The recruiters are supposed to pre screen you for the IST before you ship out. They did in my son's case 2 months ago. They test you in receiving to make sure the recruiters didn't fudge your records. Basically, receiving phase is a moreintense version of going to MEPS to make sure the guy your recruiters saythey are sending is the same guy on the yellow footprints.I must say that the poolee program they have these days is much betterthen the one I went through. I enlisted in June 1985 after my Junior year of High School and got a ship date in June 1986 after graduation.Over that year, I attended about 3 or 4 Saturday events. I just didn'twant to deal with the Marines until it was staring me in the face.I was physically active, but didn't arrive in boot camp in the very best of shape.I wasn't a fat body and never got dropped during training, but I passed the IST bythe bare minimum and got killed during the runs. It wasn't till third phase that Ifelt comfortable during the running. My son on the other hand enlisted in February and shipped in April. He spent every day Monday through Friday, working out and ran at least 3 ISTs andCFT with his fellow poolies under the watch of an Infantry Marine recruiter.Every letter I have gotten from him say he is doing fine. I can't wait tosee him June 30th.
@@moseisleyblues8492 I mean they wont send you home after that lol they will just have you workout separatelynwith people like you. So it makes sense to shave their head if they are in bootcamp 😂
For one these are the minimal requirements. Just to start training.. Two.. Try doing this with minimal sleep and the constant stress on your body day in day out.
1.5 miles in 12 mins thats bad, when i joined the British army i could do it in 10 mins by the end of training i was at 9 mins 5 seconds and thats after doing min 55 press ups in 60 secs and min 55 full sit ups in one min and 1.5 mile warm up.
if you done cross country in high school that would help so much I could only do 1 mm ile run now I can do 3 miles in 22 mins in just 4 weeks of cross!!!!
Well my son just left Monday June 19th 2017, I miss him so bad, but "I Love Him Enough To Let Him Go" and it's like everyone keeps telling me no news is good news. I know he will do this and he will make it. Everyone that had PT with him here in Tenn. said that he was great, and that he would make it thru this. So I'm just praying that he does.
My high school gym class needs a mile in 8 minutes, 50 crunches, and 5 pull - ups min. If I calculate the mile time for the USMC, we need 9 min / mile. Additionally, it is 9 min and a little bit / mile for the 3 mile pft run. I am going to join the marines. I have to start working out. I am weak as hell in running. Like 13 Min 21 Sec. That's bad.

When I entered we had 72 in our platoon by the end of the first day we lost 20 to fat camp, extra physical training squad or released. When I graduated in August of 69 there were only 29 of us, I entered when I was 16 years old. The statement “EARNED NEVER GIVEN” couldn’t be more accurate, at 69 I’m still a Marine!
I'm shipping Aug.19th. to Parris island. 90 crunches 5 pull ups 13:09 run (my best run time) I'm really trying to get under 13:30. My last 1.5 mile was 15:45 (6 weeks ago). Hopefully my running and drinking a gallon and half daily will show in my own self IST on Saturday! Anyways, Good luck!

So I know they are timed on it but doing half ass reps with bad form will not help you get stronger... ik they will definitely learn how to properly do it because this is only the beginning but still it was so cringey watching them not situp or pullup properly..
You don't know how weak and out of shape people are, plus this is just to get into boot camp, watch a boot camp video to see what the actually have to do
there was one kid i knew that got held back for not being able to do 3 fucking pull ups lmfao! You want to make it easier on yourself so it's one less thing you need to worry about? Then you should be well past the Final pst standards, not the IST standards when you get there. Believe me your life will be so much easier when you have to run the obstacle and confidence courses. You don' want to be that recruit struggling with getting up over the pull-up bars, and rope climbs. You'll still get screamed at, maybe for a few seconds as you do it, but it's better than a few minutes while you're struggling to get up and over. Also learn how to climb a rope before you get there. Remember be in the best shape you can be before you go. Life will be easier for you. You're still going to get smoked, but you'll make it because of your preparation.
I’m super late but nah. Pull Ups are much harder exercises since you’re pulling 100% of your body weight compared to push ups, you’re pushing 50%-60% of your body weight that’s why you’re expected to reach higher than 30 reps or more when it comes to basic calisthenics.
