Just goes to show how much luck is important to be successful. Diane Birch is extremely talented. This track is golden. And yet she barely caused a ripple. Meanwhile we suffer average, PR savvy, trend-surfing rot.
I’m not sure it’s luck. The music industry today caters to what they think is the “lowest common denominator” - stupid soft porn with everything produced on the “grid” of a computer. Tone deaf? No problem. Rhythmically challenged? We can fix that too, and we can add so many faux instruments to the mix that you’ll hear the same crap every time. Then along comes a young woman with a beautiful voice, a rich sense of melody and harmonies, and delightful skill on the Fender Rhodes piano. Her lyrics are poetry. Her melodies are worthy of Carol King or Joni Mitchell. No “wall of sound” needed, these songs speak for themselves. The industry execs assume everyday people need music dumbed down but they are wrong.
I'd say her music on this album is a bit too retro for young folks'tastes. OK, you had Regina Spektor, and Norah Jones and of course Amy Winehouse and a host more, women singer songwriters were quite the thing late noughties. But these ladies had more sync with the times sounds, while Diana is kinda time less, tho it does remind of early 70s. No doubt shes every inch as great, but the grinding mills of success can be cruel.. But Diana absolutely was way more than a ripple, done quite a number of high profile shows in those days !
I recently discovered Diane Birch by watching her perform with Darryl Hall on his Live from Darryl's House show. Boy, I was blown away by her voice. BEAUTIFUL is an understatement. Why isnt she a star in the music industry?
I stumbled onto this beautiful singer songwriter at Daryl’s House also. However, she’s different from many of the young artists LADH. I go search for their original records and think “meh. Daryl brings out the best in everyone.” Not with Diane Birch! This is a different arrangement but just great. ‘“Fire Escape” with Daryl and his band is fabulous, and her version is just as good if not better. No wonder T-Bone said he’d listened to her songs a lot.
Reminds me of young Carly Simon in her very early days. Mix of Nora Jones also but with better vibe and pipes. Like the eclectic style. She has all the talent. Melodically out of this world, talented keyboard player and incredible voice. Most of all she carries herself as if the music will always come first. She's no bubble-gum b.s. billboard that the music industry forces down everyone's throat. She's pure music, silky and beautiful. One of a kind and glad to have accidentally discovered her also on Daryl Hall's show.
If you like her, and her pure talent style that is always pitch perfect, make sure you start watching Brandi Carlisle music videos. I like (love) Brandi's Hallelujah and heard her first major breakthrough song, The Story (look for the Austin City Limits one). Brandi is incredible in all ways. More eclectic music? older school? totally different? Then how about Nanci Griffith - see Love at the Five and Dime or Gulf Coast Highway. More? Amy MacDonald - youtube her version of Born to Run Xenia Martinez - from the Voice / her own music is best (Snapshot, etc.) - she's not done because she is so young, although she has dropped off for now
I'm thinking Carol King for songwriting approach but there are flashes of Laura Nyro in performance as well. The arrangements, the gentle subdued horns. It sounds like the "soul" music that Laura was trying desperately to recreate. "Stone Soul Picnic," "Wedding Bell Blues." Diane Birch does a very soulful job. Look forward to hearing more.
I found her through a FB ad! For months I had an ad that said if I liked Shelby Lynne (who I adore), I'd like Diane Birch. Boy, do I! So excited to find a new singer!
i cant lie i downloaded her album 3 years ago and purchased it just yesterday... i had to support such an excellent and flawless talent. she is on par with any singer and the song writing is outstanding. I hope she can continue her success so i can play her albums like i do John Mayer's!
maybe she needs a new agent because she be on the top ten list ,,no way its get better than her as far as talent goes and entertaining .. she should be on top of charts ,, she is amazing
🎤I KNOW YOUR GAME,u look in the EYE's..my love is a fire no 1 can tame, honey I'd rather STAND out in the RAIN....fools.p.s.great Artist and songwriter BRAVO
On one of her videos, they described her as 'fierce'. I had to think about that and I now see what they were referring to. She is talented, both visually and aurally compelling and is not only gifted on keyboard but laughs at herself. If you haven't seen the respect shown by Darryl Hall to her - you need to explore any of the interviews or tunes she's done with him and his crew. I wish they'd release some of those cuts - she just knocks me over - daily.
Fools Knockin on my door Calling out my name Tellin me to change my ways but I know Two hands in the fire Wont put out the flame Yeah I got your number I know your game Chrs So why should I lay it on the line Everybodys got a vision Everybodys got a plan You tell me lies You look me in the eyes But honey I would rather stand out in the rain Vs. Fools Lying in my bed Laughin in my head Telling me my dreams gone cold but I know One city of angels It aint goin put out my flame Ooh my love is a fire No one can tame Chrs So why should I lay it on the line Everybodys got a vision Everybodys got a plan You tell me lies You look me in the eyes But honey I would rather stand out in the rain
this is crazy. 9 year old video and i've never heard of her or this song. The song might even be older and i first heard about it this month watching random Daryl's house shows.
I've listened to Diane Birch before and liked her but didn't realise till today that this song is by her. I feel a bit stupid now... Still, I love her music and her singing. ;)
Hi Diane ... Saw your video with Daryl Hall & Friends. Great Performance ... U have a (y) Powerful Voice ! *Luv that song U sang 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World. Wishing U ALL THE BEST ... GREAT BLESSINGS EVER MORE ... TQ for Sharing This (TQ)
Coincido con que recuerda a Stevie Nicks y a Carole King, pero tambien a Joni Mitchell y Edie Brickell. En otras canciones tiene algo de Chrissie Hynde, pero su estilo es muy personal
Everything about this song is excellent but I couldn't find a programme or site for downloading the original and the karaoke version of it . Can anyone suggest me something ? (:
Why can't I find this album on iTunes or Spotify anymore?? I can see her newer albums but this one isn't there anymore. Would love to get it on my playlist.
Look, this wonderful talent didn't make it. It's 2019, ten years after national exposure. and she didn't hit it nationally. So sad. American truly has lost its sense of taste.
Diane is very talented and listening to her performance is truly a delightful experience. Please pay a bit more attention to the production of this video that showcases her music. The rapid succession of still images tends to create an uneasy feeling in the viewer. Perhaps a slower progression would be more appropriate.Thank you.

