what I was looking for. And I'm really happy you still recommend them from all the bunch that's now available. Thank you for your videos! Stay safe my man.
Haven’t we kind of reached that point with Dynamic Drivers as well? They have gotten so good that it is all about the tuning now. The driver can do anything that’s asked of it if it’s tuned well. The Softears offerings for example. Single DD sets that are considered by many to be some of the best sounding earphones out period. I absolutely love the fact that you can get such incredible performance on such a reasonable budget. It’s only going to get better. Competition lowers prices. Enjoy it my friends. We live in an amazing time for Audio. ❤
I used to be a musician for quite a chunk of my life. But then moved away from it as I grew older. Got into the IEM hobby recently, and it reinvigorated my passion, as these finally make me feel music again. All started with your QKZxHBB, and I'm grateful
There is no point, imo, on having multiple sets using the same drivers but changing the sound profile just a little. I have in my collection a bassy, balanced, warm, and trebly sets, and all of them are different in terms of sound profile and tech. My point here is that if you already have an S12, for instance, and you like it, then why not try out a BA set? Or a planar plus DD?
I highly HIGHLY recommend the Final Type E for TWS eartips with the s08. It just cleans the mid-bass enough to retain the warmth but increase the sense of resolution without adding brightness. Would love for you to try them and let us know what you think.... They have become my favourite tips to use with many iems as they are also SO comfortable!
Thanks for the buying advice! I fiddled with the EQ and now my S12 sound pretty good. Will stick with those until some next-gen planar blows your socks off.
New to the hobby and I've tried plenty of budget single DDs but never Planar. The idea of having a bass boost without messing with the rest of the music sounds like a good deal though.
The OG Timeless got me into the hobby and planar wars for sure. Several sets later I'm left with an original run Z12 that I hardly use, the HBB Hook-X and the Timeless AE, along with the Elysian Pilgrim and IE 600. Even today i use both the Hook and AE regularly
Man. I remember way back when the OG timeless came out and brought me back in the hobby full force. I was off and on for years, since about 2011. Joined Head-Fi in 2014 and once the OG Timeless came out back in 2022(?) I was seeing all these posts hyping the set left and right… I had to get a taste. I’m glad I did. Now I’ve been knee deep in the hobby since then for better or for worse and I’ve made some amazing friends along the way. The timeless is such a special set to me.. I wish I still had my pair for the nostalgia.
I bought an MP143 a month ago. I quickly replaced the factory cable (I did not like that somehow) with a Moondrop Freedsp and, it sounds pretty good! I wouldn't say it's significantly better or sharply different in any way from my S12pro, but it seemed perfectly fine for the value for money (early kickstarter). Until there is another drastic improvement, I think I will look for an interesting hybrid iem.

Simgot was planning on a planar… Interesting. I own almost every planar under $250. My favorite for pure critical listening is the Timeless AE. But which one spends the most time in my ears? The Letshuoer S08. I don’t own the S15. I just don’t have the cash to try it out. But maybe it’ll be my Christmas present to myself.
I got my 1st planar iem a few months back, the (Artti T10) and the sound to me is just wonderful....I believe that planar drivers in iem's are the future, as the sound to my ears is unparalleled in terms of clarity, and the bass is so fast, but punchy...I have fallen in love with the planar sound for sure.
I think driver progression has plateau'd with the release of MP145, S08 and S12. They're so good that nothings really an improvement unless it's at least 2x the price. S08 is a personal favourite of mines as they managed to make a planar driver sound mellow which is a feat in and of itself. This gets me thinking what we got in store for next year seeing how good IEMs have gotten already

I remember when planars were all the hype, and suddenly it was over. The S08 at its price is attractive. Nice to hear about headroom, never though of it that mucch, but now you mention it, it is a nice additional subjective metric to qualify an IEM and should be used more often. If you cannot tolerate the sound when it gets a bit louder sound, that a bad sign. The other way around is also true I guess.