+Jesusmetalhead Most in the navy and marine corps understand that crunches are a bad exercise and can actually cause lower back problems. The reason why they still use them though is to create a standard that is easy to test.
+Jesusmetalhead They're useful for combat maneuvers, ducking down, getting up quickly from a back laying position, etc., the abdominal muscles are also used when walking with heavy gear to help maintain balance. Everything you do in there has a definite use and purpose, no matter what you may think of it.
To test your Core’s endurance. The PT tests are to test your muscle endurance and to see if you can run. In the Army we do sit ups instead. I guess the marines want to be different lol
I agree. The only thing crunches helps you with or makes you good at is doing crunches. Hanging leg raises on the other hand, best core exercise there is imo.
I'm 14 about to turn 15 in a month. I can do 50 sit ups in 1min 30 still working with my upper body strength so I can do around 15+ push ups and maybe 1 pull up if i'm lucky and I can run a mile in 10min. Is this a good start?
+Johnny Frost Quick question do you have to take this before ever setting foot on Paris island? and what if you pass sit ups and pull ups but you lag it on the run do they send your ass home ..... I have no stamina
+Gustavo Camarena Well, your IST determines when you start your boot camp. If you smash that shit at poolee functions and you come to boot and can't do the IST you just wait around for a few days until you pass the IST then you start. You won't be sent home unless for a medical reason.
+Johnny Frost THANK GOD lol I was shifting my self scared I still have time tho and I have been running like crazy but there are times I feel I just won't cut it I will still keep at it thanks .... btw any tips or pointers I fruely want to give it my all it's been a dream of mine to be a marine (not trying to Brown nose)
wow these standards are not as high as I thought. The Maine state police standards are 40 sit ups in 1 minute and 1.5 miles in 11:58. The marines only do 33 sit ups in 2 minutes?
+brandon anctil these are initial test... you have to be able to do those "standards" before you can start recruit training. They are not the PFT standards. PFT is more demanding. and lets not get started on the CFT.
I have been training for the Potential Royal Marine Officer Course and this looks like cake compared to that and I dont know why. I was expecting the same top quality shit from our closest allies but I thwn find out to get in, all you need to do is 2 measley pull ups (not to a bleep nor shoulders over the bar for about 3 seconds) and 30 sit ups that they all did like a inch of the ground... and why on earth did they change the standards for women??? It should be exactly the same so no one gets hurt because a woman got let off easy and it ensures only the best women get in just like the men. I know most of you would say "its just the initial training" but this is what I expect from the british infantry. Not the USMC.
HiddenAssassin32 A. That’s because you are in officer training and this isn’t even technically the beginning of basic training and B. It’s only the IST so it only gets worse from here
To all Marines in the comments I share your sorrow about the current physical entry "standards" your branch now has. In U.K us British troops are raging as our minimal 1.5 mile run time requirement for men is now 14:00 our one saving grace is during training Physical Training Instructors (PTI) can repeatedly back track recruits if they don't meet the level of physical fitness required. I hope this option (or something like it) is implemented into your branches recruitment program if not God help you all. Sincerely All armed forces around the world
+Bwenno The minimal requirement is 10:30 in the 1.5 mile run, 50 sit ups and 45 push ups. That's across the board for males in the Army. You also have to pass an 8 mile TAB every year. (British Army)
+Adam Goligher That's the standard we "prefer" for our male over 18's when they attend Phase 1 but the actual selection standards are as I have written above. I know its some big pile crap but this is why our ATC's have such high drop out and injury rates. Honestly I prefer that no one pass phase 1 than drop the standard that is expected for that recruit's desired regiment. I know for a fact senior soldiers will skip the TAB and write down whatever results they want its only really enforced in infantry and SF regiments (which pisses me off). Also to anyone thinking of joining the military who is worried about their Body Mass Index (how fat you are) I have seen some fat boys run in my time as long as you can squeeze into a plate carrier your good. Know that you are not in the military to become bodybuilders you're there to do your job to your physical best. (I am not involved in recruitment or training in the army I joined in 2012 so this is mostly from memory sorry if any of this is out of date or incorrect)
I'm literally just out of phase one, going into phase two on the third. Those were the tests we all had to pass, it may have been different back in the day but in the current training programme that's what they are. As for BMI we lost about 4 people on the first medical because of that, you are put straight into a different company to address that issue. The TAB isn't timed it is set at a 14 minute mile by the PTI and is a peice of piss.
