I loved ICEHOUSE! Another great Aussie band. While they did not get the attention that INXS received, they made some really good albums and songs. Ira Davies, lead singer is a really good singer & writer, as was the band. And one of the most PERFECT mullets. They were really big in Australia but only garnered moderate status in the United States with the one album MAN OF COLOURS that had this song and "Electric Blue" as hits and on MTV rotation. I had a number of their albums and songs like "Great Southern Land" are excellent. But they never did as well as they should have in the United States but seemingly faired better in other countries. Same as the band A-Ha. They had a huge hit in the United States with the song, "Take on Me" and didn't do much after but around the world they were huge and still are to this day.
Icehouse is one of my favorite bands. I own their entire playlist. I would highly suggest "Don't Believe Anymore" for some amazing sax. "No Promises" "Trojan Blue" "Icehouse" and the best, "Not my Kind" which for some reason never gets reacted to but it is awesome!
To answer your question: How did Icehouse rank with its peers in the 80's? Icehouse, imho, who was a teen in the 80's, they were a 3-4 hit wonder, who were/are well known and loved, but have many other artists more successful than them. Electric Blue is the main song to stand the test of time as far as radio play and liked by future generations. I'd say they were on the B list for the amount of popularity and amount of success. That's not a bad ranking, bc there's great artists that are on my C and D list of popularity and success, but are still considered great. They just have a small catalog compared to other synth pop/new wave 80's. The "A" list, imo, would be like Duran Duran, Men at Work, The Cars, The Cure, Talking Heads, Tears For Fears, Eurythmics, Cyndi Lauper, INXS, Howard Jones, The Smiths, Wang Chung---among many others. "B" list is like Icehouse, Oingo Boingo, A-Ha, Big Country, When In Rome, Culture Club....many more. "B" artists with 1-4 good hits. "C" and "D" are a bunch of great 1 hit wonders ranking from decent to great, but not as big/great as A-Ha's 1-hit Take On Me. Others may disagree, but that's my assessment.
Icehouse, Pseudo Echo, Real Life, The Venetians and Beargarden are all great 80s bands that were much more popular in Australia than they were in the U.S.
Guys how come the audio quality has gotten so poor lately? It's like you changed something. I listen back to your older videos like INXS' New Sensation and the mix was perfect between the video and your microphone volume. Lately all the songs sound thin and distant

They are too good😭
Love this song🎉
Merry Christmas guys
Try their song, 'No Promises.'
Touch The Fire is their best song. More pop/rock too
The beginning of the video is a play on the Clint Eastwood movie " play misty for me". Highly recommend the movie
“Cross the Border” is their hardest hitting New Wave hit, deeper/darker, less pop banger
The sound of the 80s FOR REAL

So good!!
Nice reaction. You guys need to react to "Still of the Night" by Whitesnake. It's a killer rock song, and it one of their best songs 💎

I’ve you’ve seen the Clint Eastwood movie “Play Misty For Me” you’ll understand this video.
Keytars are both cheesy and cool. A must have in many 80s tunes.