Assuming fit is acceptable, I think the MP145 is the best planar out there. Are there really a lot of people who think it has too much treble? It seems so well balanced to me with the most spacious sound.
The point about headroom resonances a lot with me. I used to like a more energetic treble but have found myself leaning more towards a meta like tuning so I am able to crank it up if I feel like it.
Hi HBB is there a reason your iem ranking spreadsheet is down? I thought it was my computer at first, but when I switched to my phone I confirmed it was indeed empty.
I very much appreciate your opinion about the planar tech stalling. It sure seems to me like nothing new is happening with the planar driver technology. You are saving people from spending unnecessary money. Thank you!
Great video and thanks for being upfront about the current market of planars. I don’t think hitting a plateau is bad. I think it’s better for companies to work on improving things and waiting to release before just releasing something that is the same as everything else.
Am really on the fence between the S08 and the S12 (2024 - hate the colour though) Wondering if a strong source may let the S08 shine enough to not justify the expense. Thanks for the input.
s12 2024 is the best, period and yes i dislike the color as well. I wish the s12 2024 looked more like the s08. Also have the mp 145, similar with s12 2024 but i still prefer the s12 2024. couple things i hate about mp 145 is the size/weight and the crinkle effect is super bad for planar iems. For example the s12 2024 have almost zero crinkle sound when inserting/adjusting in ear. The mp 145 despite its size/weight is however more comfortable than the s12 2024 for me.
I still have the Timeless from that time, and I still enjoy it to this day. My only problem with it is the mmcx taht sometimes fail. Who knows, might give letshouer a try in the future.
It’s crazy how the nicehck f1 pro gets overlooked by almost everybody. S12 like tuning with great build quality and great cables ,smooth treble and cheaper too
The S08 is the first planar iem that I actually enjoy. I'll probably consider buying another planar only if the S08 dies (Or I might just get a spare set, it's only $100 anyway)
I would love to see more creative driver configs utilizing the planar. Maybe a way to get more rumble in the sub while maintaining that midbass planar speed.
Planar reviews and your planar wars is the whole reason I stubbled upon you. I am right there with you that the S08 is the best for the money to my ears. I still love the weight and feel of the S12’s but the sound of the 8’s is just better for me.
Congrats to our buddies at Letshueor for winning the Planar Wars after twelve episodes. That's not quite as good as the Jedi who only needed nine mainline entries to secure the Galaxy, but, it's better than the United Federation of Planets who so far has needed a dozen or so mainline movies + a gazillion TV shows and they still haven't fully won the Planet Wars. It'd be ironic if this comment, one of the select few that I'm not at all proud of after typing it out and realizing that the punchline really is not especially funny, is what wins me the Sim-GOAT planar prototype. I hope you'll consider doing a review of that unit before mailing it out because I'm very curious as to what they were trying to achieve and how well they achieved it. I thought this was yet another informative video. Chris HBB is the king of "edu-tainment" programming in the chi-fi space. If you see this Chris, thanks for putting in the effort. However, it's not just effort. I put effort into this comment, but, it still sucks. Effort is only valuable if one has the talent to harness it and guide it. Obviously, you have that talent.
I did the whole Timeless and S12 when they hit, and modded the S12. I was late to the P1 Max ( the OG, not the 2 ) which was very good. I wasn't ready to drop S15 money, but the S08 is amazing and a great value.
I have the 7htz Timeless. Still think it is a good one. I always supposed there were a little number of planar drivers, but couldn't say. The only hint I had was the velocity and number of planar iems in the marquet.

It’s crazy how the nicehck f1 pro gets overlooked by almost everybody. S12 like tuning with great build quality and great cables ,smooth treble and cheaper too
Great video! I have a q about your top 20 : why are Monarch MKIII out ? Thanks
Great review thanks for your advice 👍
The S08 is the first planar iem that I actually enjoy. I'll probably consider buying another planar only if the S08 dies (Or I might just get a spare set, it's only $100 anyway)
I would love to see more creative driver configs utilizing the planar. Maybe a way to get more rumble in the sub while maintaining that midbass planar speed.
Love the videos! Will get a Planar one day
Im ok with my 3 Planars already (S12Pro, Zetian and PR2 HBB) but the S15 and this S12 aniversary bling bling would be welcome to my collection!!
Thanks for the video mate
I think S08 is one of the best vfm options that has released recently
Thanks for this!
My fav planar still is the Tangzu Zetian Wu, it just has that gorgeous sub bass rumble! :D
Interesting that the driver tech has matured to an end point, at least until a new tech replaces it.
Great vid! Hoping to get my hands on planars soon
So as the "planar war" is over, can we expect the 'S08' driver tech in a under 50 dollar price bracket in the months to come ? 😆
Still running on an older Kinera Pandamon I'm ok with them for now, but may just have to try the S08, price isn't too bad.
pretty sure planars are the best for EQ'ing, will bass always be a short coming for planars?
Awesome video as always
Planar reviews and your planar wars is the whole reason I stubbled upon you. I am right there with you that the S08 is the best for the money to my ears. I still love the weight and feel of the S12’s but the sound of the 8’s is just better for me.
Well said. Letshoer has a lot of iems built like tanks I always liked that
Alright. S08 has been added to my 11/11 list. I've always enjoyed Shortbus retunes.
I probably sound like a broken record, but I still love my (OG) HBB x PR2 planar IEMs. I just don't think IEMs like the S15 will sound $300 better.
I have been waiting to jump into planars! I hope this is the best time.
Great planar sets from Letshuoer. I still have the Heyday and the Timeless as my preference for planars.
I just have the OG S12, havent purchased any other planars. Doesnt look like i have missed much.
Letshuoer is the planar king, no doubt !
By the way, cant wait the full review of the Deuce, my arms are itching bro.
Keep up the good work 👊
I have the 7htz Timeless. Still think it is a good one. I always supposed there were a little number of planar drivers, but couldn't say. The only hint I had was the velocity and number of planar iems in the marquet.
My mannn ❤❤❤❤❤ thank you
Enjoying my misic with S12 pro with Xduoo L2B😎. This dac also plays well with olina aswell👌
Maybe the more important question… how did that Simgot planar sound man?