I was almost held back because of my BMI (it is an archaic system btw) even though I was one of the fittest there. TAB is only important if you want to do Para, other SF, PTI training or you are up for promotion as your Fitness is reported to some such officer (mine for some reason was base 2ic) who chooses who gets the job or chance to do the training. Great to hear about your Phase 1 depending on your role and regiment Phase 2 is gonna be great or complete bollocks hope you do well though.
who gives a fuck as long as they can fuckn shoot. why does it matter how many pull ups u can do. in fuckn combat pullups are not gonna save your life its weather you can shoot. your enemy

@@j.manning2759 okay, I can run 1.5 miles in 10 min, is that good. I still have 2 years to make my time better. I run around this trail 3 times and it's .57 miles long.
Trial Training is for recruits who have been fucking up a lot and are giving a period of 10 days by the Senior DI to redeem themselves or get dropped while PCP is a Platoon where recruits are sent if they failed PT events.
bro I cant do any either doesn't mean ima give u. just lower your weigh and then lift your body weigh and you'll see. I weigh 225 and I'm only 14 but doesn't mean ima give up.
+knife Lol bro the IST is just to see who's getting dropped out of training the 1st day... a perfect IST score is 20 pullups, 100 crunches in 2 mins and 9:00 1.5mile, that's where u want to be BEFORE GOING to training unless you want to have a hard time. For a PFT is 3Miles in 18Mins, now unless you can do that you have no right to talk shit. The purpose of this is to see if they have the Minimum strength required to do the tasks if you decide to go to Basic with minimum requirements, you'll probably be the guy claiming some BS just to go back home...
Jon Rodriguez I can actually do the pullups and the crunches, my 1.5 miler time is 9.31 though. And no the min score for a pft is 28 min . All im saying is they could have higher phys standards as even a pretty unfit person could get through.
hey brotha , new sub for ya here , i am a u.s. marine vet here 93' to 97' active ! , only have email here , would love to talk more , thanks n talk soon > tom !
marine 44 crunches in 2 mins, british army 55 full sit ups in 1 min minimum, Marine 1.5 miles in under 13 mins 30 secs, British army 1.5 miles in under 10 mins 30 secs. lmfao i would have never gotten passed selection with that.
You do realize this is the bare minimum just to get into boot camp right? The standards for the actual Physical Fitness Test (PFT) are higher. One of the Pooles from my recruiting station went to boot camp with the bare minimum of a 13:29 1.5 mile run..... He left Parris Island being able to run a 19 minute 3 mile. The standards are pretty low just to get in though. I'll admit that lol.
Amaethon Jones Haha I bet you do. I was using it as an example of how weaker recruits improve through just 3 months of boot camp and become physically fit United States Marines.
Waggish Lag You wanna hope for your sake they do 'improve' because I would have said their services were not required straight from the start. I thought you already had to be in good physical shape to join the US Marines?
The standards are a relic of the old days when women were bared from combat duty.In the 80's,women were restricted to administrative and support positions. While men in those units were expected to maintain the same physical standardsas males in combat units under the belief that all (male) Marines are Riflemen first, the Corps paid lip service to that regarding women.Women simply were never expected to have physically demanding duty so they were given the minimum standard possible.A few years ago, the Corps tried to go with making women meet similar standardsas men but it turned out most of the women serving in the Corps wouldn't make thosestandards, so things were rolled back. The Corps is walking a tight rope in on one hand creating gender neutral standardsthat allow women full access career wise, to any opportunity in the Corps while notcreating a barrier to the majority of women serving who haven't been able to maintain the same standard as men.
If you can’t run a mile and a half without getting bad chest pains you probably wouldn’t be allowed to join anyway. That sounds indicative of a health condition.
Back in 69, there was a guy from Wisconsin who ran cross country and he ran 3 miles in 10 minutes. He was sent to mess duty for a week. He also couldn't shoot worth a damn but he still got his pizza box. He kept jerking the trigger so they put his index finger under the toilet seat knob and sat on it until his finger was tender so he wouldn't jerk the trigger.
