We used RFID tags on sheep and cattle here in Canada (mandatory). We found that it is a good idea to scan each tag before you turn them out as, unfortunately, a percentage won't read. It's much easier to change a bad tag out while you have the animal restrained.
Mike, A heifer bull is so designated because his calves, supposedly; will be born at birth weights workable and safe with heifers. Not because he is their age and,or has never been bred to other cows.
well for us, we use first year bulls with our heifers and then roll them into the herd the next year. His birth weight doesn't change after he gets older so it works for us in many ways. works great!
They use them in Canada already on farms! Especially on sheep! Really cool! Makes it way easier to track all the babies! Especially when they have anywhere from 2 to 5 babies at a time!
Number 1…. That Arrowquip system is the Boss system…. I like the new tagging system….I don’t know why folks don’t like it..it’s a great record system…. Great job Mike..
I like when you do footage of the bulls , seems like they don’t get as much camera time as everyone else , as they play a pretty big role in ranching 😂
I watch a woman in Canada who uses a similar setup for keeping track of her sheep. Seems to be a great tool for her. I hope that it works just as well for you.
It's such a relief to have the technology today that helps establish a consistent system for monitoring our herds and herd records. Do you have or keep records that you can analyze for your bulls???
I've been keeping track of Gillette's weather and it does my heart good seeing the rain your getting on the ranch. I think I began watching Our Wyoming Life the last time you were able to do your own hay. Quite a while now. Looking forward to haying season again. Heifers looked very surprised at their nice green pasture. 💘 🐂 🐄 🐐 🐖 🐔 🐇 🐕 🐱 🇺🇸
You are really embracing the technology. I have been a fan of Sheepishly me (Sandy Brock) and she uses the RFID chips, wand , scale and ipad from gallagher to manage her flock. She is able to use the gallagher system the same way you use "cattle max" from the first day of a lambs life, it's gains and losses are tracked directly to her "app." Even able to track which animals are parents to which babies, the stats for each animal really help her manage her "herd health" and happiness. I can't wait to see how this new addition to your toolbox helps your herd and your ranch grow. The Journey you are on now using You tube will be awesome for other ranchers who are on the fence about RFID tech and their herd. Good on you for saying - "let's try this."
We're in Washington state. And very fortunate to live in what is one of the great agriculture areas of the state. This might seem weird to some. I'm a vegetarian. But I live with carnivores. And see nothing wrong😉 with my mixed relationships. There are great farmers like you. Who take great care of their animals. I have built relationships with local farmers to provide food for my family and friends. We have a great. Local butcher shop where I can get locally raised meats that some farmers can't produce on a smaller scale. People now days need to know their farmers and shops. Buying local really does make a difference. The beef farmer my friend and I purchase meat from is still able to keep the prices decent. So please keep educating folks on the WHOLE process. -Jenn
Good morning. My family used to own your ranch. We lived there for many many years. It made my day seeing those Herford signs up in what used to be out sale barn. If you ever get bored just down the road from you on 4J is what used to be the Bethlehem Church. My great grandparents donated the land for that church. May God continue to bless you and yours.
Hi to Our Wyoming Life and all others too. Great to hear and see another great video. Glad you all getting rain out there. Rain will come in handy for you all with the crops and animals too. Thanks for sharing the video
Definitely working smarter. You're making things easier for yourself and your family as you age. Pays to sacrifice now rather than pay later. Jeff is such a Blessing helping on his day off. Please give us an update video on the 3 bottle calves. Thank you for explaining your goals!
It's amazing from what the ranch use to be to today, Progress. Our Wyoming Life yous have come a long ways. Alot of progress today and future. Love watching Our Wyoming Life. As always great intro, great video, great music and educational. Thank you Our Wyoming Life for taking us along on your journey !!!!
Man oh man…it looks gorgeous out there in the “one-legged” windmill pasture!! And the heifers look AWESOME…!!! Thanks for sharing all that with us today Mike🤗😀🤗
