- Love tofu and love chicken? Then this Braised Tofu with Chicken (you can also call it Chicken Tofu Pot) is a dish you want to try and cook for your family. Remember to cook a pot of rice to go with this super yummy recipe.

Ingredients:
Serves 4 pax
Marinated chicken
-------------
330g of chicken breast meat
2 tablespoons of light soy sauce
1 teaspoon of sesame oil
3 teaspoons of cornflour
A few dashes of white pepper
Marinated mushrooms
-------------
7 - 8 pieces of dried Chinese mushrooms (rehydrate with 1 cup of water - keep this soaking liquid for later use)
1 teaspoon of sugar
1 tablespoons of light soy sauce
1 teaspoon of sesame oil
Other ingredients
-------------
420g [or 8 pieces] of firm beancurd (tofu) (tao gua)
10g of chopped ginger
4 cloves of chopped garlic
1 red onion (cut into chunks)
2 red chilli (deseeded & sliced)
30g of dried shrimp (soak in 1 cup of water - keep the soaking liquid for later use)
180g of thinly sliced carrots
1 stalk of chopped spring onion
3 tablespoons of oyster sauce
2 tablespoons of dark soy sauce
1 teaspoon of sugar
1/2 cup of water
1 cup of mushroom soaking liquid (see above)
1 cup of dried shrimp soaking liquid (see above)
Some cornstarch solution
1 tablespoon of Chinese cooking wine (Shaoxing Huatiao wine)

I didn't have fresh mushrooms so I substituted with canned button variety. Used mirin instead of sugar and the dish turned out very flavourful. With less liquid I didn't need to add salt or thickener. What a great recipe, many thanks! 😊

Delicious! I didn’t have dried mushroom, instead I used fresh mushrooms and skipped the dried shrimps (since my son doesn’t like seafood). It still came out tasty and very good!

@@spicenpans We all love going to Chinese restaurants and eating Chinese foods. However, a lot of the diners never get past the Chop suey, Chow Mein and the basic sweet and sour dishes. Hi Anna. 您的中文里厉害了。可以的。没问题。蚝油只要开了之后放在冰箱里就没事。在用之前只要查看蚝油有没有发霉。只要没有发霉就可以使用。

Can i put mushroom in can intead of dried mushroom ? And is it ok if i fried also the chicken?
Why is the chicken not brown with tofu or separately before placing in pot??
Hi Fern. You may have noticed that we’ve marinated the chicken with some cornflour. The purpose of it is to tenderise the chicken. If you pan fry the chicken, the cornflour may cause the chicken to stick to the pan and get burnt. Hope this explains. Happy cooking!