So what branch of the service are you in? Bet you wouldn't be able to handle day one of Marine boot camp! And that's just getting off the bus on to the yellow footprints! Unless you've been there you have no idea what this is like :0)
+Ryan T Like someone else said, IST is like a warm up compared to basic. If you can only do 2 pull ups you're probably going to suffer a hell of a lot more than the other recruits
Don't fail!! If you are a right hander, make sure you use the right gun.. my uncle was beheaded for sitting up with a bird rifle! 3rd Uncle (Black Guy) it's only later they found he was a murderer hiding. Look at your application and get your drill sergeant fired now!! . When his Sargent yelled Duck! The soldiers didn't duck! My uncle shot him illegally. Supposed to duck!!! .
The Goon Platoon!!!!!!!!!
What happens if a recruit does not pass the pull up ist
They go to the fat platoon til they can get better
I leave in about 25 days, run is 12 mins, 70 crunches and 5-6 pullups, am i okay for the ist?
How did it go?
7?
PFT for females should be the same as for males.
Agreed
No one would pass
Tq
I'm 14 about to turn 15 in a month. I can do 50 sit ups in 1min 30 still working with my upper body strength so I can do around 15+ push ups and maybe 1 pull up if i'm lucky and I can run a mile in 10min. Is this a good start?
Ja Du Thank you for the feedback
+CosmicSilence keep working, I seen people in worst shape than that. You still got at least another 2 years
Tim Leonard Thank you for the support
If you can try lifting Dumbbells or if you don't have any like textbooks or something that helped me a lot
Rory Adams Thanks for the advice
How is it during the winter?
Old Camper probably 10x better honestly
I think its easy ( hold my beer )
after receiving you sleep then do the IST? or its with no sleep?
You head off to bed. Wake up. Eat chow then IST. Then boot camp officially starts.
Ok thanks
+alanflowers45 Gotcha. Figured something was off but wasnt sure what.
+alanflowers45 CFT's really not that bad. I can ace the CFT and get a 'meh' PFT. Different strengths, I guess.
+brandon anctil 100 crunches in under 2 minutes, 18min 3 mile run, 20 pullups.
+Scratch_That Productions combat fitness test
It’s only the IST so it only gets worse from here
Seems pretty easy...
Sincerely
All armed forces around the world
+Bwenno The minimal requirement is 10:30 in the 1.5 mile run, 50 sit ups and 45 push ups.
Great to hear about your Phase 1 depending on your role and regiment Phase 2 is gonna be great or complete bollocks hope you do well though.
who gives a fuck as long as they can fuckn shoot. why does it matter how many pull ups u can do. in fuckn combat pullups are not gonna save your life its weather you can shoot. your enemy
It was hard!!
Senior year and I'm at 73 push-ups in a min 62 sit-ups in a min 6:00 mile will I be okay?
no, you wont be OK
Eric B welp I guess 4 years of jrotc didn't prepare me
Eric B welp I guess 4 years of jrotc didn't prepare me
I'm fucking with you. It's just boot camp, you'll be ok
Eric B phew
Leaving in 27 days.
How is the Corp?
The Corps is the Corps. It has its good days and it’s bad days. Sentry duty sucks of course, but wouldn’t trade it for the world.
I finish my mile in a half in 10:09 I did bad tbh
I run a 6:06 mile so what would my 1.5 mile be?
jason laster like 9-10 mins
Kilo Coyote is that good?
jason laster Yea
jason laster I think the Navy Seals minimum 1.5 mile run time is 10.30.
WIMPS.
THE NAVYIS HARD
If you cant pass this......
And Justice For All lol ik my ship date is april 2 and my i can only do 4 CHIN UPS im good with the running last time.i did it got 11:20 1.5 and crunches around 79-83
3 pull ups
0:26 how big is that trail?
1.5 miles
@@j.manning2759 okay, I can run 1.5 miles in 10 min, is that good. I still have 2 years to make my time better. I run around this trail 3 times and it's .57 miles long.
@@poppa4178 yea if you can do it in 10 youre fine. I run mine im 10:08 and im leaving for Parris Island in 5 days
@@j.manning2759 okay and do you think I should study for the asvab and what should I use? Should I use the Asvab for dummies and good luck.
