that is how premix soda systems work. premix was used in areas where the local tap water was too poor to be cleaned up with filters for postmix, but nowadays restaurants in those areas serve bottled or canned drinks instead. pepsi and coke have discontinued premix in north america, but i've heard it is still being used in europe.

there are. but they did not show these and they are usually in a back room or a basement somewhere.
either tall stainless steel cylinders with a black handle / tip-over guard as the old way, but now they use what is called a "Bag in a box" design" kind of like the large boxes of wine you buy for parties. basically a box with a plastic bladder inside to hold all the molasses like syrup.

  • @imaloserdude7227
    @imaloserdude7227 6 лет назад +7

As I was reviewing a restaurant, I was curious as to what was in a soda. I knew that there was a sugary syrup, and water, but how about those bubbles? Well, this short video explained it all to me with the help of video and animation, and words that I could understand.
So, I walk up to a soda dispenser at my favorite restaurant (Taco Bell) with a paper and wax cup in my hand. I expect a certain sweet flavor. I expect bubbles. When I get both in the perfect combination, I drink the soda.
The syrup is just a bunch of sugar and a company’s secret recipe for their soda. The Mountain Dew that I prefer contains high fructose corn syrup, concentrated orange juice and other natural flavors, citric acid, sodium benzoate (preserves fresh-ness), caffeine, sodium citrate, gum arabic, erythorbic acid (preserves freshness), calcium disodium EDTA (to protect fla-vor) and brominated vegetable oil, and yellow 5. I know this, not because Taco Bell tells me, but because I just looked it up.
My soda also contains carbonated water. How does it this machine create that carbonated water? Well, water is a liquid, a mixture of two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen (H2O). Carbon dioxide is a gas, a mixture of one part carbon and two parts oxygen (CO2). These two are not compatible. Inside the soda fountain is a tank. Water is pumped in and carbon diox-ide is pumped in. When their molecules meet, they don’t mix. In fact, each carbon dioxide molecule just hangs out and lets the water molecules surround it. It doesn’t attack the water molecules or try to combine with them to form a new sub-stance. Each carbon dioxide molecule just sits in there, wait-ing. And when the machine spurts out the carbonated water into your paper or plastic cup (mixed with syrup, of course), these gassy carbon dioxide bubbles finally find a way to escape.
When you look into a cup and notice tiny bubbles rising from inside and popping on the surface, what you’re seeing, hearing (and smelling if you get close enough) are the carbon dioxide bubbles escaping. In a typical glass of soda, there is a full glass of water (and syrup), and five full glasses of gas (car-bon dioxide).
A final question. Where does that carbon dioxide go if you drink the soda? I looked this up online too (though I kinda new the answer). The gas goes right back out of your stomach, up your esophagus, and out your mouth in a belch (or burp). Some might go out the other end a few hours later, along with the gasses produced from the food you eat (like that magical and fruity food we call beans).
Now I know how a soda machine works.

Are you kidding? It is not even scientifically correct! Carbonic acid is dissolving in water - not CO2. However as carbonic acid is unstable, CO2 is formed, as soon as it is out of pressure. Oh - wow - I did it: I explained the whole science behind it in a 10th of the time, this dork did. But I got it right...

    • @abrothman

not really, the syrup to water ratio is adjusted at the dispensing valves located on the front of the fountain dispenser. the regulators on the co2 tank set the carbonator pressure about 100psi, and the syrup pump pressure about 40psi.some systems conserve co2 by using a separate air compressor to drive the syrup pumps so all of the co2 goes into the carbonator.

I dont get why they blurred out the obvious coca-cola sign in the soda fountain but left the coca-cola symbols unblurred on the cups...

Maybe they realize how prevalent the 'name' is. Maybe the 'blocker' is a man of principles. Maybe the man is just a man. But, with god as his witness, he will not contribute to the commercialized imprisonment of society.

    This documentary is a lie.
you don't need lots of pressure to force the water to carbonate.
If you chill the water before mixing in co2 it will carbonate.
If what i said wasn't true you wouldn't be able to carbonate water with just a keg filled with water and a tank of co2.
All the carbonator does is agitate the water so you don't have to sit there mixing the water back and forth.
You could easily carbonate water on the fly if you wanted to, using an inline static mixer.
    *edit*
Just to clarify. water doesn't mix well with co2 at room temperature.
if you want to carbonate all you need is cold water and co2. The pressure from the co2 alone can help carbonate the water it just needs to be agitated.
