I’ve had mine for a whole twi days and love it. My first rotary so I didn’t want to break the bank. It sounds really clean. The layout is nice and basic and the knobs feel solid and smooth. The filter is a non issue as I have figure out how to find the sweet spot if i want to use it. I have been mixing on it non stop and I am happy with it. I actually got the R4 which has the same function just two more channels. doubled. The price was $599

Thanks Mojaxx for another honest rotary review (best yt ch for reviews of these types of mixers). They seem to be coming more mainstream now, far more companies are producing them now than 10 yrs ago.

I got into rotary accidentally, for a while i could not have any music out loud. So I used to practice on my headhpones (for fun) using the gains. Not ideal but it somewhat gave me a semblance of being able to mix. When I finally was able to have sound out loud. The faders just didn't feel the same, I missed the knobs. So I Googled "are there mixers that are knobs only" or something like that, and stumbled into rotary mixers. I was blown away that there was such a thing. Then I saw the prices and was like ok not ready to drop 3k, not that I would not but was not sure at the time if it was just a fad for me. So I found the Omnitronic, and damn I just love it. Feel right at home with it. It does the job, will upgrade in the future but for now I don't see a need. Looking to pick this up once it is out of pre-order.

My first Rotary mixer that I've played is my own Omnitric trm 202 MK2. Same evening that I've picked it up played also with the trm 402. Tbh, the 202mk2 sounds a lot, and I mean a lot better than the 402. Would only change my trm 202mk2 for a mastersounds radius 4v because I own 3 Technics 1200 MK2's. But I fell in love with rotary mixers. Yes I have modded my trm from the aluminum knobs to the vintage knobs and an omniwood kit for that real high end look. Nice review Mojaxx ! Hope you are doing the ecler warm 4 soon!

The first rotary mixer I've used is the first one I bought; the Omnitric TRM 402. Absolutely fun entry level mixer. Then afterwards, I bought the Ecler Warm 2 which I currently use for my current DJ setup. Sound wise, the Warm 2 is far superior than the 402. I've had my eyes on the Warm 4 but seriously thinking about taking my time and saving up to get exactly the high end boutique mixer that I want (no hurry) which most likely be my first and last. I can honestly say that I'm hooked on rotaries and haven't used any of my linear mixers going on three years now.
Budget rotaries are a good starting point to see if they fit your style mixing. With me as I get more familiar with these mixers, so does my ears...I want the most cleanest analog sound I can possibly get. As they say, "you get what you pay for" and I'm going for outstanding craftsmanship and sound quality. 14:59

My first rotary mixer experience was at a gig i landed out in Hollywood and i knew this night they had some weird, old looking mixer all the DJ’s were fawning over back in 2006. It was the Rane MP2016 gen 1 with no split cue. I was deathly afraid of this. But once i was given a proper demo of it. I never turned back. Knobs over faders!

@@miamiwax5504the precision you can get from the rotary knobs vs line faders are much different, its meant for extremely delicate mixing and very niche styles. Plus alot of rotary mixers are all analog and run tube amps which have a different sound but thats a whole other discussion.

Love the fact there’s more options for rotaries… my first experience was using the rotary mode on my old DB4 but muscle memory meant I kept messing up mixes because I was so used to faders, so switching the effects onto the faders made it hard to unlearn… I decided to buy the 4 channel subzero, which was excellent… side by side with digital inputs it sounded as good as the db4 but the vinyl preamps were weak so I upgraded to a MasterSounds… now the db4 has gone I’ll be upgrading my nxs2 to rotary, then sell the MasterSounds and the long term goal is the MasterSounds v4 mk2…. I’m definitely hooked and using rotary suits my mixing style.

    • @aljxdro
      @aljxdro 7 месяцев назад +2

@@trevchumby Currently I have it at home for vinyl mixing and listening. My Xone is still currently my go-to for performances and events. But I will be using the R2 this Friday for a vinyl set. That said, I think I will have to agree it's definitely a good deal. But the filter will eventually annoy you, the sound is a bit lack luster, and the more and more I use it I realize it may have been a bit of a cash grab for the opportunity to own a rotary. I saw it on another reviewers video but even some of my lo mid and hi knobs aren't even centered correctly... the notch is not where it's supposed to be and funnily enough when I move it to where it should be, it changes the sound every so slightly. But noticeable.
My recommendation, skip the R2, get a Xone if you don't have one already. If you have a Xone and don't want to spend a thousand + on a arguably better rotary and craftsmanship but want the novelty of owning a rotary the R2 will serve you fine.

@@aljxdro thanks for getting back. I’m just dusting off my Technics mk2’s after nearly 2 decades of hibernation - couldn’t find any of my old mixers…Last mixer I remember having was the Technics 1200.
In the last 10 - 15 yrs, I’ve been down the music production rabbit hole…
Adverts for the Resør have been popping up on instagram. The look and build quality of high end Rotary mixers is all very appealing, but not sure I want to throw down £1800+ just yet!!!
It will only be an occasional home use thing - my wife is allowing me to build a booth/bar area in our living room.
As long as the sound quality is passable. I’m not too bothered about the effects - I’ll probably use one of the many effects units I own.
I’ve seen the R2 for around £299 which is extremely budget friendly. But is it a case of “buy nice or buy twice” or the similar phrase “buy once, cry once” 😅
      I will continue to ponder….

I think it is very well designed DJ mixer, despite the switching noise issue that Mojaxx mentioned. External AC adapter is a bit annoying, but it does minimize noise issue from AC source. I do wish that it was 3 channel DJ mixer without the built-in filter, which I suspect that it is DSP.

you don't understand how the resonance knob works. All the way up to the right it puts a bump at the slope and this should have a difference in level. Test it with the resonance knob turned all the way down and the it is likely the eq slope should be quite flat. rarely do filters have a non-neutral slope when the resonance is all the way down.