@@poppa4178 idk just use common sense its really not bad. I got an app on my phone and studied on and off but idk dont stress it
Wait a minute isn't the Run portion 12:30 for the minimum? I ran 13 minutes even which means I'm doing decent. What the fuck..
13:30 is the minimum :)
+VAMBRIC Fat camp? I'm fat from being fat. I just spent most of my time lifting and did cardio only after enlisting. But yeah its the same here.
Isaac Reaper Fat Camp AKA PCP
+Brian Perkins I'm far from being fat* oops. and Oh I see. So what's the difference between PCP and Trial Training?
Trial Training is for recruits who have been fucking up a lot and are giving a period of 10 days by the Senior DI to redeem themselves or get dropped while PCP is a Platoon where recruits are sent if they failed PT events.
Does the fucking yelling stop anytime?
Watching this makes me tired glad it's over lol
lol, those DIs running around while they were doing crunches were corny as fuck
Im tryina join but.. i cant do pull ups..
Koda zaddy you can choose between pull ups, chin ups or push ups.
bro I cant do any either doesn't mean ima give u. just lower your weigh and then lift your body weigh and you'll see.
I weigh 225 and I'm only 14 but doesn't mean ima give up.
why are the standards so low?
***** but surely a higher level of fitness would be achieved if they also recruited with higher standards?
***** 'most elite fighting force in the world' dont know id agree with that!, although it dosent really mean anything anyway.
***** thatlle be hard as id have to move countries, unless you know of one that lives down my road.
NTHW Scary British parachute regiment is 9.30-9.40. Still won't put me off though I've never been exactly super fit.
Waggish Lag 3 miles in 19 minutes isn't exactly hard. I run in 3 miles up hill in 19.10 on average but i wouldn't call myself fit or a good runner.
Why do women have more time ?
Cause there weaker then men
1:31 the guy second to the left looks like NavaTheBeast
Christian Camarena it might be him he did go through boot camp around this time
No? That's not him
What if you physically cannot go any longer and start getting chest pains and shit. They have to have a point where instructors give compassion
If you can’t run a mile and a half without getting bad chest pains you probably wouldn’t be allowed to join anyway. That sounds indicative of a health condition.
What the actual fuck!!!
Did the pt at home, got only 16 pull-ups, 115 crunches, and 11 min 3 mile run
Yea bullshit. You did not run 3 miles in 11 minutes.
11min 3mile are u Superman?
Back in 69, there was a guy from Wisconsin who ran cross country and he ran 3 miles in 10 minutes. He was sent to mess duty for a week. He also couldn't shoot worth a damn but he still got his pizza box. He kept jerking the trigger so they put his index finger under the toilet seat knob and sat on it until his finger was tender so he wouldn't jerk the trigger.
Marine corp push up
chin ups count as pullups? wtf?
I think you can do either
Yes. A Marine/Recruit can use chin ups, pull ups, a combination of the two and now pushups, during the pull up phase of the PFT.
lol those situps are bad
this shit easy
it should be all the same cross gender
Ez
2 pull ups lol really
wow... is that all? my middle school gym class was more demanding.
+lucas wanlass Remember, that is the BARE MINIMUM. If recruits are only doing the BARE MINIMUM, they will definitely suffer in Boot Camp.
You do realize this is before the training actually starts?
So what branch of the service are you in?
Bet you wouldn't be able to handle day one of Marine boot camp!
And that's just getting off the bus on to the yellow footprints!
Unless you've been there you have no idea what this is like :0)
+Dog Man Truth!
+lucas wanlass If you can't max the pft, you are kind of a laughing stock.
second
First
Minimum 2 pullups? Lmao what a joke
Not a sex crime, so he gets it quickly. I think his family that lives on base will be prisoned, and executed down a 6 years old. Don't fail!! Thank you for NOT FAILING !!!
.
Look at your application and get your drill sergeant fired now!!
.
When his Sargent yelled Duck! The soldiers didn't duck! My uncle shot him illegally. Supposed to duck!!!
.
True soldiers get Lasik, and glasses is given to child loosers. Read in? He's a petticoat for L pedophile..

So Merine is the toughest in hell!
Thank you.... Keep that Coat tho!
If your student don't open Their own shoot, then drop em so you don't get fired.. and come back home!!