When you let the girls out in the new pasture they all were saying this is heaven, look at all this green grass and our own pond. (Life Is Good on the Ranch) Mooooo 🇺🇸😎
Great things happening every day on the ranch. I always say we need to work smarter, not harder. The new tags and readers will make your job much more efficient. Great to see Jeff out working, as always. Outstanding worker who comes out to work on his day off. Outstanding work ethic and dedication.
Yeah, cattle are a multi year investment. Hope the tags help out with keeping track of each critter. Information is key to good ranching/farming. Good video too Mike 👍
Hi, Mike older subscriber (70) from UK. love your life and your ethics good luck with REGARDS WITH the R.V. . SO GLAD YOU COULD help your near neighbours with your new Bull I hope all is well with her.
Mike, since your old bull was Doof Vader I think you should name your new bull Obi One (first bull in a new line). You can also call your new RFID reader your new light saber!
I want to thank you for staying committed to your cause with your ranch. You have been extremely resourceful in finding ways to diversify. We became Patreon members to buy your meat and it brought me back to a flavor I haven't experienced since childhood when having dinners at my best friend's ranch (which she now runs, and yes we are life long friends for 65 years). The flavor of beef finished the right way is unmistakable and I feel privileged to have tasted this remarkable meat once again.
The girls with their new ear rings waiting on their Beu to get there and they can show off for him! All of them have their fancy new RFID ear ring so I guess he will just have to pick them by their looks and hips……Happy Days on the Ranch! Thanks for your hard ass work to keep us in good food!
It should be easier for you to identify ur herd now, and their new earrings are uniform and cool looking! Good job 👍👌 Ru doing the same for every one of ur herd members, would be cool! U made it look easy and efficient! 😉
I sure like the Arrow-quip set up. Makes it so easy for one person to get things done. The new chip will be a big help for you. O, Jeff cleans up quit well. But most of all, makes for a great helper for you guys. Thanks for sharing Mike. Glad your getting rain. We got about an inch and a half last night here in central Iowa.
Great video, Mike! I love seeing the Arrowquip system at work. I looks like it is great to work with! Seemed like the heifers moved pretty well for you. This might be a dumb question, but....are Doof Vader and LOL breeding the cows, and only LOL is breeding the heifers? Looking forward to seeing LOL aka 101 tomorrow!
It's good to see all that green grass growing tall. Hopefully you'll be able to harvest your own hay and not have to buy from the outside for the winter.
Howdy Mike, I never thought I would here you say " I'm taking a break from the Weather" 👏. Your so patient with what you've been through,I'm so Glad the Weather has changed 🙌. I'm so glad you and Erin's life is changing for the better 🎉. JO JO IN VT 😆💕
Michael, your Ranch is slowly being updated to a state of the art operation. All the $$$, time, manual labor, investment will be worth it sooner than you think. I think about Gilbert all the time and how proud and relieved he is to watch all His hard work paid off too.
What would be cool is if when you scanned the cows later, it would tell you how much per pound you would be getting. :) Keep up the good work, love to you and the family.
Has been a pretty good dose of rain! My gauge says 0.99 inches of rain so far! I'll take it and thank God for it! Hope y'all got a bit of that rain that came around 2pm. Def not complaining at all!
Mike , that grass looks great! Hope you've been getting some precip. With those thunder storms! Might make some hay this year, still in my prayers for hay, and profit margins that grows for y'all and health and blessings for your family , not forgetting you also!
I Do not know how in the world you do all this by yourself or with Jeff. You have everything so well organized and planned out! Take care of yourself, Mike!
the the rancher. He understands the supply problems, he suddenly had been trying to tell him....that prices were increasing for food was happening overnight just like his gas for his truck! I had to laugh because it was like he had "just"really heard my words!.
Your new system should make it easier to record your momma cows when they have their babies. You should be able to tag the babies with the system as well once they are born.
Jeff isn’t finicky. Jeff has discerning tastes and the knowledge of what he specifically wants. That’s a man who is less likely to make a large mistake which could have been avoided with a little planning.