Radio stations need to be playing her music.
She is awesome…. And beautiful
I recently discovered Diane Birch by watching her perform with Darryl Hall on his Live from Darryl's House show. Boy, I was blown away by her voice. BEAUTIFUL is an understatement. Why isnt she a star in the music industry?
I am a bit late discovering Diane Birch, but I love her bluesy-rock style. Very refreshing.
Diane Diane come out wherever you are! We’re all wanting and waiting to see you!
I found her on a session Daryl's house. Man, is so talented and so very pretty. I'm a new fan now.

Me too!!
Same!
Ditto
nice to hear that there is still some real talent out there....great arrangement...loved this song
one of the best singer songwriters in the world I love her if you close your eyes you would swear it was Carole King
I'm a huge Carole King fan, but Diane Birch's voice is better. Now in terms of songwriting...Carole King wins hands down.
この曲好きです。
So talented…I love every one of her song😢
This girl is a truly amazing talent - great style and a voice that seduces the senses...
quiet right quiet right you hit the nail

Kue Man I just discovered her today on a Daryl house episode. Looks like I've got some catching up to do.

Amy MacDonald - youtube her version of Born to Run
Xenia Martinez - from the Voice / her own music is best (Snapshot, etc.) - she's not done because she is so young, although she has dropped off for now
Kue Man Ordered Bible belt today and talked the guy at the store into odering one for himself.

Mily Cyrus needs to take a look at this.
Amen! All you current "musicians" need to look at real musicians like this. And that goes for that Bieber character.

Is this the same Diane Birch (ex kokomo) that died a couple of years ago?
she sounds like linda ronstadt
