Well done great video. I enjoy the fact that you changed the training a little maybe a hi five instead of a wave ha ha Thankyou for not taking bird training so seriously it gives me a more realistic view that it’s a marathon not a sprint because I really do enjoy the training and love that my birds and I engage in each and everyday.
Awesome video I really enjoyed the content super knowledgeable. Just got my first sun conure Phoenix she’s 5 months old. I can’t wait to start training her. I definitely need a clicker if you have any extra I can use one otherwise where can I purchase? TY
You don’t have to wait! Train right away once they’re weaned off formula. BirdTricks sells clickers on their website unfortunately I’m all out at the moment. Good luck!!
I’m new to the bird world I am getting my Green Cheek Conure in a few weeks I’m so excited been doing a lot of research and watching a ton of videos to learn as much as I can thank you for the video and I would love to get a clicker if you can let me know where . Thanks again
Fantastic video. Thank you. Been putting off clicker training for waaay too long - it’s extremely helpful and really encouraging to see the training process in action. Kudos. Thanks again.
Thanks for the tip about holding the treat above the head if the bird is biting when stepping up. My almost 18 year old sun Conure does this when I ask her to step up from a perch. I will have to try to see if it works.
I appreciate your content and love the channel! I have an 8 month old, female, sun conure who is a little sweetheart. She spends a lot of time out of her cage and is usually with me most of her day. I've taught her to wave, spin both directions, flip, hop to my hand and back to her perch. We're coming along really well with her harness training, too. She has the veg mix diet with pellets and we keep fruit to minimum and save millet and walnuts for her training. I have no intention to clip her wings but sadly she to came into my home 3 months ago with her wings clipped quite short. I hate to see a parrot with stubby, short wings. My question: Have you noticed much personality/temperament change as SCs mature? If yes, what should I watch for in the next year or two as my little 'Katie' grows up? I volunteer at a local parrot rescue where the women have told me stories of umbrella cockatoos and other parrots can change a great deal. Little Katie is my first sunny so your thoughts would be valuable.🦜💛🧡💚
Love the video and I also have a Mango. He is 6 months, and all he learned so far is High 5 and touch the end of the stick THAT'S IT LOL. Its hard to train Mango because he doesnt like treats nor fruits nor veggies...ufffff which bird doesn't like treats? MINE OF COURSE. He is still a little afraid of me and others, however he is much better with me if he is away from his cage. Questions, how long it takes them to learn a new trick? and where did you got that LOVE TREE stand?
My birds didn’t “like” any of that until I changed their diet!! It took me 2 days of offering NO seed and providing the chop and pellets 24/7 for them to switch over and give it a try. You have to try going cold turkey NO seed for them to eat healthier. Try target training, the engagement will likely interest your bird and change of pace. The behavior around his cage is likely territorial and mine are also better away from the cages! New tricks can be formed in a few minutes and perfected over a few days. Train for just a few minutes! Not half an hour. They’ll engage better, and always end on a positive note!
We found our stands on marketplace lol but our local bird store has tons of them (Everything Birds in Oldsmar FL) I think you can order parrot safe perches off amazon also. Be sure to research SAFE wood types! Acidic woods can be toxic for them.
Hello!! I also have a sun conure named mango so that made me giggle lol. My mango is 3 months old and Now that he’s comfortable with me I am definitely looking forward to training him. I find this video very helpful but how can I get my hands on one of these clickers? Seems very useful thank you for the valuable info!
I have two conures, a pineapple named Pyro and a turquoise yellow sided named Greasy! I live in Texas too and watching your videos makes all three of us want to learn more!