I found this new system to be ultra fascinating! Boy, don’t you just love today’s technology ? It was a one man job…..now, we wait for the delivery of your new bull. The girls all look pretty nifty with their new ear tags….just like us gals, with our matching earrings. One big difference, ……………………..and, that’s no bull. Bev in Maine
Good luck with your new tagging system. We have a new young bull since the middle of last year for our herd. Happy so far with his performance, but we'll just have to keep a check on him. Good luck with LOL, hope everything goes well. Thanks for the video, have a great week.
Excellent example of a relentless work ethic.
Thank you kindly!

Great to hear you’re getting more rain. Looking forward to seeing the hay harvest.
Seeing all that green grass in your pastures is definitely a welcoming sight!
I think so too!
I watch a woman in Canada who uses a similar setup for keeping track of her sheep. Seems to be a great tool for her. I hope that it works just as well for you.
I'm with Jeff when it comes to his "conspiracy" theory. It's really easy for Big gubmint to track every move those heifers make.
Yeah, when # 39 pulls that bank heist...they'll be on her like flies on a cow paddy......
I have to report that the subject cow just erke poo poo!!!! Yeah. Really important information.
It's such a relief to have the technology today that helps establish a consistent system for monitoring our herds and herd records. Do you have or keep records that you can analyze for your bulls???

Those are some good looking heifers
Looks like all the rain is paying off, thank God. The ladies are usually slow and easy going...unless, well you know the rest. Lol Great video Mike.

You can tell you have worked with the heifers so calm!!!!
Thank you for all you and your family do 🇺🇸❤️
Should be an interesting next several months to know how the heifers are progressing in their growth.
Hi to Our Wyoming Life and all others too. Great to hear and see another great video. Glad you all getting rain out there. Rain will come in handy for you all with the crops and animals too. Thanks for sharing the video
The ranch looks gorgeous, all that grass and water in the stock ponds!
Maybe adding a mug shot of the critter as you tag them would be helpful down the road, when the herd gets big.
LOVE SEEING THAT GREEN GRASS. AWESOME.
Can’t wait to see the new Beau. And the grass looks amazing.
Like, comment, share and watch the ads😊

Hi. The arrowquip is going to be a big help. It's nice to see green in the fields. Be well.
I think so too!
Hallelujah for all the green grass!🌱🌱🌱❤️🙏🏻✝️🇺🇸❤️
You are so gentle with your cattle. Nice to see🙂

Oh, RFD tags are heavily used in Dairy farming. Robotics and how you are using it are just two examples.
I love how he is modernizing the ranch! Such a great channel!
The ranch is looking nice and GREEEN

Keeping up with the rain prayer! Nice crop of heifers, this year. They should do great with all that green grass you have this year.
I come here to escape my own terrible reality. I really appreciate what you do.
It's good to see all that green grass growing tall. Hopefully you'll be able to harvest your own hay and not have to buy from the outside for the winter.
Rains doing great for the green. Down here in the south it's hot, dry, and drought. 😀😁👍🙏

Mike, I love your slow moving meat. The girls look good! Hope LOL works out! Hope your weather stays good for the summer! From Northern Michigan

This was an awesome video. Thanks Mike for sharing. You have a great system going. God bless ❤.
I sure enjoy your channel. I got to to Jackson hole on 2007 June we like how you take care of you animals from lower Alabama
Hi our wyoming life thanks for sharing the video of the heifers they look pretty nice in my opinion
I like to see that green grass. good to hear you've been getting more rain.
Glad to see all the nice grass,,, you peoples had it hard last year.
We have over 100 degrees this whole week. Got some rain last week. Down here in Texas ugh it’s SUMMER TIME NOW HERE
What no bucket of cake to give the ladies a treat for there efforts.
No fast food on the ranch!?! Just try and load my steer. You’ll see fast food 😂
Half cheetah half mountain goat
Hello Jeff you guys do a super job they all look good Mike how's the emu's doing
Your new system should make it easier to record your momma cows when they have their babies. You should be able to tag the babies with the system as well once they are born.
Interesting little scanner for the tags, in sheep they have the same thing but it’s called a Gallagher!
It’s like putting ear rings on a cow 🤣 👍🏾
I balk at putting those on my trailer and letting my "smart truck" driving...well, if it saves the ranch, I am all in!
Mike, it so nice to see all the green grass! I am glad that you are getting rain! Can’t wait to see what is next!
Man the field is looking good . Keep the rain 🌧️ coming .

Pastures look great!
Heifers are looking good.
Great to see all that green and water!
Good luck with your new tagging system. We have a new young bull since the middle of last year for our herd. Happy so far with his performance, but we'll just have to keep a check on him. Good luck with LOL, hope everything goes well. Thanks for the video, have a great week.
