      But like how? Just ignore her and watch her die? When things first happen drs always give families hope so they do what they can to keep her alive thinking she’ll pull through. Or that god will fix her. Then it never happens. So then what do you do? I can’t imagine having to take care of her for the next 40 years till the parents die. They are trapped as well. But if they go the nursing home route they have to be there all day, too. It’s a no-win either way.

    There’s an extremely rare but documented case of a young guy who was in a vegetative state but recovered fully. He actually said that it was a living hell being fully aware and conscious of who he was and what was going on around him but unable to move, react or respond. He said it was very boring and that it’s no way to live. He recovered his ability to respond in less than a year and again this is extremely rare but it demonstrates perfectly what other commenters have said. It’s selfish and cruel to keep someone trapped inside their bodies for years or decades.

    • @LechLecha893
      @LechLecha893 4 года назад +22

      No one fully recovers. That was a scam. The brain is extremely damaged to the point it no longer can keep the body alive.

      That sounds like locked in syndrome which is different to being in a vegetative state.

    • @trickortrump3292
      @trickortrump3292 2 года назад +1

      @@LechLecha893 OP is confusing locked in syndrome with pvs and you’re confusing pvs with brain death. People in pvs are the opposite of what you’re saying. The brain stem remains intact which is what keeps the body going, but awareness is gone. In brain death, the brain stem is gone so patients will only breathe on machines. People in pvs can potentially live for decades on a feeding tube but no other machines and when they do die prematurely, it’s most often a side effect of being so sedimentary.

    • @annisaadrns
      @annisaadrns 2 года назад

      PVS patients are awake but have no or very little awareness of their surroundings. PVS is not a mere paralysis. Their brains can't interpret signals from their sensory organs

    • @JaimeMesChiens
      @JaimeMesChiens Год назад +1

      What case is this of which you speak?
      Persons who are lock in are fully conscious and cognitively intact.
      It is rare to recover, but there are so many variables that, under the most-minor (relatively) cases may demonstrate some recovery.
      These patients usually have not experienced massive brain cell death.
      Persons in PVS are not conscious or alert.
      They’re often drowning victims who have experienced global anoxic brain death.
      They do open and close their eyes, but are blind.
      They’re not conscious and have no cognitive abilities.
      They can be kept “alive” in life support, indefinitely.
      Since this child is clearly non-sentient, why would her “living” in a skilled nursing facility be a negative thing?

    People are writing here that they should just let her go. But I see she is not on a respirator. When someone stops breathing and their heart then begins to stop, we perform CPR. Then the part of the brain that regulates breathing and our heart will start again in most cases. But you do not know till later just how much brain damage has gone on with the rest of the brain. The involuntary functions like breathing, digesting food, heart and lungs all run under that part of the brain. The other voluntary functions like moving your hands, arms, legs are all regulated moves. So she can still be alive because the involuntary part of the brain recovered, but the voluntary part of the brain did not. So the people end up breathing, digesting food (from a feeding tube in this case) etc, but other than that, they are zoned out. No treatment will recover the dead part of the brain. So all they can give is supportive care to keep her comfortable. The optional part is the toughest ~ that being where you want them to live out the rest of their life. Home is best if all supports can be done at home, and in her case that can be done. After one year roughly what a person gets to level wise is as far as they will go ~ goes for other brain injuries ~ strokes, brain injures and so on. Some people can learn to make other parts of the brain do the job the injured part can not. But that is Dutch auction as they say ~ no standard treatment for recovery, so no understanding how far each individual person can achieve. I personally as a parent would learn how to do as much as possible to take control of her care and keep it at home. Watch here on youtube.com the "Brooke Eller Story" directed by the late Christopher Reeve. The parents took their daughter out of an institution after a brain injury due to being hit by a car (as a child). They took control and moved as far forward as they could. Really inspiring story that teaches us that we must push all the boundaries to achieve the best we can, even if the recovery is not going to come up to our expectations. This lovely little angel has one thing on her side, her age. Children can make more progress better than adults. But never just quit and do not set your goals higher till you see the improvements happening. At least she is making good eye contact. All the best and hope she is still well after all these years.

      The feeding tube and other medications and artifical things help keep her alive. She DOES have a trach, as well. Without the feeding tube and trach - she dies! She would suffocate or starve to death. So she is still being kept alive artificially.

    The issue which folks seem to be missing is that an insurance company CANNOT decide what is best for a patient they do not know and have not treated. Deciding whether someone's quality of life is above or below your personal mark is a slippery slope which medical ethicists have studied since antibiotics were invented, and has contributed to such abominations as eugenics and the Holocaust. It is in the insurance company's financial interest to deny as much treatment as possible, and if you've ever dealt with a chronic condition, you know what I'm talking about. We pay for insurance to provide a service, which they are determined not to provide if it costs them too much.

    That’s so fucking sad… if it was my child I would’ve ended this “life” for her… i could never let her “live” like this for years…

    My heart is hurting so bad to see her denied anything she needs. An exception should be made to all that's in need for the roll to recovery. Prayers up for her and the family🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

      She will never recover. She's brain dead. She sees nothing. She hears nothing. She thinks nothing. She only feels pain. No pleasure. No comfort. No relief.
      And you want to force her to stay stuck like that because her parents can't accept that she's irrevocably dead? Nice.

      There is no recovery. This little girl will never improve, she will never play with dolls, run, go to school, go on a date, learn to drive............ I was a nurse for over 20 years and people on PVS do not improve. It is a horrible and hellish existence. How much money do we spend to prolong this child's suffering when there are other ill children who can improve and have a life?