like your videos where can you get a clicker I have a sun conur who is extremely smart and am trying to learn how to teach him/her?? some simple tricks as this teaching tricks is new to me
I just got my sun conure about 3 weeks ago. He is 3 months old. I have traid him for step up. He step ups when he sees the treat or when he wants me to take him somewhere. I am using sun flowerseeds as treats he likes em. Any tips on how I improve him in tricks? He does use his beak to setup too. Sometime he does not. lmk thanks
You and your birds did great. Mango just know’s to look good, no tricks needed 😂. Yuki my Meyers parrot ( an only bird child) see’s our target stick, clicker and goes quite crazy as it’s the only time she gets her favourite treats, nut’s, ooh and the dreaded sunflower seeds, in very small amounts of course. I have to really hide the target stick, or she’ll grab it and think she’s done a wonderful job, and where’s my treat. Touch training very useful for lot’s of reasons, Birdtricks taught me well. I taught Yuki to wave, did the one foot step like you first, then slowly put a little more distance between my finger and her, and said “wave” everytime, holding treat in front of her so she looked at treat while she raised her foot, then hit the clicker quick, and she got treat. Yuki doesn’t know ‘high five’ though. 😉. Thankyou for sharing, thoroughly enjoyed seeing your beautiful birds. Take care.
Hi I just recently adopted a sun conure and i would like to get training started because he’s already comfortable enough with me, do you have any clickers left by any chance ?
I got my green cheeks to say hi by slightly waving the chopstick at her feet and when she would try to grab it with her foot she got the click on the treat. So it wasn't too long before. I just waved the chopstick in the air and she picked up her foot and now I can do it with my finger. This is before she was target trained so she wouldn't try to bite the target stick
Hi there I just got two Sun Conure Parrot and your video it’s very helpful. I was wondering if you have any more clickers ? I would love to start training my as well.
What is the clicker that you are using .. i was trying to find one but have no idea lol i have a sun conure named Marley so the video you showed of your friend made me laugh lol
My clickers are from Birdtricks! Email me your address if you’d like one I have a few left! Bestflockingfriends@gmail.com and I’ll tell her 🤣 thanks for watching!
Thanks yes I’ve stated this before and I do it sometimes :) it is helpful, I just enjoy having them both with me. The other winds up screaming from the back and it’s distracting for my video purposes.
The food is called a chop, it’s made out of all kinds of vegetables and bird pellets, and tye device is called a clicker. It helps with training because when the bird hears the click it knows it’s because it did the right thing, when you out the stick and the clicker is allows a Target/Reward type of training
I can mail you one if you’ll email me your address! Or you can buy off Birdtricks website! Our birds eat a vegetable/grain/legume “chop” mix, you can make your own or buy freeze dried! Pellets come in all forms, we recommend cold-pressed pellets by BirdTricks or Tops because they’re not heated and maintain more of their nutritional value! The clicker is used for training and helps build a relationship with your parrot! It’s used as a tool for understanding and teaching tricks etc :)
I have thought my Kiki Jonny to step up and round. But this week I am starting klicker. My Jonny is same like mango. Sorry I did not got the other ones name but she is same like our Kiki. Today Kiki sneaked out of her netting room and was in a neighbours tree. She did not come down at all. Finally had to climb a tree after 35 years and caught her. So I wan thinking to train her with klicker to come over to us when she flies out by mistake.
I just got my baby skittles and iam looking forward to training him so I would be more than happy to get one of those clickers from you 😁 pls and thank you
you're sun conures are the cutest!! how old are they? also, if you can, would you mind sending me one of the clickers? I've been wanting to train my African grey how to turn around and I've tried literally everything.
They appear to be similar in size and attributes however Sun Conures are much louder and their coloring is very different. My suns do not talk, well unless you count Peach whispering a sound that sounds like his name (“peach peach”) however I know Jamie with BT has a sun that will say “baby” and my friend Elizabeth has a sun who can say “touchdown”. 😂
Your bird is so pretty how to you train your bird I m but to getting birth soon it’s hard to train the bird how old them your sun conure ?? Can you lots me know

Omg please tell me where to get a clicker I have a sun conure also and I can’t find that one anywhere and he’s young so I’d like to get to training him immediately
why does your vet not like you using millet as a training treat? like i understand why seed diets are bad, but it seems like a favorite among birders as a training reward, because so many birds love it...
I’m sure that’s the principle of her reasoning - that seeds are high fat. I didn’t have a long conversation with her about it because we don’t always see eye to eye due to my relationship with birdtricks and support of their diet and lifestyle habits.
@@bestflockingfriends ..wh.. whaaaatt? "i don't approve of you trying to do the very best for your pets!" is an awfully hot take for a vet to have... xD
