      @@panzer2146 They're not "penalties".
You don't even know what a "penalty kick" is.
A penalty kick is when you place the ball on the penalty spot and the kicker has to score with a single touch of the ball while the goalkeeper will have to dive to make a save without leaving the goal line. That is why in the current format, they call it a "penalty shootout". Because it is a shootout performed through a series of penalty kicks.

At least shootouts require more skill and seem more fair to me, the shooter only has 3 touches and 5 seconds to make the shot while the keeper is rushing at you. Even world class strikers would miss more shootouts than they miss penalty kicks. Traditional pk's are like 50% guessing, 30% goalkeeping and 20% good shooting.

You really know nothing about football if you think penalties are all about luck. Let an amateur take some penalties against a professional goalie and watch him save every single shot. Why would that be an inception of the penalty kick? It's called a shootout. The normal penalty shootout that you seen in europe is called "penalty shootout" because the shootout is done in penalty kick format. What you're seeing here in the video is just a shootout, not a penalty shootout. Therefore, there's a penalty kick in a shootout. Which is fair.

I don’t understand why people are shitting on this idea. Football is about agility, ability to dribble, and precision of a shot. This style of shootout incorporates all those aspects of football, while also giving the keeper the chance to display his goalkeeping skills; being a goalkeeper means more than just standing in place and diving in a direction. This style makes it so the more skillful player succeeds, rather than leaving it up to chance as 90% of penalties involve the keeper trying to GUESS where to dive and hoping that the ball is going in his direction of the dive. It also makes the penalties more exciting to watch. Everyone making fun of this for being a dumb American idea only dismiss it because it is an American idea and don’t want to admit that, for once, the U.S. came up with a good idea for football.
